Could go for some of those Pub365 @ Tuscany tacos right about now, but I've never seen anyone below 70 gamble there. This could end badly.

Nevada Governor speaking live. He said no firm date to open. Bars would remain closed on phase 1 open.

No way Governor allows Tuscany Casino to open May 1st. Look for at least another 2 week extension of his shut down order fairly soon.

When the hell will they just open WSOP online to everyone?

The thing is he just talked in circles for an hour and said nothing really, except schools would remain closed for the school year and learn from home.

He didn't say the shut down ended at end of month and he didn't say it was extended. He said we are at Phase Zero, his own invention. lol

We don't know if opening casinos is included when we get to phase 1(White House guidelines), I doubt it as he said that would include max groups of 10 gathering and may or may not include gyms.

Probably will be multiple large protests this week and I'm sure Mayor Goodman is going nuts now. We will see.

"WSOP 2020 has not been canceled. Caesars is targeting dates sometime in the fall of 2020 for the return of the poker tournament. The company will announce the exact dates in the future. Depending on the timeline they may have to reduce the number of events for the WSOP."

"The Rio could remain shuttered for longer than other Caesars properties in Las Vegas since it’s located off the Vegas Strip and away from the other properties.

Even if Rio opens, Caesars could decide to relocate WSOP anyway. This could be an opportunity to showcase the new Caesars Forum convention center opening behind The Linq and Harrah’s. The new convention center was supposed to host the 2020 NFL Draft which was turned into a virtual event as Las Vegas shuttered all non-essential businesses for April."

LV Mayor Goodman has been on CNN like 30 minutes straight getting grilled by Anderson Cooper, totally embarrassing herself.

Is discussion of Goodman considered appropriate for this thread? I know when I mentioned another politician here a few days ago I got a moderator warning.

It has to do with opening casinos in Las Vegas and Covid-19, all heavy topics in this thread. I don't talk any politics.

The Wynn announced that they will stay closed until May 22. Not sure if this means they are tentatively intending to open May 22, but it would be in line with their reopening plan of "mid-to-late May".

"Despite eager media speculation regarding the fate of buffets on the Strip, one resort is investing heavily to make sure a crown jewel of all-you-can-eat dining won't be mothballed when visitors ultimately return to Las Vegas"

There are levels of stupid. She has reached such a high level of stupid that I feel she is fair game in here.

We generally try to avoid federal politics but non-party stuff like this is ok for now. Plus it's about Vegas specifically which is completely related to this forum.

Well $hit... The mayor of las vegas just set us all back at least 45 more days with her interview. Looks like a lot of tribal poker trips for all of us...

UNREAL.

Not knowing much about local Vegas politics, my first thought was how in the hell did this numnutz ever get elected.

Then noticed her last name. Her husband was mayor from 2000-2011, then she succeeded him and has been mayor since. What could possibly go wrong?

Questions to local.... was this just a bad day for her or is this lack of intelligence pretty much what you all have been dealing with for the past 9 years?

She should resign immediately. That was disgraceful, the woman was utterly clueless and heartless. How the hell did she ever get elected there? Because of Oscar? Wow the residents of Las Vegas must be so embarrassed after watching their mayor look like a complete idiot.

The amount of the town she actually oversees is really small. It's basically just downtown and some of the north. She can't even re-open the strip because the casinos and people who live near here are not part of her mayorship. We are incorporated and governed by the Clark County Commission. She doesn't even control the airport or UNLV.

Oscar (her husband) was pretty popular, but he didn't really do anything of interest. He was an old Mob lawyer and just a likeable person.

She has done some positive things regarding homelessness and she did get a sports team here. From what I'm reading on more local type message boards people actually support her crazy statements, only because they're all out of work due to the casinos. Or are degens and want to gamble.

It's not the full interview. Missing the last 4 or 5 minutes when she claims she doesn't gamble anymore or something when Anderson asked her if she will go on the gaming floor every night to support everyone since she wants the casinos opened right now. Just wow.

I was hoping the new convention center would be viable for this Summer's WSOP prior to the Covid stuff. Unfortunately, it wasn't ready, or maybe there was something else that caused them to extend at the Rio one more year. In any case, it would be sweet if they do end up holding some major series at the convention center in the Fall. So much more convenient for travelers, though I know locals might prefer the Rio, if only for the parking.

It seems possible that she's pretty likable as well. Unfortunately, she also seems way out of her depth, and very misguided. Whether that's because she doesn't know better and is just listening to all the business people bending her ear, or because she know better and is intentionally putting business interest ahead of safety, I'm not sure. Sounds like the former, fed be a belief that nothing should have shut down at all because they're so clean and they survived everything else without shutting down, but the latter is certainly possible.

I guess this shouldn't be a surprise; she's been beating this drum from the get-go:

https://www.rgj.com/story/news/2020/...wn/2867280001/

Good thing she's not mayor of Paradise as well - not sure who's in charge of unincorporated towns (the county?), but as you mention, that's where the Strip and airport fall into.

Edit to add: Just noticed you said the county is in charge; that makes sense. Although I assume you actually meant unincorporated?
