holy crap. the world is a changing. Eventually things are going to have to go back to normal. We cannot live like this forever

In the near term, someone is going to have to really really want/need to gamble to play in this environment, with dealers wearing masks and gloves and reminders everywhere in the casino that its not safe to be there.

just another fun addition to this clown world...

and it's looking like the casinos are going to be the first businesses to reopen.....probably by memorial day....

what do you all think about that?

i mean if this thing is as serious and contagious as they say it is.....wouldn't casinos be the LAST thing you would open up???

i mean shouldn't the governor have already stopped company's from even TAKING reservations?

gambling to me would seem to be on the list of the most least essential businesses ever...especially when dealing with a 'pandemic'

i thought the governor cared about our lives over everything?

am i missing something?

Vegas being part of the Western pact has to be bad for their chances of actually reopening I would guess (compared to being grouped with the more red states)?
04-27-2020 , 02:32 PM
Yes, the pact doesn't look good.

These seem a bit obstructive? Especially at venues where alcohol is served? Will people be bumping into these a lot as they get used to them? How will the guards affect table-side dining? How often will those surfaces be wiped down assuming people will be speaking, coughing, and sneezing onto them?

Should these be removed by casinos eventually or become a permanent fixture?

I feel like everything to do with the mitigation efforts (social distancing, masks, disinfectant procedures, etc.) is going to make for a weird, at best, and pretty awful, at worst, gaming experience. But such is life. Things will get better in time.

Poker tables aren’t opening for awhile after casinos reopen is what I’m being told. There’s no way to operate with that equipment at poker and to be honest a couple of other table games as well. Baccarat comes to mind as one
04-27-2020 , 08:10 PM
Maybe a lot of them come back smoke free.

04-27-2020 , 08:36 PM
Since NV is in a pact with California does that mean one for all, all for one?

Seems painfully true.

I can’t imagine them getting clearance to open up poker for months and months.

What doctor is going to approve of 10 people sitting right next to each other for hours on end exchanging chips and cards. Just to gamble.

I could see slots that require little interaction and can be spaced. A highly social game like poker provably can’t openly operate during a pandemic. All the restrictions will kill the game and any profit.

Poker will become a home game and online affair for a bit of time.

Sad times

I don't understand some of the objections in the Twitter thread. No, of course they don't deal in any way with the chips or cards - I don't think there really is any realistic way to deal with chips and cards, if you're going to continue to use them. But a person can protect themselves from chips and cards by keeping their hands away from their face or handling anything else, until they've washed them. What a person can't protect themselves from are people within a few feet of them coughing, breathing, talking, etc. - this is an effort to mitigate that.

If people feel that it's not safe to offer table games where spacing isn't possible, I can understand that. And I'd be inclined to agree, unless I were to see some reasoned medical opinions that it was safe enough. But *if* they plan to reopen them, I can see how the casinos think this could help.

I think I have no idea where you get that idea. Not sure where that date comes from, and I certainly haven't seen anything suggesting they'll be first. Even if you're engaging in a bit of hyperbole, I've not seen anything to suggest they're anywhere close to the top of the list, unless you think the Vegas mayor is going to be put in charge of that decision.

If poker doesn't open I don't think it will be for covid-reasons (at least in reality). It'll be because a venue doesn't want to have poker. There's really little difference between poker and many other table games with regard to covid. And many of those casinos which have outlined new gaming processes have also done so for table games and poker.

Of course it remains to be seen how things play out. But I do think the demand for poker should be somewhat higher than most table games in the begging, which would give casinos an incentive to get poker going. It'll be a while before people start going to Vegas in the numbers they're accustomed to for things like shows, conventions and general gaming But we know there is a significant number of people itching to play poker. And Vegas could give them an outlet for that, so long as they do it right.

I wrote a month ago in this thread that I felt the earliest the casinos in Vegas would open would be mid June and got a lot of pushback, mainly from akashenk. Looking more and more like that's probably when some will reopen. I definitely think poker will be an afterthought for a long time in most of them. It doesn't make much money for the casinos and it would be very hard to practice safety guidlines. I am though really curious to see how the cardrooms in California handle this once they reopen. Commerce and the Bike are huge rooms for poker so you gotta think maybe they have poker again but much more limited in the # of games and players at the table.

I used to play mainly 5/10 on the East Coast on Saturdays. The games were not terribly good before the pandemic, I can't imagine what they are going to look post pandemic. The 5/10 might not even go anymore. I used to play with some small business owners, I can't imagine they are going to be itching to play if/when the rooms open, unless they are independently wealthy. I wonder if the 5/10 pros will try live again or just give up.

If you are sitting in your room with nothing to do, the least you can be doing is studying your craft. I am in an industry where my skills are antiquated, I am spending a lot of my free time learning new technologies. I was doing this even months before the pandemic, shunning many social activities. You have to be able to adapt to change and not rely on what previously gave you success in many facets of life in order to survive.

They did a short news piece on that plexiglass at the BJ table that Joe Tall had posted. It's funny this chick has probably never been in a casino and talks about Poker, Poker dealers and Poker chips, instead of BJ and other table games.
