You seem to misunderstand the $100M remark from the hearing. This was mentioned in regards to the California intrastate bill, as an example of how allowing legislation to be state-by-state rather than federal will create greater barriers to market entry for Indian tribes. In CA, the bill will require an upfront advance payment (against future revenue taxes, not as a licensing fee) to the state on the order of $100M for each licensee.

The smaller tribes can definitely be mollified by allowing them to either create consortia to run joint sites or running as skins on a network under a federal bill.

I just doubt the bill create reasonable access to all current purveyors of gaming in states that participate. This is America, the land of legislated monopolies. The two low rungs on the gaming totem pole are players and the Indian tribes. do you really anticipate Reid and Kyl are going to betray thirty plus years of support from the casino industry and pass something egalitarian?

What you are forgetting is that there are 20 some odd tribal gaming facilities in AZ, and they have been Kyl supporters.

Px, yes I misunderstood that part. I didn't watch the whole hearing, so no context.

There still will be, however, barriers to entry. software, license regulations, etc will not be cheap. Even just becoming a skin will be expensive.

As mentioned above, Kyl loves his Indians in Arizona.

I hope as many purveyors as possible are allowed. I don't think all tribes will be shafted, but the outlying, less capitalized ones will find themselves unable to pay their way in, IMO. I realize I'm an old artifact of the nineties, and Nevada regulators seemed not totally clueless, but my doubts stem from memories of how companies who buy regulation try to protect the gains they bribed to access.

Def agree with this.

We are all afraid of not knowing what the bill MIGHT look like IF it passes.

Everyone here, from left to right to as crazy as me, expects massive government and industry greed mixed with bureaucratic incompetence. Give us a little break for panic.........what else can we do?

yea the problem with poker is that players flock to other players, which makes even more people flock there. It has a lot less to do with price and almost everything to do with availability or perception of action

OK so is this week the best sweat we've ever had? I'm never sure how big or small news about US regulations is, but this seems like a big deal. In other words, is it reasonable to feel excited that some really good things COULD go down for us this week? I just never know how much hope to have...

Same here, except it is tequila instead of champagne, and I have decided to drink it even if there is no good news.

A repeat from what we have already heard. Anybody have a subscription?

Report: Reid, Kyl Make Internet Poker Deal; What About Tribes?

Quote:
Several sources have told GGB News that a phone call from Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval has informed top-level gaming execs that a deal has been reached to legalize online poker. But what about the role of tribes in this new industry? A Senate committee last week heard testimony.

Are tweets and Facebook messages good for this certain occasion? I feel like they are trying to attach online poker to this under the radar of everyone else and sending mass texts and fb messages would kinda be blowing up their spot... Just my opinion

Could be a controlled leak for an uptick in stock.
But it could be an insider tip being spread to some supporters or donors. If the second is the case I am surprised it leaked. I do hope this is the case however.

Good reporters are suppose to use reliable sources and then verify the info. Since a fee is being charged for this story, I would think the reporter is up to journalism standards. Also, if this is a false story leaked only to manipulate stock prices, I am guessing there would be severe legal ramifications.
