DMV seems to think he still owns the car

probably all that matters i would think?

buyer can contact police, police will go to OP, OP has new title, DMV confirms its his car.

buyer could sue OP over $800, that will never happen.

i think he did the right thing, OP should contact buyer and offer to sell it for $900 now.

I really don't know how this works, but I wonder if that is all that matters or not.

(EDIT: I opened this thread and waited a while before responding, so I didn't see the above post by the general before making this post while basically repeats his first line.)

Did you give the kid a receipt when he bought the car? Without a receipt there isn't much he can do. If he has a receipt it could get messy, but keep all the bills you've paid for the car so you can get that back from him before giving him the car again.

The other guy does have the title, and this thread...

He is screwed if the guy saved his facebook messages and he can prove the guy admitted he sold the car. But this guy is unlikely to do anything.

Unless he was told that he could get the car back for free and get OP sent to jail, then he might be motivated.

I know that ... isn't quite but I wasn't really serious about this thread being good evidence.

uh, no. I would think the district attorney's and a judge's opinion would carry far more weight. IANAL, but I think I would prefer to be in the villain's shoes here rather than the OP's.

Even if technically this is car theft, the police would probably never go forward with it given the circumstances. Worst case is he owes op 800 - impound fee so if go bottoms up. He only owes 400 to the kid.

Nothing would prob happen. Seems like a procastinating lazy kid anyway so nothing will probably ever happen. Seems like a whole lot of trouble when the kid nows hes in the wrong.

Go to impound lot to find that the car is gone. Ask op where his car is. Get told by op that he was told to leave by kid and prob got autioned off. If he doesnt believe it, or gets told by op that the dmv told him to get a new title etc. I dont see kid going through procedures to get "his car" back when its long gone and sold already.

So op netted 300 bucks? Nice. So you going to notify of the sale this time when you sell the car again?

Wtf is wrong with ppl saying op stole the car etc. u guys are ridiculous. OP communicated the situation to the buyer and gave more than enough time for the buyer to reconcile it and the buyer made it pretty obv that he was not gonna take responsibility.

OP sold his car to the guy. It wasn't OP's to take back from the towing place. It doesn't matter how long the other guy left the car there, he can do what he wants with his car.

Not if the buyer didn't take the steps necessary to complete the sale and thus left OP financially responsible for the towing/impound fees.

I gave it to my friend who is letting me use his house to park the car at. There was also 2 pairs of air Jordan's, a nice AK 47 style BB gun with BB's, a Halloween mask, a broom, and some of smelly ass clothes that I have already thrown away.

Exactly what I'm saying..... Should I really just hope and pray that the original buyer actually does pay the impound fees?

I'm the 1 who owes the money and I have to save my ass.

No, you're supposed to tell the DMV you sold the car so they won't think it's yours anymore (since it isn't).

Yes of-course... Honestly not looking forward to selling the car again because the only people that hit me up last time was not people I normally like to deal with.

I got numerous text messages like:

" yo you still gots da black infinity"

" will you take $100"

1 text message I got at 3 AM saying that would I be willing to drop off the car.

OBV I can't remember all of them, but I got a lot of strange text messages. This guy who I sold to came with an adult and his GF and he told me that he was planning on fixing up the car and that he had just enough money to get it registered and bla bla bla. I gave him the benefit of the doubt which was no doubt a big mistake.

So you stole more than the car? Did you tell the guy you had his stuff and you were throwing it away?

OK you win. This was part of my extravagant plan the whole time. Sell the car to some1 I know would never register it and once it got impounded I would make my move!

Why don't you like dealing with people who send texts like that?

I didn't say it was your plan, but stealing the stuff inside the car is exactly what you did.
