I find racial crime arguments like "what about black on black crime" to be rather racist and nonsense. The implication is that people's skin color is a factor in these crimes and this draws a false equivalency to violence and harm caused by or for racism. There was a Vox article about this topic earlier this week which was informative on the topic.

I don't want you to. If a person is called a racist, then he made a racist post(s); if he made a racist post(s), then you should ban him; therefore, anybody you call a racist you should ban.

So what I want you to do is ban all the people you have called a racist or those who through your implied consent you allow other posters to call racists.

You mean he wants to be a prick and false accuser without getting a response with equal power of assertion?

ok

Banning people for saying things you don't like in forums you don't moderate is obviously the next logical step.

He got called racist for his work in Alta.
04-11-2015 , 02:08 PM
Except that that's not why you banned him. You banned him because of what he just posted. Surely you're self-aware enough to know that.
04-11-2015 , 02:12 PM
Which referred to banning people for work in Alta. Plus, any mod can administer self-bans.

Wookie must just be having a bit of fun.

You are suggesting that accusation should equal a verdict and consequence without dispassionate, thoughtful investigation.

The thread that keeps on giving!

So if I say "I take it you mean that putting a stop to anything you perceive as racist ******** is far more important than engagement and if that means exploiting some confusion over words then that's a good thing" you tell me if that's correct or where it sounds wrong as well as doing the same about what you think I mean.

Let me say that I am actually reasonably sympathetic to the opinions expressed here regarding the" racist" vs. "racist post" debate. And there's a good reason for that: I'm a card carriyng "PC extortionist." I also have a deep love of the ironic, and so I do want to remind you of the man we are here in this thread to celebrate. Hey, remember when bruce promised to come give the "children" here an "important lesson" about the "insidious harm caused to our society by the PC thought police" by unleashing an all-star team of unnamed, sexless genuises to the politics forum? Whatever happened to that?

Weel, ITT I learn* that the dangers of PC language are only present when talking about blacks, mexicans, women and gays. When it comes to angry, racist white guys we naturally have to walk on semantic eggshells. Why, those guys are our most vital, sensitive and persecuted citizens! If we say something too harsh that might run just away like the self-assured, manly men they are. Then we have no chance to ever learn anything!

*Just kidding, I already knew this

In case you have a genuine interest, the quote of mine was nothing to do with the rest of your post.

My preference is a for a more PC politics forum though I recognise that would probably require a lot more moding and I don't object to people being called racist.

ITT, we learn metaname2 is a MissileDog gimmick.

Sorry if I misunderstood you, my reading comprehension is iffy in the best of times, and I trying to catch up on a bunch of posts.

No gimmick, Alex. I'm just a simple man with an increasingly vague sense that slavery is wrong.

Not sure I fully understand this post either, but I wasn't joking at all.

Sweet! I have high hopes that you'll eventually realize that it is indeed wrong. Then maybe you can join us in fighting against the Demopublicorporations that are trying to enslave us all!
04-11-2015 , 03:03 PM
Well, I'm never filling out a Census form ever again, I'll tell you what.

Txs. No problem.

There wasn't much about being PC, we've had a few threads if you want to read about it but when I talk of engagement it doesn't mean for non-PC. I was specifically talking about engaging with wookie but beyond PC it applies generally.

I believe this can only be read as a concession that chezlaw can't answer my questions without betraying hypocrisy.

Also, Wookie

Metaname, the "is slavery wrong?" running joke was something I thought would get shot down way quicker, it's honestly incredible how poorly the SMP team is at PR/image management.

You know full well that you have no interest in engaging with me.
