I was wondering more about this while at the gym, but shouldn't the fact that states are very soon going to take over this industry trump the fact that this is "not an ideal vehicle"? If they don't act soon they will not be in control, vehicles be damned.

Way too much pessimism in here. Even if it isn't attached to this bill there are still a lot of pieces falling into place for this happen eventually. I am hopeful.

You obviously talk to people we don't have access to. What's the deal?

funny how Karak is talking, but not saying anything. I am still thinking that the news might be good, but people are keeping it quiet.

If anything is going on then it "might" be bad if it gets out, right?

his post was overly dramatic and made it sound as if we're all quoting sources of our own, which is simply not true

Just to lay the facts out:
1) lottery lobbyist mentions it
2) GGB sends tweet saying NV Gov. told casinos Reid/Kyl reached deal to attach (btw, this doesn't imply it WOULD be attached, it implies Reid/Kyl agreed to try IMO)
3) Gov says not true on Twitter
4) Karak is hearing rumblings from people he trusts/would know info from D.C.
5) @writerjen and @pokerscar say they heard rumblings from lobbyists at some type of (gaming?) conference last week and "Will be a surprise (kinda) & fast."
6) PPA says a separate unemployment benefits bill could be vehicle
7) Sounds like Congress has agreed to pass tax cut, unemployment/medicare in ONE bill which nullifies #6, but poker could be attached in committee. If it were attached in committee, it would see a vote in Congress and could not be amended

everything else is simply speculation and the above are not clear-cut facts

If a contraception coverage amendment can be added to a transportation bill, poker is a slam dunk, amirite?

Reid says he’ll allow the Senate to vote on contraception coverage amendment [Las Vegas Sun]
...

“We have one on contraception, one on Egypt now. Who knows the end of this?” Reid said Tuesday.

Poker, Harry, poker!

Any idea where the people who told you got the info from?
Rumors have been flying around for a long time about a Reid/kyl agreement and that it's going to be attached to this or that bill. Could be "your people" heard it from an article or tweet from someone or a lobbyist who read this thread or one of the many other "Reid is going to attach it this time" threads. From what I can tell the same info just keeps getting recirculated again and again and it has sense this spring. This thing has taken on a life of its own

I hope there is going to be a Reid bill and he'll try and attach it but I'm not going to get excited until there's a little more to go on.

the christian right is too powerful and too many panderers for anything to get passed without them mouthing off. now if they get the casino ban they could be bragging about that and just leave out the online poker part. but yeah these people cant keep their mouth shut about anything. when something does get past, you will hear it from them first.

Eh.. to summarize:

1) Both Harry Reid and John Kyl are considering licensing and regulating online poker and actuallly putting some legitimate effort/political capital into it.

That's pretty cool.

"Leaders in the State of Georgia, on which the Tennessee Lottery is based, are taking stands against online gambling because of similar concerns," Raines said. "We will contact our federal and state legislators about these concerns."

No wonder the state of Georgia is like 48th in education, even our "leaders" are ignorant morons.

It's time for the PPA to make sure they have a strong push in each of these states to make sure the message is getting across to these "leaders" who are too ignorant to understand that online poker has been around for several years now without affecting lottery sales and will enhance their tax revenue and not hurt their silly lotteries.

I'm volunteering to do whatever I can in Georgia!
