Credits are what you get when you take, (and pass?), a class in a US college. You need a certain number of them to get a degree. I think if you have a class that is one hour a week, that would be one credit hour.

So 168 would be the theoretical maximum, but obviously no-one can expect a college student to do more than 15-18 hours a week

I think 18+ would be suicide. But this is coming from someone who's taking her first semester of classes in four years in the fall, and somehow wound up with 16 credits. So much for easing back in.

It really depends on the classes. If you are relatively smart and balance your time well.. you could easily do a bunch of freshmen/sophomore level classes. It would really only be a pain in the ass at finals time. If your school is decent sized at all, research your profs at a site like ratemyprofessor.. choose classes that you have to take but don't care about that have easy professors.

I just took a summer econ class where I showed up for the first class and the final. He has 4 tests, and a final that is just a make up test, and you are allowed to make up all 4 tests if you want. His in-class work for each test is a 2 page packet (usually front to back).. 15 definitions, one or two numbers problems and one short answer test. The in-class packet is nearly identical to the test, he just changes numbers (but keeps them easy, like multiplying/adding 10). He gives exactly what he wants in the short essays. I went to him two days before the final, asked for the packets.. he went over just enough for me to get it, told me what he wanted in each short essay.. studied a bit and binked an A in both classes. If not for researching the class, I would have taken a pain in the ass professor that grades hard as hell.

So bacon, if there are easy classes that you need toward your degree, I'd def take like 6 or 7 of them.. and if they are overwhelming, just talk to your prof/fin. aid about dropping one or two.
