Because this is a tipping thread, of course.

Re: Wtf Cheap People

For those who are against tipping, have you been to places where tipping is not the standard? I went to australia and their service industry is terrible, the wait staff gets paid a living wage and just does not give a **** about the customer. Plus the cost of paying for a real wage for the workers is included in the bill either way.

It can depend. I noticed the same thing in Australia. But I went to an all-inclusive in Mexico, and there was great service, even though all tips were "included" in the price of it. Perhaps because getting a job there was a big deal, and the management was very good at identifying good service. I noticed very good service in Korea, but I never paid the bills, so I have no idea if tipping is customary there.

Vegas had some of the worst customer service I've seen anywhere. Pretty much every restaurant we went to had awful service. The worst was at the airport, when we were in a bit of a hurry to catch our flight, and it took 15 minutes just to get menus, and then the waiter was just standing around doing jack **** to get us the bill. It's one of the few times I've ever stiffed someone giving him the exact amount of the bill and throwing a few quarters and pennies on the table.

**** that. ATM fees should be avoided in all but the most extreme circumstances.

EDIT: The bank I use has literally thousands of locations in the city so its never really a hassle for me to find one, I'm not sure how it is elsewhere.

For the people who think I am out of line:

1. The $2 charge won't "add up everytime" because he is just using the ATM that charges $2 for ONE time only.

2. I had to be along for the ride

Did you read the thread? No one is against tipping. They just think it is OK to tip .50 for a f*cking beer instead of $1.

Re: Wtf Cheap People

If my drink cost $3.50, I'll leave the .50 if its a beer and the $1 if its a mix drink. Beers take no effort whatsoever, and frankly don't deserve the same tip as a mixed drink.

I consider myself to be a big tipper. I'll leave 20% for standard to poor service and if you can keep my drink refilled, I'll go as high as 40%. I tip everyone, too. In Las Vegas, I've learned to just carry around a bunch of dollar bills with me for various members of the hotel staff.

I just don't get tipping someone so much for opening my beer for me. It's gotten to the point at bars where I will order in bulk, so that my tip doesn't bug me as much. A bartender does less work opening a beer for me than the guy at Burger King does when I order my food. I will, however, tip a buck to a cocktail waitress for a beer. She is more like a server to me than a bartender anyway.

Speaking of cheap people,

Odds that OP evades taxes and doesn't report all his tips?

I was thinking the same thing after reading about three posts above yours. That 50c tip is really more like 75c after he's done not reporting it!

This coming from someone with 50 posts is so LOL.

Henry is the only real non-cheapo in this thread.

It is not like I'm saying if you can afford a $400/night room you shouldn't travel. $30 is fairly insignificant and the two hotels are not even comparable.
maybe theyre there for a week and will save 200 bucks
maybe they like being in the middle of the strip
maybe they spend 3 hours a day in their room so its not worth the extra money

Re: Wtf Cheap People

I'm one of those annoying "used to work in food service so I'm way too nice to the waiter and tip 25% even if the service sucked" types(obviously trying to impress my date!!!). But now I'm wondering, when I get one of those "bucket of domestics for $12" deals at a local establishment I traditionally give the waitress $15. Is that nitty? I strongly feel otherwise, and I've noticed no problems with my service.

I don't know him so perhaps.

But in my experience people who don't sweat things like $1 tips, cab rides and good value hotel upgrades are also people who are generous with their time and usually fun to be around. They most often have a here-today-gone-tomorrow funloving attitude which I look for in friends.

Cheapos usually have other hangups that I can't stand. They are just nittier, imo.

Re: Wtf Cheap People

I use the landromat because the fluff-and-fold people fold stuff I don't want folded, my shirts get shrunk, they aren't open to drop off or pickup a lot of the times I want to use them, and more expensive obv. It's so annoying trying to race to pickup your clothes before they go home, only to find out they knocked off a little early today. Or forgetting they're closed on Sun.

What I don't do is sit in the laundromat for 2 hours (I have no idea what's supposed to take 3-4 hours). No one's going to steal my clothes and if it happens once it's still worth all the time I saved. I have a very streamlined system. I'm in the laudromat 5-10 min. total - not quite enough time to get sucked into the Golden Girls or lifetime movie that's always playing. My favorite thing is shopping for groceries while I'm doing laundry and getting my car washed at the same time. Triple-awesome efficiency there.

Nitty because it's too much? It depends on how much cleavage she's showing. Yeah it's a bit much for carrying a bucket, but I'd probably do the same in this spot. I'd give a ten and five instead of a ten and a bunch of wrinkled ones. $15 for 6 brews handpicked and carried to you is a pretty decent deal, all told. It would be pretty lame pulling four ones out of your wallet while the waitor is standing there.

I think I'm one of those, sometimes tips 15%, sometimes tips 30% guy, based on convenience for me and my wallet type guy. IMO, it all averages out in the long run. Something poker players should understand.
