PA House votes it in. Word is that Rendell will sign the bill this week.

http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/...-80845747.html

I have heard rumors that sites will be limited to 250 tables, which casts doubt on the idea that parx will introduce a 100 table poker room.

They are limited to 75 (30%) poker tables. However, they can have excess on hand for tournament use only. So its possible I guess....

Re: Philadelphia Park Casino planning massive 100 table Poker room!

Hey I was wondering what process they would go to hire dealers?

And is there any school that would have an 'in' with Parx for job placement?

Any info is appreciated guys!

Details on the mix have yet to be announced. But, the consensus is that it will be up and running in about 6 months. The good news, if you look at it this way, is that if they do not use 100 of the 250 max for poker, there is a very good chance that the poker room will end up being in the main (new) casino.... and NOT out with the dirtbags in the old racetrack!

This would certainly bring better games, with more touristy-fish-like players, not just a bunch of racing degens!!!!

In any case, WE'RE GETTING POKER!!!!

Please, please, please... don't let the state cronies **** this up!

Yes, we'll have to keep a close eye while the casino control commission sets the rules here and not let something dumb happen (i.e. Florida).

By the way, this thread is Parx, but I imagine Harrah's in Chester will also put together a poker room. Perhaps they'll host some WSOP-themed events? Man, I've seen some shady situations in AC, but I can't imagine what one would see when spending some time down in Chester...

This would be terrible...
I was hoping the go in the ways of allowing live straddles and letting cash play in live games.

I think the target date is to open this summer... I can't wait

It has passed the , and the House, The Gov will sign today or Friday. They expect to be ready in about 6 months.

Some have asked will there be more like A.C. No there are so many licenses for the whole state. I think all but two have been taken. Two went to Philly and I think two went to Pittsburgh. Then they are through out the state. Closes one to me would be just outside Harrisburg.

Re: Philadelphia Park Casino planning massive 100 table Poker room!

In the paper, Rendell noted the state will get 250 million a year for this. That is really not a lot of money given the size of the state budget. Will more than likely keep going to AC, unless something NICE is convenient. This is not convenient, since it is north of Philly a bit ( coming from MD )

I think that figure is just the projected state revenue for FY 2010 only. Since much of the time this year will be spent getting ready to turn on the table gaming, much of the revenue the state will see will be via licensing fees and the like, and not really from taxed table gaming revenue.

The state revenue in years after this once table gaming is turned on might be significantly higher.

First time seeing this thread. According to Google Map, I'll save me 45 minutes over Borgata. That's big. Parx may have a good thing going, I hope they're not going to **** it up.

This is fantastic news imo.

I wonder what the Sugarhouse will do to respond? I mean they only just broke ground really. Its only 6 blocks from my house!

its worth the trip to Borgata, btw it would be nice if Pokerstars managed to develop a relationship with phillypark. then maybe id show.
So, it will be a lot like the Taj

I'm guessing that it will attract a mix of players - again, especially if it is in the new casino building. If they do stick the poker room in the racetrack, it will be largely degens. Let's hope they come to their senses and do not sentence it to doom, by opening it in the racetrack.

Actually, the Borg will always be a great place to play. However, seeing as though Parx is 10 minutes from my house, it would have to be worse than the Taj (if that is even possible) for me to NOT play there.

I'll still always play only at the Borg, when I play in AC.

Re: Philadelphia Park Casino planning massive 100 table Poker room!

This may not be as big as they hoped. This was written well before the bill was passed. My understanding of the bill is that it limited to 250 table games per casino. I cannot see them having 100 poker table and only 150 tables for other games they will make more money for the state.

I Hope am wrong about this.

Most of the articles mention that there can be exceptions made to the 250 table cap for special events, such as tournaments. Thus, it is still somewhat feasible that we may see a decent, midsized poker room, with extra tables added for tourneys.

This could mean a 30 table poker room that can expand for a tournament. and 220 tables for blackjack 3 card poker and what not. A big difference than what the article is talking about. When I hear 100 table poker room I am thing Borgata type room.

Re: Philadelphia Park Casino planning massive 100 table Poker room!

I would have to guess that if you added up all the non-poker tables in a typical AC casino, the number would be around 100 total. Even if there were 150 - that still leaves plenty of room for 50-75 poker tables, with a margin of error.

I can't imagine the PA casino's will have many tables of 3-card poker, big wheel, tile pai-gow, etc. Mostly BJ, Craps & Roulette. A typical AC casino usually has only 25 max of each of these.

There will be more than enough poker tables. Filling them, will be the problem.

And, In AC only 2 rooms have more than 50 poker tables, the Borg & Taj. The rest are "also run" type rooms.

The drive will be 45 miles for me each way (as opposed to 75 miles to AC), so I'm hoping that this room will be a good one.

Re: Philadelphia Park Casino planning massive 100 table Poker room!

The Philly Inquirer reports 60-70 poker tables. I can't wait since I'm only 45 minutes away!
http://www.philly.com/inquirer/break.../80964402.html

Here's the relevant part:
"Now, it's action time," said Bob Green, chairman of Greenwood Gaming & Entertainment Inc., owner and operator of Pennsylvania's most profitable gambling hall, PhiladelphiaPark Casino & Racetrack in Bensalem.

Soon, the slots-only parlor will house about 120 conventional table games, such as craps, blackjack, and roulette, in the expanded PARX casino that debuted last month, as well as 60 to 70 poker tables in the grandstand area.

Green said he did not even wait for Rendell's signature to forge ahead. Within minutes of the bill's passage yesterday, he called his contractor and architect to draft a construction schedule, and he called equipment managers about the mix of table games he was interested in."

Re: Philadelphia Park Casino planning massive 100 table Poker room!

Well, if they do put the poker tables in the grandstand area of the racetrack, that will ensure that I won't play there. As mentioned above, it will be the PA Taj Mahal. Nothing but complete degenerates, broke old men reading racing forms and drinking warm beer out of plastic cups. FML!

Oh well, come on SugarHouse on Columbus Blvd. in Phila. Perhaps, that will draw a better clientel.

Looks like my trips to the Borg will not slow down until that place opens <sigh>.

Just how far is the grandstand area from the main new casino?

The new building is maybe 1000 feet away from the original one. It didn't look that far away when I was there a few months ago.
