She was actually really adamant about it, but I guess it comes without consequence. I recall her citing poker tables specifically, but the information above suggests that they will not offer that as soon as I thought. Who knows

The above article indicates the ORIGINAL plan was for a massive 100 table room. Since then the gaming commission released regulations limiting the number of overall tables per casino, such that 100 tables would not be a feasible allotment for poker. Though hopefully it won't stop parx from trying to have the largest poker room in the state.

This thread was started in December regarding parx (then known as Philadelphia Park Casino) and has a lot of discussion since that time.

Perhaps their ambition for a large room is slowing their progress?

You should have asked when they plan on petitioning the PGCB for this.

Boy.. especially being nearly in my backyard, that is so disappointing. I hope it changes rapidly. It would be an epic mistake these days to implement table games with no poker room. This isn't 1995. Poker is a huge draw still.

Slots are obv very -EV, but I do get some entertainment value out of them, particularly with a buzz on. I've been to Phila Park/Parx a few times, mostly stopping as i'm driving by or something to play for a little bit. With a poker room, i'd frequent there. Of course, mostly for poker, but i'd definitely play other stuff more as I like to change the monotony of poker live.

If they don't open a poker room, I will go out of my way to never go there again.

Maybe next year.

Quote:
Six months following the date of commencement of table game operations, the Category 1 or Category 2 table games certificate holder can increase the number of gaming tables upon approval by the Board. The certificate holder must petition the Board for the increase, at which time the Board shall take into account the appropriateness of the physical space where the gaming tables will be located, the convenience of the public attending the facility, and the potential benefit to the Commonwealth.

I called them yesterday and the lady I spoke with said mid July everything should be running, and there should be 80 tables

You have to be clear when talking to them that they know what "poker" you are talking about. Most don't understand the difference between a "texas hold em poker" table game and the non pit version.

I would love nothing more than it be true that the tables will be there but all signs are pointing to no at this point. Most damning being that they have not registered with the state to show intention of poker tables.

There has been lots of talk of it being a big room that most likely will be in the track building when they redo it.

Would be so nice if they just made a statement about what they are planning -.-

I can't reveal the source of my information - but it is very reliable. Parx is planning an amendment to their filing *before* opening the table games. Thus, being able to open poker tables (37 tables in the second building) in July along with the other table games.

It would be awesome if you're right but there has been absolutely no media, press releases, or PGCB filings to support this scenario. Also, I before their filing I did hear a rumor that the poker room would eventually be in the old building...which kind of sucks imo.

ok.. having a poker room would not suck no matter what..

..however, I want to see the poker room very close to the slots. There is an allure (thanks Television) to the novice to sit down to play when they see the room while banging TITOs of the slots.

Unless there is no room in the new building, I suppose the Casino doesn't want folks leaving their high return slots for the poker room.

My information is that there is no room in the new building, and that the poker room will indeed be in the old building. I hope that it works out well.

Just checked the PGCB site and still nothing new re: parx poker room. But I did find a proposed plan for Harrahs Chester - 25 tables on the simulcast floor with 9 plasma screens, bravo table management system. Due to open July 2010. I was just at Harrahs Chester a few days ago and they are definitely in full expansion mode for all table games. Soon, my friends, soon!

From: http://www.philly.com/philly/business/94047384.html on Tue, May. 18, 2010:

"Starting in September, the grandstand of the former Philadelphia Park Casino & Racetrack that sits next to Parx will host live poker games for players..."

For the record :

Harrahs will have table games Early July. This has been verified numerous times + I've asked every time I've went there and have received the same response.

Parx will have tables games July-August, HOWEVER, will not be hosting poker games from the get go. This will be introduced after the original table
games get settled.

I heard also from someone on Monday that Parx will open a 40 table poker room in September, and that a former manager at the Taj will be running the room.

Huge news, assuming this is Ari Mizrachi who is rumored to be the card room manager and not a fake account to cause us all misery : P

Very glad to see your presence here in B&M, it definitely shows that you are looking to run a good room and a customer service oriented model with the regular player in mind.

If you were unaware there are legions of players salivating for any information on poker at Parx and jumping on the tiniest scrap of rumor and hearsay. Personally I spend at least 5 minutes a day scouring the internet for any information on Parx poker.

I fully understand that saying things are going to happen while being organized is not possible, but any information you can give us about the coming poker room will be devoured. Even if it is only "likely". Especially on topics concerning, Room size, Rake/Time, BBJ, Room location (racetrack or new building), Games intended to be spread, & Comps.

Hopefully you can quickly establish your identity and get a post count up enough that you can receive and send PMs : )

Best of luck being "the" Philly area poker room, Harrahs will have the jump with the earlier open, but hopefully Parx can overcome that hurdle with a superior environment. Sugarhouse does not seem to have any solid intentions of being the premier room.

Maybe same guy, rethought using his personal identity and wanted a more "official" looking representation?

That occurred to me too, but then why did the opening date for the room suddenly jump 3 months earlier?

My read is Ari is legit and Parx poker manager is teasing us.
