Does Whining About Political Correctness in a Racism Debate Correlate to Being a Racist? Does Whining About Political Correctness in a Racism Debate Correlate to Being a Racist?

Serious question: How is using "gay" as an insult worse than using "******"? In my book they are extremely similar.
09-28-2014 , 02:18 AM
Yeah, that was pretty much the point. Whereas I assume by "they" you mean "using either as an insult"
09-28-2014 , 02:23 AM
So are you as perturbed by Fly frequently calling folks ******s, or do you feel much more strongly about LV using gay as an insult?

No I wouldn't think he's a coward if he wants to play with ponies. I'd just think he's fkn gay.

I don't know how serious you were here, but someone saying this to spank is just too good

Can someone explain what happened in the last 2 pages?

I just wanted to ensure there wasn't a triple agent reverse double troll thing going on that I wasn't aware of.

You're completely delusional.
Lol. Yes, there is always some ambiguity. Defensive is a psychology word. What he is specifically doing is called deflection.

I am actually not at all sure why people keep calling Fly a big meanie. On first glance, yes, that makes sense. It even took me a couple of posts. He is hysterical. Like one of those wind up monkeys with the cymbals.

Ehh. While I've been on the uncomfortable end of Fly's antics, I don't doubt his sincerity or intelligence. While some of you view him as an "*******", I'd view it more as passionate about his beliefs.

When he calls someone a racist, that person has usually said at least some borderline racist ****.

Sometimes things don't really come off well over the internet. I believe he's called me a racist (Venus Williams thread), but I think that may be due to me saying things that could be considered racist because I'm using it in the wrong context or with the wrong audience and it just didn't translate well. Or, maybe sometimes I'm just flat out guilty of saying something racist and not realizing it.

He's got balls for putting his opinion out there at least. Most people just don't even get involved because they don't want to get pulled into the ****storm, which can be fun at times, but then sometimes it's like bashing your head against the wall.

Personally, I think he's an asset to the forums. I know many of you will probably dislike my stance, but it's the truth and I'm not worried about my popularity ratings. That tanked years ago.

Even back in the day, there was a differentiation between acting like a fruit loop on occasion and making a career out of it.

In case anyone is wondering, that was not a quote of Foucault. Foucault was a git.

Just to be perfectly clear Brian, you claim to be some sort of professional in the field of mental health? Because I have some serious concerns about your reads.

It's important that you never seriously consider that it might be you.

I'm not the one tossing around DSM diagnoses.

Once upon a time I was. I left the profession because it isn't particularly enjoyable work.

I'd just like to point out that those who are saying FlyWf is (a) mentally ill and (b) is an a-hole are guilty of stigmatizing and making fun of those with mental illness.

Ouch !!!1!

Ok if you meant concerned about the general practice of doing diagnosis from forum based reads then my bad. Sorry.

I have concerns like that as well but I know even less about that than I do about the civil war.

Most of the time when you describe a person with a personality disorder, you are describing someone most people would describe as an *******. It is part of the diagnosis.

Foucault would have fits regarding personality disorders.

and there was me thinking I'd already pointed that out. In my own subtle way of course.

I am not entirely sure that personality disorders ought be psychiatric diagnoses. It is medicalization of someone's personality. Kind of like calling laziness a medical problem.

You know how I like to be ludicrously ill-informed and opinionated on these things but only when its general so I'll keep out of it here.

making a direct comparison between bruce and fly, fly took the vicious, personal attack in stride and the other person went crazy. the other person could learn something from that.

Sooooo Fly > Bruce? If you wanted a better reaction you should have enlisted ikes.

I hope he has learned some things, I have. The difference was touched on by Brian earlier. Bruce actually is a good, caring person, and he was highly offended at being called a racist. Fly actually is a terrible, sociopathic ahole, and doesn't care if people know it. Bruce has a lot to lose, and Fly has nothing.
