Seems crazy that we haven't come up with a solution to something as simple as card marking for cheating. People don't want technological solutions as they trust that even less but feel we should have come up with some ways to prevent it. The way card marking is done and used I presume has gotten more sophisticated over the years but on the other side of the fence, nothing feels like it has really changed much in 20 years to prevent it.

Edit - In one of Dneg's Vlogs this year he pointed out a marked card. He got the deck replaced and the exact same card was marked in the new deck which he then got replaced again. He didn't make a big deal out of it but clearly implied he felt it was quite strange.

I've only ever played in one game where marked/damaged cards were constantly and immediately noticed by the floor. It was refreshing but in hindsight it probably means a lot of people are getting away with it. If I notice discoloration or a physical defect I'll point it out but honestly I've never been actively looking for it.

Smith is arrogant and annoying. I don’t mind Kabrhel’s antics but if he’s a cheat, he should be banned.

If the allegations were true. it would make sense why he kept standing up and looking at peoples "stacks"....

Kornuth looks like he built a wall of chips to block his cards from him. I would have, too. And double hand cover them.

Right, because placing the cards separate on the sensors on the table is making it even easier for someone to see markings if this is true. Covering them completely with your hand is obv the best method, it can't be argued against due to "protect your hand."

You must expect cheaters when money and competition is involved, I guess the behavior is metagame, usually someone trying to gain an advantage are quiet and try not to be noticed at all. I still think this acting gives him a good cover for the "standing up", if he was ultra quiet and started standing and looking over peoples "stacks" every big pot it would be more alarming.

If Dan Smith ships the $250k, he will be in 4th on the All-Time Money List just behind Stephen Chidwick.

If "wash the deck" guy isnt the worst person in the poker room, he is in the team photo

I hate "wash the deck" guy with the passion of a thousand suns

Very serious and potentially actionable. Be careful folks, about saying such things that could impact the earnings of a person bankrolled deep enough to sue you for laughs. If he got banned as a result of such an accusation, or even if he could claim he lost action, he could drag you into court though how likely it is he would win $$$ is another question altogether.

Is staying at the Horseshoe a good idea for a week stay? It think it's close to the action but I stayed at the RIO a couple years back and regretted it.

Why would staying at Horseshoe be a bad idea? I actually used to stay there all the time during my WSOP trips even when when WSOP was at Rio (and often walk to Rio!).

It's not a luxury property, but I always found it to be a very good value for the money, with clean and relatively spacious rooms. And now with the WSOP actually there, it's certainly the most convenient option.

The biggest drawback is that the food options there are very mediocre. But the location is terrific, as Bellagio/Caesars/Paris/Cosmo are all basically next door. Right now, it's not quite as convenient to other casinos as usual because of all the strip construction, but they're still very close.

To be fair, I haven't stayed there in several years (I have no comp status with Caesars anymore, and better comp status with MGM). So maybe it's really gone downhill, but my experience there was always quite good.

Just for some mid WSOP bookkeeping, here are the players who entered both the $100k high roller and $200k high roller and didn’t cash in either.

All info gathered from streams / PokerNews updates. There could be some mistakes but in general it would be that some players that fired 2 $100k bullets were counted as only 1. Relatively certain the $250k entries is 100%.

Down $700k (2 bullets in each):
Makita Badziakowski
Alex Foxen
Jared Jaffe
Sam Soverel
Christoph Vogelsang
Sean Winter

Down $600k (2 bullets in $250k, 1 bullet in $100k):
Espen Jorstad
Brian Kim
Michael Moncek
Aleksejs Ponakovs
Jake Schindler

Down $450k (1 bullet in $250k, 2 bullets in $100k):
Stephen Chidwick
Seth Davies
Phil Ivey
Daniel Negreanu
Nick Petrangelo

Down $350k (1 bullet in each):
Isaac Haxton
Henrik Hecklen
Chris Hunichen
Bryn Kenney
Sean Perry
Brian Rast
Andrew Robl
Talal Shekerchi
Leon Sturm
Danny Tang
Sean Winter

Players who entered both & Profited (cashes minus buy-ins):
Chris Brewer +$4.694 million
Artur Martirosian +$2.672 million
Jans Arends +$2.227 million
Kornuth +$1.686k million
Cary Katz +$1.243 million

Adrian Mateos +$792k
David Peters +$450k
Jeremy Ausmus +$270k
Brandon Steven +$225k
Dan Smith +$212k

**Chance Kornuth & David Peters were the only players who cashed in both

In above I wrote Jared Jaffe—meant Jonathan Jaffe

Mostly at Cosmo, which is now my favorite place to stay whenever I’m in Vegas.

I also did a few days at MGM Signature, which while it is not convenient to much of anything else on the strip, is actually not a bad walk to Paris/Ballys since you can just walk around the back of them.

I hadn't played WSOP in a few years. Horseshore/Paris >>>> Rio >>>> Binions. jm2c. Easy to navigate, easy to get in and out.. close to the monorail, so you can pretty much stay wherever on the strip and be at Horseshoe in 10 minutes. I thought I'd prefer the RIO, over HS/Paris, just for the parking situation but no big complaints from me. Looking forward to donating some more money! haha

I was curious about this. He is a coach for Jonathan Little so maybe Little has a large piece of him. Who knows

Yes, I noticed that as well. I had kind of assumed he was just on an upward trajectory in his career with a backer wanting to put him into high rollers.

Either that or he crushes high stakes cash.

It’s pretty crazy to be down an amount equivalent to 1/10 of your decade plus tournament cashes as a pro in 2 tournaments.
