Woah, I feel like this thread has really branched out in too many directions. Leaf Jordan Treestos alone guys. This thread has gotten too far from the root issue and is starting to bear bad fruit.

At 75-150.

Darren Elias raises to 650 from under the gun, Chris Leong calls from middle position, and Jordan Cristos makes it 6,050 from the big blind, Elias uses about half of his time before calling and Leong folds.

The flop comes AsJc9d and Cristos bets 9,000. Elias calls, then the two players check the Js on the turn and the Kh on the river.

Elias waits for Cristos to turn over his hand. After a couple seconds, Cristos reveals 3d5c and Elias takes the pot with AdQd

Darren Elias – 75,000 (500 bb)
Jordan Cristos – 32,000 (213 bb)

Is it acceptable to tank 15 seconds on every preflop decision, even if it's the wsop main event?

Apparently not any more ...

I don't see a problem with 15 second preflop tanking and I get very tilted with live tournaments and how slow it is

Also shot clock won't be less than 15 seconds anyways. Just sounds like he's salty that this dude is running good.

This is why a shot clock is -not- the answer to tanking. As I stated in the other Cristos thread, the big problem is not with players taking a few extra minutes on big decisions once or twice per tournament, but with players taking a few extra seconds on every trivial decision.

Some sort of chess clock would potentially be a solution, but I don't know how it could be easily implemented. The other solution would be to just ban players like Cristos who routine abuse the normal amount of allotted time from the WSOP entirely.

This.

A 30 second shot clock would just mean the 15 second tankers would have an excuse to use 30 seconds.
Instead of helping the situation, it would probably end up making it even worse.

Ok well I don't play live much, but how come this issue is only brought up in live play and not online. Like I get that ya you have to sit in a chair, but that doesn't seem like a monumental effort making it considerably different than online play. The chess shot clock thing actually sounds really smart in theory but I think that would be impossible to implement. Just give everyone a set amount of time for each decision and be done with it.

Although it might have been handled badly, it is just dumb to tank so long.
He knows roughly which ranges to play pre-flop, and you don't need 15 seconds to not give away tells.
This just hurts your hourly amount of hands, so you miss out on using your edge.
When stacks get short or ICM or other tournament factors become very important, taking time makes more sense.

Yep. Also this is the reason good players don't like players taking time because it hurts their hourly. However, obv poker tournaments are zero-sum games. Playing less hands effectively gives worse players a better chance with the increased variance. You can't just across the board make players act instantly because the bad players don't know pre ranges, etc and what to do immediately. This is how good players win anyways. You want to give everyone a 5 second shot clock online. In a year the only people playing will be gods and nobody will make money.
