The problem with the arguement Colby is playing the heel is that hes getting xpac heat.

Like with Colby. People dont dislike him because he plays the gimmick good. They dislike him because the gimmick and his acting suck.

I give that round to Cormier 10-7 just for emasculating Stipe by holding him in the air so long.

People will still pay to see Colby lose though, he's just doing what Mayweather did. No one was paying to see Xpac do anything.

Stipe looks way too thin

Wow that was impressive from Stipe. Looked like he didnt have an answer for 3 rounds then just turned it on.

What a ****ing fight card, the three main fights lived up to the hype. Stipe losing that weight really helped his cardio and the adjustment in the 4th to go to the body was amazing to watch. We're lucky to witness these amazing athletes tonight.

Guess coming in lighter paid off, he had the better gas tank

Those body shots were sick, really chopped DC down

I think DC was up 3-0 as well

Stipe/Ngannou next obviously

Doubt Jones has any appetite to move up to fight a monster that can't sell a fight

Ok, gotcha. X-Pac never got heat like that though. The entire arena was shouting Colby Sucks and he wasn't even in the octagon.

For the record I liked X-Pac. It was Syxx that I hated.

Colby definitely doesn't have Xpac heat, people are intrigued by him. He's done a good job of marketing himself even if you find him annoying.

Part of the reason DC probably won't want to fight Stipe again is because Stipe can't sell fights for **** and w/o the champ PPV pts, DC just won't make that much in a rematch unless the UFC sweetens the pot for him.

Im in the same boat. One of my earliest memories of being a wrestling fan was when 123 kid beat Razor Ramon so I always had a soft spot for him.

I guess my point with Colby is that I dont think people are hating on Colby for the reasons that Colby wants them to hate him. I dont get angry or hate on him for the stuff he says, I legit get secondhand embarrassment and have to mute the interviews because he delivers the pre-written lines with such cringe.

If it was to turn out that his delivery and general awkwardness was all part of the act then id give him credit but i just think he sucks at his gimmick.

Colby Covington just walked in and this entire place erupted in boos. Nuclear heat. Never heard anything like that.

This doesn't matter tho.

"X-pac heat" isn't about whether or not your gimmick works as intended, it's about whether or not your gimmick draws money/fans. X-pac (post 1-2-3 Kid run, when he was actually getting "X-Pac Heat") wasn't drawing. Prior to taking over the name, X-Pac heat used to be called "Go away" or "Go home" heat. That is, fans didn't react to you and they didn't come to see you, they just wanted you gone so they people they would pay to see would come out.

Colby isn't getting that, people are absolutely paying to see him get beat. Whether it's because they think he's a Trumpet or because they think he's just pretending and want him to be exposed is irrelevant. They're going to buy a ticket to watch Colby fight Usman in the hopes he gets KTFO. That's real heat, and it moves tickets.

Its not really a hill I want to die on so im more than happy to concede that I am in the minority with my opinion on him. The way i look at it is that Im pretty easily convinced to pay for a PPV, as long as there is 1-2 fights I really want to see I will order it. Im not ordering Usman vs Colby unless there is a strong undercard, of course it doesnt help that Usman is pretty boring but at the same time im paying for Usman vs Masvidal in a heartbeat. I guess I have a hard time agreeing he is at the level of "paying to see him lose" when I have no interest to pay to even see him fight and I pay for like 80%+ of the ppvs.

If you pay for 80% of the ppvs then you aren't typical of the majority of fans particularly the casual fans that are the biggest determining factor of whether a fighter produces big #s.

You say you would pay for Usman vs Masvidal, but ignoring they are teammates for a second are you saying you wouldn't pay for Colby vs Masvidal? Pretty sure that would sell way more. I'm a big Usman fan but I'm pretty sure the ingredient in that matchup that doesn't generate interest is Usman.

Colby has turned himself into a star. That doesn't necessarily mean he is going to sell huge PPV #s like GSP but he is at least a legit b-side and also can draw interest as a co-main of a massive PPV. Without his shtick, nobody would want to see Colby whatsoever and we certainly wouldn't be posting about him right now. Dare I say he probably sells better than Demetrious Johnson who has the record for most consecutive title defenses in UFC history.

I should note that when i say Usman vs Colby isnt a fight im that interested in paying for, I will still watch the fight and probably enjoy it. Its just not a fight that I feel like im missing out if a stream gives out or something like that. As far as Colby vs Masvidal, thats a fight id prefer over Usman vs Masvidal as while I might not enjoy Colby's character I can atleast agree he is more interesting than Usman.
