Thinking Republican concession on no need to pay for bill is baaaaad for us on payroll tax bill sounds like medicare and unemployment will be dealt with separately and a more likely vehicle if they have to pay for it

It could be sneaked in like the UIEGA bill was back in 2006.

this looks terrible on Reid/Dems if the Republican House says, "here's the extension and it's CLEAN" and then the Senate goes, "ahhh, f it we'll just attach poker"

it's Obama's election to lose...all he has to do is not lose, he doesn't have to win. Attaching online poker to a clean bill here would be putting a dagger in your own stomach IMO.

I'm going to use my one time. Remember, if your one time isn't granted then you still have your one time. Still, I'm pessimistic on the odds here, strangely enough. I'd put us around 20%-40%.

That said, if poker helped drive that switch there's reason for optimism for the rest of the year. Plenty of other things that need to be paid for and we only need to win once.

At the moment it is only house r's who support of a de-coupling of the payroll tax issue w. unemployment/medicare. The larger story is that the parties are still trying to reach a broader deal: the house r offer of a straight extension of payroll is an effort to paint d's in a bad light (i.e by making it seem like they are the ones standing in the way of the progress). It is clear that obama and at least the senate d's are still pushing for a deal on all issues.
Cliffs: as usual, this debate will go down to the last minute, and nothing will be decided until it is decided.

I doubt poker legislation will be the only trivial attachment attempted. Tactically, it sucks for our chances if an agreed bill is presented instead of reconciling conflicted ones. The Medicare fix or unemployment or the transportation bill are chances in the medium term, as well.

The House R's are trying to portray themselves in a positive light. By moving the payroll tax extension without payment, they aren't leaving themselves the option to paint Ds in bad light.

This. Reid and Dem's and most of the Senate seems to tackle all 3 issues at once. House R's are throwing a fit and trying to save face by trying to cut the extension into a separate bill.

But as stated, none of us really have a clue.

I was 100% certain Ohio State would not get Urban Meyer, and for very good reasons.

I am now, because of reasons listed above, and in the link, 100% certain we will not get online poker through this bill.

He is actually the only one making any sense. Internet poker will never be attached to anything and will be a stand alone bill that will be go through vigorous debate not only from the right but the far left CA whacks who will rush to protect the Indian casinos.

Boehner is putting the unpaid for out of control budget back on the Dems. Which is what he needs to do. It reinforces how the Pelosi led party wants no cuts of any substance and how they want the rich to pay for the whole tab while we turn into CA. Then Greece. It's actually a genius move but in the end this has absolutely nothing to do with any gaming of any kind.

Sorry you by into rumor and posts with no sources but start thinking with your heads and not hearts.

I always thought Ohio State would get Coach Meyer, and for very good reasons. He's from Ohio, coached at OSU as a graduate assistant, purchased a home in Upper Arlington months before Coach Tressel even resigned, and I could give a few more reasons, but I have to be at work in a little bit. What were your reasons again???

I find it hard to believe US citizens will not re-elect Obama on this alone. Basically you have an entire Republican field who looks awful compared to him right now which really is saying something. I don't want to derail this thread with a presidential debate but attaching this bill will not cost him many votes.

How long can the feds feasibly wait before states stop being okay with winks and nods? in this idiot's uninformed opinion there is too much momentum for it not to get done

ur posts suck in general. In this specific case, I will concede that the situation is very fluid, but more informed/connected posters than you or me have stated they are extremely confident as recently as early this morning.

Way to put things in context of 'the big picture'...except that iPoker has almost nothing to do with republicans long term political strategy between now and the election. It has everything to do with special interest groups lobbying for and against it on both sides of the isle, many of whom appear to be confident of something getting done. Thanks for your in depth analysis though...
