well, i like the choice of roy hobbs as a name in this onion-like piece, but this section really botches its whole point. if you're gonna write an article satirizing grammar nits, then you can't begin a sentence with numerals, and you can't use the construction "the reason is because."

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs are an awesome group. I've seen them live twice and have everything they've ever recorded. You're a poopy head.

Here's a Robot Chicken clip I shot a while back. Obviously they're referring to punctuation and not grammar,(<-- comma correct here?) but still funny.

Yes: "not grammar, but still funny."
No: "not grammar,(<-- comma correct here?) but still funny."

Seeing commas in front of parentheses always bugs me.

I think most who post nittery in this thread know when to not nit in real life, and when it doesn't matter. But this is a nit thread.

The video had some good points, and he made them very eloquently.

Is the hyphen misplaced?

"...Lev was flown to Cooper Medical Center in Camden for non-life threatening burns, police said."

ya (to CQ)

eta: if it were an open compound it'd require an en dash, as in "...Lev was flown to Cooper Medical Center in Camden for non–Abraham Lincoln burns, police said."

Agree with CQ on hyphen. The version that was published is awkward.

Of course, if this were something one of my FB friends had posted I'd point that out and (s)he would respond "Yeah, but it's still funny, right?" To which I would probably not bother giving the obvious answer.

I'm in favor of bringing back the snark.

Irony is very hard to write, especially in casual writing on the internet.
