IS that a paid ad or something. Looks like an ad for the pro state I-gaming crowd warning about the federal effort to regulate online gaming and is calling an alert for states rights and too contact state legislators. Wonder who is putting out this alert/advertisement or whatever it is

So regardless of what happens at the federal level, which just doesn't look good at all right now, Nevada will still be moving forward with online poker yes? What is the next step in regards to that?

from the article

"By and large, state lotteries are opposed to a federal online poker scheme and American Indian tribes have also recently voiced concern."

Are these clowns ******ed??? They are worried with legalized online poker their precious lottery revenues will go down. LOL. The gov of Maryland is against federal online poker because of that nonsense argument. Hey morons, did you notice a increase in lottery revenues after black friday?

Why is everyone suddenly thinking the federal chances just went away? Seriously I'm confused at this. They are probably the best they have ever been.

I am generally the optimistic type but this is the feeling i got as well. Especially when reading stuff like this

“Airdropping this into the payroll bill wouldn’t sit well with a whole bunch of people from a process standpoint,” a source familiar with the discussions said, pointing to the current brouhaha unfolding in the Senate over an attempt to fast-track cyber security legislation.
I mean there is always going to be someone who it is not going to sit well with and I can't imagine passing this as a stand alone bill in an election year to be a walk in the park. I almost want the intrastate movement to explode this year and create a big mess ... just out of spite, but then that's probably the hate in me talking.

Sen max baucus says "good announcement" on payroll deal coming in a few minutes
Well - at least we'll be able to see what it entails soon.

I think the next real sweat will be Lesniak passing his NJ igaming bill. A tweet from a reliable source in the past on these matters was told by Lesniak that the plan was to put the bill on Christies desk, and that Christie would sign it.

I think this is important because it will light a fire under the asses of the feds that either you do something now or it will be autonomous state by state igaming for the foreseeable future. Then we will see how much sway the lottery idiots have in Congress.

Baucus has officially announced a deal on the payroll tax. Shame too because it's almost midnight and would have been a nice Cinderella story for ipoker to have been attached right at this moment.

Thanks for keeping us posted. Still sounds like things are churning. I'm going to keep my hopes up for a while.

On a side note I'm hoping this kind of talk makes GBT move faster in acquiring FTP. I gotta think the software and patents will be worth more if a federal bill passes.

Good catch. They are obviously an institution that is pro-state and anti federal regulation when it comes to gambling. They will print biased articles to dissuade those who want federal regulation from fighting.

Guys we have a lot to be hopeful for. If a serious letter campaign...and I mean SERIOUS...was put on by poker players I think this thing can quickly pass this year.

It looks more like a paid advertisement considering it's placed in that long box thingy on the side along with other advertisements. I don't we can say the site is biased just for having it on there site although i suppose its possible. I just noticed it and its the first one i can remember seeing.

I expect we'll see many more ads like this. After the DOJ letter many interests will pushing for a state-by state approach some tribes, some casinos/card rooms, lotteries and others. Personally I don't care if its state-by state or federal at this point I think both avenues should be pushed but I feel a federal bill isn't very likely and it will be the states that win in the end. I'm just curious who put that advertisement up and what the end game is.

"And the three Republican senators on the conference committee — John Barrasso of Wyoming, Mike Crapo of Idaho and Jon Kyl of Arizona — had yet to sign on for several concerns with the deal, Republican and Democratic aides said. Republican officials said that those three senators had raised concerns about being largely cut out of the deal..."

In a bad way this makes sense. Maybe if Kyl had more leverage our bill would be in there.

Sorry to say I told you so but Reid is the biggest slime in congress. Don't place your dreams with him. Trust me he will disappoint you every time. He has no say in what goes on. None.

Sen. Ben Cardin, a Maryland Democrat who represents many federal workers in the Washington region, was withholding his support because of concerns that $15 billion would be raised by forcing government employees to pay more into their pensions.
