what do you mean "return trip"? do they give you a pass when you get on to use again for the ride back?

Not sure what he meant, but the jitney is $2.25 for any distance, one way. You will have to pay again for a return trip.

I played at the Borgata for the first time the past couple days.

I got a hotel room at the Borgata on Kayak for $150 total, including taxes and fees. I could have easily stayed in Harrahs for $50 instead, but I thought I could treat myself right for a just $150.
I won't do that again as I played for most of my waking hours and spent all of 5 hours sleeping in my room.

I sat 3/6 limit for a little bit while I waited for a 1/2 NL to open up. In the lunchtime-early evening hours the game was decent, but as it got later, things got VERY wild. People were chasing down for huge bets, sometimes they hit and sometimes they didn't.
If someone were to flip their life and become nocturnal, they could probably make decent money playing in this game, with some crazy swings.
The room/staff/players were nice.

My complaints:
The dealers aren't always in control at the table. One of my pet peeves is the reluctance of the bettor to show BOTH of their cards. If there is a showdown, the dealer needs to enforce the rules. This is important because a lot of players hide info about their preflop play by not showing BOTH of their cards. It happened many times where the player showed a queen for the high pair, but not the other hole card. If they called a raise with Q9off, I want to know about that at the showdown. Some dealers enforce this and some do not. I should have talked to the floor manager, but I forgot. But they definitely need to enforce this rule. It happened WAY TOO MANY TIMES where a guy would show one card, opponent would much, and then winner would muck, and dealer said nothing.

The amount of time some players take to make a decision at the NL tables was very frustrating. I respect someone's right to think about their decision, but within reason. I waited for what seemed like FOREVER. Several times I went to the bathroom and came back (5 minutes) and nothing had happened. To be fair, it was the same couple of people pondering their hole cards, pondering their flop decisions, etc. Some of the time, they weren't even facing a big bet and they drastically reduced the number of hands/hr that we could have played. I wouldn't mind a 30 second time limit.

There are several dining options close to the Poker Room depending on your budget.

If someone just shows a queen, for top pair, and you just have second or third pair, just table your hand. If the other player shows one card, and then mucks, you win the pot.

I'm sorry, I should have been more clear. I wasn't involved in any of the pots I was talking about. When I'm in there, I just sit there waiting for them to show their cards and don't move/respond until they do.
But if you're not involved in many hands and want to get a feel for how your opponents play, it would be better if the rules were followed regarding showdowns, that's all.

At the showdown the bettor would ask the caller 'do you have a queen', 'what's your kicker', etc, and then try to show just one card to take the pot. The whole process was annoying.

But your idea is a good one... I might try to do that next time and then make a fuss.

Am surprised by this since I've always seen the dealers instruct "have to show both". However, if the opponent mucks before the dealer makes that instruction then its not really the dealer's fault.

Keep in mind that, whether you're in the hand or not, you still have the right to ask the dealer to show you his 2nd card (and they will).

Interesting. I've played at Borgata countless number of times and I've never seen someone get away with winning a pot at showdown with just one card. Dealer always made them show both when they tried it.

Is it allowed to get chips at the cage and then go find your own seat at one of the tables to sit down? Or does one have to put themselves on the list in order to get into a game at Borgata? I always go to the person to ask for the game and they usually put me in w/e seat they have available. And if i want a table change, i can just go and sit at another table without asking right? The reason why i ask this is of all the times i played live back a few years ago recreationally, i almost never requested a table change b/c I didn't know the etiquette for it

Also, there was some rule where you have to buy chips in $20 dominations? Like you can't buy $350 at cage or some weird amount and it has to be 200, 220, 240, 260 and 280 etc? Is that still in effect?

Table changes have to be approver by the floor. If you buy chip denominations under $100 they have to be sold in sleeves of 20

So if i want a table change, i would just get up from my table but leave my chips there and ask floor manager for table change and then take my chips from the table? What if there isn't any available seats? Would it be fine if i just get up from my seat with chips and just wait or would i need to put myself on the waitlist again? I'm curious how this would work. I don't plan on doing this but might plan to do this in the future but want to know the process.

Hey everyone,

I'm heading to the Borgata this Saturday for a one night stay (I'm a Jew) and from reading the posts from last year, it appears the poker room still gets action on xmas eve and xmas day. I've been to the Borgata once, but it was a few years ago. Like I said, it doesn't seem like I will have trouble finding a game, but I was wondering what everyone thinks the action will be like at 1/2 NLHE? Lots of fish? Nit regulars?

Also, aside from the poker room, any recommendations on places to watch Football (no blackcard)? How about spots to eat that are moderate in price (e.g., 15-20 per person)?

Thanks in advance everyone and happy holidays.

I played 1/2 for almost two days straight this past weekend. I didn't see many Nit regulars in those games, maybe they play higher NL or play limit.
Wild and crazy action at times, especially late into the night. It is easily possible to get top pair/kicker or top set cracked by chasing draws and lose your stack. From what I saw, some college kids were more likely to play like a Nit than the regulars who lose $200 on a single hand every hour, and then rebuy.
I'm not sure what it would be like xmas eve/day and how the holiday affects activity there.

There is a cafeteria just around the corner and down the escalator with food court style places.

I'm not sure why you mentioned that you are a Jew.

The hotel is nice. You can't compare it to places like The Bellagio or Venetian though; when I walked into those places I was in complete awe.

Planning on coming down on Tuesday. Wanted to try the 10/20 H/L game for the first time. What is the average stack usually in those games? Would I be putting myself at a huge risk with 500-600 or should that be enough? Thanks!

500 is a normal buy-in, but I would have more in reserve (especially since kill pots take it to 15-30). For taking a shot though, it's fine - I'd feel more comfortable with 800-1k on me ( but what you actually buy in for is pretty irrelevant since it's limit).

No straddles allowed anywhere in Atlantic City. Only a blind raise.
