Nah **** that. Those $2+ service charges to have access to MY money really piss me off, plus a lot of banks hit you with an additional fee on their end so you're actually paying more than what the machine tells you about.
If you pay $2 everytime you get money from an ATM is adds up really fast. Say you go to the ATM 2 times a week and pay $2 on avg, that's over $200 a year for the priviledge of being able to use the money that you put in the acct.
**** that. ATM fees should be avoided in all but the most extreme circumstances.
EDIT: The bank I use has literally thousands of locations in the city so its never really a hassle for me to find one, I'm not sure how it is elsewhere.

Re: Wtf Cheap People
Yea there is an argument that if enough people avoid the ATMs that charge you, they'll get rid of them.
Like that would ever happen though :|

Too lazy to wade thru the search, but OP had a classic a few months/year ago where he theorized that he was a morally superior person (surprise!) because he didn't drink mixed drinks.

Re: Wtf Cheap People
Oh boy...where do I begin?
OP has problems.
1) Why is he attacking the people responding to a question HE ASKED with such animosity? Why is he acting above the spending habits of the rest of 2+2. He's a damn bartender. I don't care how a person makes a living, but come on. Either A) he's bartending part-time, in which case he shouldn't be complaining because part-time jobs are easy to come by, and if one sucks you find another; or B) he's chosen to bartend as a career and then complain about the money, which is just sad.
2) Why does he care one bit about other people's spending habits. With very few exceptions, this has very little impact on anyone else.
3) His claim that $1 per drink is "standard" for everyone who isn't "cheap" is wrong. If I order 8 beers at $3.50, I'd probably tip about $6, not $8. Anyone who dubs me "cheap" as a result is a moron.
4) The rest of his grievances are about people making decisions that have no impact on him. The fact that he gets so upset over it is just strange.

Re: Wtf Cheap People
AFAIK it's just that service industry mentality. Everyone I knew in college who tended bar / waited tables was ultra-righteous about tipping and would go on for days about it with very little prompting. Bear in mind these are college kids, but yeah. I myself have one of the worst skillsets God ever gave a man for sales / service type jobs and always avoided them in favor of light industrial & warehousing stuff during my Peon Jobs stage of life.

There is a difference between being broke and being cheap. If you are tight on money then you don't go out to drink. If you can't afford to tip then you can't afford to drink. In OP's example about the friend not wanting to spend an extra $15*2 nights to stay at the MGM over Imperial Palace is a perfect example. If you care about $30 then you shouldn't be going to Vegas in the first place.

Re: Wtf Cheap People
Yeah, because it's not like poor people ever have drinking problems that they sometimes take with them to establishments away from their place of residence.

Re: Wtf Cheap People
If you are poor and have a drinking problem you want to maximize the amount you can consume so you should be drinking at home where beers are more in the $1-$1.25 range rather then at a bar where drinks are $3+. You can get considerably more drinking done that way.

Re: Wtf Cheap People
Yes, you should, and yet you still find broke alcoholics drinking away their sorrows in bars. Man, who could believe that these people wouldn't act rationally?!?! Maybe if they tipped more they'd have more friends at these establishments and wouldn't be so sad all the time!

Re: Wtf Cheap People
wasn't it a better world when our servants had to be dignified instead of cocky and ungrateful [censored]?
My new rule of tipping: any service an ape can do just as capably as a human, the provider of that service should consider himself lucky to be tipped anything.

Unless you're along for the ride, this is not really something to get worked up about. Esp when it's like a 10% vig on your money.

It is only 10% vig if you take out $20 at a time. Realistically it is 2% at most and usually a lot less.

This is just good finance management. It's not 2 dollars anyway. It's 2-3 dollars at the ATM, and another 2 dollar charge from your bank... So it's like a gallon of gas just to withdraw from an ATM. If you have your own bank nearby, then why not go there?

Two things have been made clear in this thread:
1. OP is douche.
2. Henry17 is independently wealthy and never has to worry about money ever.

Indeed. Four of the five guys I lived with for three years during/post college were in the service industry, and their sense of entitlement was mind blowing. I think one of the main issues is tipping less than standard is (generally) the way you tell your server "hey, you suck." Since this doesn't give specifics, obviously, the server just assumes they did everything right and that you are a cheapass, when in reality my water was empty 3/4 of the time I was there and after taking our order you didn't come close enough to my table for me to ask you to refill it.
Oh, and for you servers out there, I hate it when you blame the kitchen for something, even if it really was the kitchen's fault.

In all fairness OP gave 4-5 examples / situations and while the majority of this topic has been devoted to the beer tipping example that really wasn't OP's point.

Re: Wtf Cheap People
Servers are worried about tips because it is almost their entire income. It's a very simple connection to make that they would be very interested in how the majority of their income is taken in. One of my good friends works as a server I doubt he has ever done anything malicious to someone who does not tip well. It does not seem to be an sense of entitlement as much as it's an expectation of a consistent flow of income. I am sure if you spoke to people in a sales industry they would speak poorly of those they know they can't get a sale out of and it would be the same attitude just pointed in different directions.
The moral of the story is not that people are better than servers because they have a better position in life or because servers have come to expect a certain percentage tip. It's because most people are like the OP and are just greedy douche *******s.
