I honestly think that USC is going to win this weekend. The team has improved a ton as the weeks have gone on and this will be the most exciting atmosphere for a home game since Cal came in 2004 ranked #4 (what can I say we have basically a Lakers crowd). I actually think this is the first time since 2003 that we're home dogs, and my guess is that year Wazzu was probably favored by ~4.

As far as motivation this is basically our season. If the defense is ever going to show up, here is the chance, though two weeks ago was encouraging. Obviously there's nothing really on paper that says SC should win; we have honestly been one of the worst programs in football at defending against mobile/spread QBs over the past 6-7 yrs, and our D this year is like 157th overall out of 120 teams.

Still, I think we got it. Should be one of the games of the year for sure.

If your D is 157th, I'd hate to see where UW's D ranks.

Yeah, I agree that the schedule thing is great for an OP if someone wants to actually you know...... start the thread on Sunday each week. I don't really feel like looking for a well-formatted schedule to post though so if no one's made the thread by Monday morning (or last week more like Tuesday or Wednesday), then I figure I might as well start it myself with my own long post that's fun for me to write out.

Or we should just split up the weekly thread to a Rankings/Discussion thread, Tues/Weds/Thurs/Friday game week thread, Saturday early/afternoon game thread, Saturday late night thread.

Only way I can see USC winning is if they somehow force a ****load of turnovers. I hope Oregon realizes this and takes extra care with the ball.

yeah, stop making the thread until the games start and make one thread for the week up to the games

just whoever makes the rankings thread next week name it rankings/discussion or something

in fact can we get someone to merge these two threads?

Well I'd like to hear from some of the regulars before changing it. So far only one person(well and you) have commented on it since I've asked and I don't want to go around doing things just because I feel its right. I rather get input.

Edit: Especially because I work Saturdays and I can rarely participate in these.

I mean you can either say it in the thread or if you don't want to detract from the thread I guess PM me. I really want a consensus. I don't want to do something that is going to piss off the masses.

Splitting up in game discussion and general discussion would clean up the thread, but I think that it would lead to a ton of redundancy.

Like if I am posting in the in game thread as Texas is getting stomped by Iowa State, and I am posting things like "oh man nice catch" or "what as stupid playcall" and then all of a sudden I want to make a post about how overrated Texas is, do I have to switch threads or what?

If we merge rankings into the discussion thread, then that ends up being a lot of talk about how good teams are and who is over/underrated but less news type things, which we are already pretty short on anyway.

Also, where would posts like this one:

go? I mean it's a game analysis post, but it's also the type of thing that you would prefer to read in a general thread rather than surrounded by the OMGs of whatever game is being played that day, right?

I don't really care one way or another, and I think that for whatever reason this eyar's threads have been a little better and less cluttered than years past with fewer OMGs and LOLSPARTYs and crystalballmontage.gifs per page.

I don't think we need any radical changes, but it might be nice to have an official thread whenever a big Thursday or Friday game comes on to keep the flow of the midweek discussion from getting completely lost. I kinda like having the ranking thread separate from the regular weekly thread though, I don't see any reason to change that.

BTW, back onto random analysis that amuses me more than the people reading it, here are some way too early BCS projections:

BCS Championship: Boise State (12-0) vs. Alabama (12-1)
Rose Bowl: Oregon (11-1) vs. Ohio State (10-2)
Sugar Bowl: Auburn (11-1) vs. TCU (12-0)
Orange Bowl: Florida State (12-1) vs. Missouri (11-1)
Fiesta Bowl: Nebraska (12-1) vs. Pittsburgh (8-4)

Some notes:
-Soooo wanted to project Auburn going 10-2 with a loss to Ole Miss this week, but couldn't do it.
-Big Ten was easily the toughest conference to predict, but in the end I couldn't see Michigan State winning the game they needed on the last day of the season to clinch the Rose Bowl against Penn State, didn't like Wisconsin's chances to run the table with a trip to Ann Arbor on the docket, and I ended up predicting a 4-way tie which after looking over the Big Ten tiebreaking procedure seems to suggest that in a situation where H2H doesn't easily apply, they go to overall record to eliminate a team (in this case Iowa) before doing BCS ranking for the remaining teams which would likely give it to Ohio State.
-ACC was also really tough as Virginia Tech's been playing extremely strong lately, but I still think they probably lose @ Miami and give the Canes the Coastal crown who have a late schedule that sets up pretty well.

This thread doesn't really get big enough to warrant splitting, there's usually no more than a couple hundred posts by the time Saturday rolls around

Yeah, splitting it would clean things up some, but is the thread really that cluttered to begin with? It's pretty easy to read every single post each week (unlike something like Threadzilla). If things are going to be split, what exactly are the different threads? And how many posts will really be in them? Do we want one thread for rankings, one for general discussion, and one for gameday? Because I don't think the general discussion would have more than a couple hundred posts that get split off, and that seems like a pretty minimal gain considering that it would lead to at least some confusion over which thread to post a comment in, and would probably reduce overall content somewhat when someone says "I'm not sure what thread I should put this in... meh, screw it" and ends up not posting.

So yeah, unless someone presents a really good clear format for the proposed split (which I haven't seen yet), I'm against it.

Like I said, it would be Weekly Rankings/Discussion.
A thread for in-week games(this could be the same thread for saturday noon games).
A thread for 3:30/Night games.

After thinking I think that would be the best way of splitting it, if a split were to occur. That way discussion is never splintered and the in-game stays true but more manageable.

I'm anti-mega threads fwiw. I dislike the concept of threadzilla and dislike the concept of season threads, weekly threads are far superior. So I'm not really leaning one way or another, if I were to choose it would be to split it a bit because I miss out on reading the discussion due to in-game posting from wed/thu/fri games during the week. I also think splitting it would be beneficial as its worked real well for the NFL imo.

Edit: FWIW Weekly threads get roughly 1,100 posts a week(not including the rankings thread which is like 250-300 or so).

If people feel it splinters it or its not unruly enough, thats fine. But the idea has been thrown around but not discussed enough. It maybe best to just do this prior to next football season but it can't hurt now.

I don't understand the Auburn/Miss line. -7 Auburn. Ole Miss is terrible. Auburn wins by at least 2 1/2 touchdowns.

I think there should be a thread for this kind of talk during the week, and one thread for the gameday/liveblogish stuff. Dont see what the advantage is to splitting the gameday stuff into noon/330/night game threads.

betting it all on ole miss then

anything not directly game related would go in the discussion thread obv

the rankings and discussion have much more overlap than discussion and games

I mean, there will be a new discussion thread after the games anyway so there won't be posting in that much during games

Yeah, the thought of Auburn having a close win against a mediocre team is flat ridiculous.

Uh? Oregon played on Thursday last week. Boise played on a Monday across the country against a big name school earlier this year. Are you seriously judging them because they are playing on a Tuesday? What on earth is wrong with you? I'm not seeing how a Thursday game is so much more badass than a Tuesday game. Of course, Auburn would never not play on a Saturday because they super awesome and stuff.

Yeah, Auburn hasn't played a Thursday night game in over a MONTH

j/k, just ribbing you - I obv agree with everything that you posted, lol @ making fun of somebody for playing on a Tuesday.

Now the whole country gets to watch their beatdowns, instead of just yawning at a box score
