What he found is that making an ego-syntonic claim about someone doesn't cause them any distress.

Ouch !!!1!
Or Fly is getting a dose of the 'medicine' he puts out in this regard. It's not like anyone has said he should be 'broken' or forced into a 'meltdown'.

You are correct in the end and we should not enable people to behave in such a manner.

Yep, I quit bull****ting in PU months ago.

Once MLK got popularly mocked around the forums, I knew I could never go back to bull****ting.

Look at them trotting out the hypocritical use of the word racist some more.

Look at the wannabe fakers repeating the half- reasoned, overly- emotional opinion BruceZ is a racist.

Willfully ignorant and taking delight in it. All while giving a bad name to the civil rights movement.

It's a bit lacking

What should I actually do when Fly accuses me of being a racist.

Get indignant and threaten to ban him and delete his accusations.

Sorry, I meant to say you're a sociopathic idiot, foldn, thanks for reminding me

if you don't care what fly thinks, then who cares what he calls you?

in all honesty, these events and threads have made me aware that i'm a little more racist than i thought. not in terms of deep beliefs, but in practice sometimes.

Ask him if that's what MLK would do.

That's good. I have racist thoughts all the time, it's becoming aware of that and doing something about it that separates good people from bad.

That would be more clever. Not really super creative though.

"Read a pamphlet while in the waiting room for his appointment" would be excellent, I think.

Bruce may have had a deeper stack, but he played his hand in a way designed to lose the maximum.

First, being a racist isn't something a person 'is' in their secret inner heart, it's something a person does.

In the context of an English interwebs forum that something is posts that, perhaps unknowingly, support white supremacy, or posts that claim actions, again perhaps unknowingly, that support white supremacy.

So what you should do is call them on it, and ask the accuser to show his work. Then it's up to the accuser to present a coherent case... and it's not on the falsely accused to prove a negative, or disprove some vague innuendo.

That's exactly how it went down when the odious General Tsao accused me of being a racist. I lol'ed at him and asked him to show his work. He prated some nonsense. I asked for a cite on his nonsense. He couldn't produce any such cite, of course, and just repeated his nonsense... which since this was in Alta Politardia earned him a short temp-ban.

Why has the robust intellectual debate been moved into here? This is Unchained. Robust intellectual debate belongs in SMP.

Agreed, so I ignored it

Now suppose it's a more concerted attack and is making a difference to my interactions with people. Now what should I do?

If you are new, you don't realize that no one else takes him seriously.

That is the important bit. There is a decent amount of research about people being blind to their racial biases.
