To the rest of the world, I'd like to apologize on behalf of the country I was born in. Without going all political in a poker forum, there's a lot of crap the United States does which I (and most Americans) disagree with. This is yet another of those things.

I'm sure that long-term this won't mean the death of online poker in the United States. There's just too much money to be made from this thing for it to die off. If it's something actually run or at least signed off on by the U.S. government, well...it will probably be done completely bassackwards, but it will at least on some level be poker.

"Disenfranchised" doesn't even begin to describe my feelings right now.
great post.

can we please please please stopppp these posts.

I feel dumb for getting up in arms about them, but this is just horribly flawed logic. READ THE INDICTMENT.

Im all for the governments being corrupt / power grabbers but I reserve my own judgment. I see no application of anything besides trying to enforce laws from people literally raping their land.

I am almost PRO fraud if thats possible, but at the same time im not so twisted in my love for online poker / pyramid fraud schemes and hatred for authority and government that I draw such amazingly stupid conclusions as i see every page of this thread.

Here is what I think will happen (disclaimer - I'm not a lawyer, and I'm not very smart):

The parties that were indicted will pay significant fines after a court battle lasting for 1.5 to 2 years.

During this time, legislation will be passed, and 888 will take over legal online poker operations in the US.

After the legal proceedings end, Full Tilt and Stars will re-enter the market. This will create a three-way competition for US players.

Also, I'm sure FT and PS knew this was coming at some point. Additionally, I find it shady that 888 partnered with Harrah's. Do you think Harrah's execs knew what was coming?

The Hustler casino thing seems interesting. Good timing indeed, haha. I'm suspicious.

On the bright side, I think a poker site sponsored by a B&M casino might not be that bad. Casinos like to give out comps to their customers. Just imagine if they give them a free $25 or $50 to try out on their online poker site.

In the end, I think online poker will be in a better place in three years. However, this whole indictment smells fishy to me.

What? What does one have to do with the other? You realize the far right has spearheaded the anti online poker thing since uigea right? Please site where in Obama's campaign promises he said he would regulate online poker. Regardless of what you think of Obama its so ******ed and blatantly and blindly partisan to link him to this somehow.

For those that had a chance to play on Stars/Tilt/UB hopefully your at least 21 years old. Guess we won't see any 17 and 18 year old phenoms for a while. The under 21 crowd must really be hurting. WTF are they gonna do for the next few years. Setup garage games with high school friends???? Glad I at least got to enjoy the online poker for a couple years. (SIGH)

Anyone thinking that they are determined to remove a tiny % of the populations freedom to play poker because they are some crazy regime is just flat out dumb.

These are completely crooked companies based on the indictment and while I and im sure others could rationalize their actions its still flat out fraud.
I think what a lot of people are missing with these arguments is that the US government basically forced FTP and PS to commit fraud by stealing their money.

They bribed banks to hide money transactions only to avoid DOJ crackdowns, which were illegal in the first place.

Their only mistake was to not understand that only the government can do illegal things and get away with it...
This is actually a great setup and I'm sure it was all calculated from the beginning.
DOJ steals money from FTP/PS, knowing they'll have to do sketchy things in order to avoid losing too much money and then indicts them on fraud charges.
Brilliant...

STOP POSTING ABOUT ILLEGAL ONLINE POKER ECT FREEDOMS OMFFFFG NVGTARDS.

These companies were running sophisticated fraud schemes against the US. They laundered BILLIONS of dollars and committed what I would assume are thousands of cases of wire and bank fraud. Debate the merits of these charges, or jurisdiction or facts... but please don't turn this into a Glen Beck televangelist BS about the unfairness of the government. U think anyone cares about ur dumb online poker freedoms and if you have them or not? No they want their slice of the cake, just or not.

This indictment is all based on this clowns allegations. Getting himself off and throwing others under the bus to do it. Who knows if his unformation even holds any truth. Other then bargaining his freedom. Ftp seems to think by there release that the charges are bogus
