Oh, that's not at all what I mean; goodness knows academics chimp out all the time, it's just that people with real-world accomplishments and a basic sense of perspective tend to get emotional about **** that actually matters.

Like, I'm trying to imagine someone with a distinguished publication record going ape**** because he's not allowed to mod a subforum that gets less traffic than the backgammon forum. Just not seeing it.

They're like those end-of-the-world cults. When the world doesn't end when it's supposed to, the guru claims it was because of the followers' intense prayer and commitment, making their belief in the cult even stronger. BruceZ hasn't returned, so they believe in him even more. I like the Fiasco: Resurrection idea too MD, it'll make a good sequel. Cognitive dissonance for the lols.

I believe have a good grip on most individual's viewpoints and posting styles who are most concerned with the matter. Putting it together tells a story and the forum-wide setting really puts the pressure on the settle it.

A real part that sticks for everyone, it seems to me, is reputation pressure. Everybody is trying to out-rep everybody else. I think there is a difference between how some people find it funny or not. It's that Jerry Springer effect, but we are more advanced than television, so I always have a door open to finding a simpler settlement that works all ways possible.
