catching up on writeups, part 1:

Located in the mountains of northern Thailand, everything I've heard about Chiang Mai is that it's just awesome and charming and gorgeous. Basically you visit there and you don't ever want to leave.

I plan to spend my time relaxing, visiting cool sights, seeing beautiful scenery, and eating amazing food.

Some pictures of those things:

Spoiler:

I was really hoping to snag Chiang Mai and I'm super-glad I did. This hypothetical vacation so far is absolutely ****ing ridiculous.

I'm off to Sri Lanka. It seems to have it all. Mountains, beaches, waterfalls, forests, highlands plains, caves, coves, valleys, fortresses, temples, ruins, and even ancient kingdoms. Being an island it has its own identity and isn't like any other place. It has its own culture, traditions, food and experiences to be had. Here are some pictures of what I might see, do or eat there:

plus so many more things...

So after some brief consideration, & a look at a map, I've decided to head quite west.

I shall go to DUBAI.

Here is a write-up I previously did on one small portion of the area:

Spoiler:
Palm Jumeirah

I appreciate the tip on this amazing planned artificial archipelago.

Palm Jumeirah is the world’s largest man-made island and is comprised of a two kilometer long trunk, a crown made up of 17 fronds and a surrounding crescent.

The Dubai Palm Tree design was created to help solve the beach shortage that stood to interfere with the Emirate's plans for dynamic economic and real estate growth. The ruler of Dubai sketched a palm tree recognizing that its many fronds would provide much more usable waterfront than the usual circular island.

As you can see...

Some assorted pictures:

Following a number of years of feasibility studies, the Palm Jumeirah was launched in 2001, with reclamation starting in the same year. From the end of 2006, the island's first residences – comprising 4,000 luxury villas and apartments were handed over during a phased period. Since then, the tourism, leisure and retail elements of the island have been developed, creating a spectacular, world-renowned residential and tourism destination.

There are at least 17 luxury hotels/residence complexes located here, and the views are breathtaking.

Here's a map:

Atlantis Hotel:

Which adds another great aquarium to my city:

& a world class waterpark called "Aquaventure":

You can swim with the dolphins while you're there (& be like Mischa Barton):

Here's a YouTube video:

The Fairmont:

The Kempinski:

The Oceana:

Which happens to boast an infinity pool:

The One & Only:

How do you get around to all of these places? All the normal options, plus our state of the art monorail system:

The Rixos:

The Kingdom of Sheba:

& the Waldorf Astoria:

There are numerous fine dining restaurants and everything needed to keep this island paradise running. This will be a breathtaking and useful addition off the coast of what used to be San Diego.

Other than that, there are crazy skyline views, including, but not limited to, the views of & from Burj Khalifa:

Spoiler:

There's the world's largest mall, with a 7D (whatever that is) holographic show:

& a big azz aquarium:

Spoiler:

There's also a cool fountain experience:

Spoiler:

& of course, like any JM3 vacation spot, there has to be beaches:

Spoiler:

& sunsets...

Spoiler:

JM3 trip so far:
Las Vegas - 115.1398° W
San Diego - 117.1611° W
Bora Bora - 151.7415° W
Maui - 156.3319° W
Samoa - 172.1046° W
Taipei - 121.9189° E
Krabi Province - 98.9063° E
Dubai - 55.2708° E

What are people's thoughts on re-randomizing the order for rounds 9-16? (and then again for 17-24)

It's fine with me, but I think we should finalize that (and post the order) before round 8 begins, so that round 8 pickers know when they will choose again.

I have a slight preference to keep it the way it is but don't feel strongly one way or the other

I am not bothered in the slightest about re-randing or not

whatever people want or feel stronger about.

I have been to:

LA
Fiji
NZ North
NZ South
Sydney
Hong Kong
Singapore
Dubai
Helsinki

I think if you're going to re-rand it should be after the 8th round of picks so people specifically have no clue what the order will be next.

Doesn't matter to me, though.
