I was wondering what that was. That is clearly on their land, so you know they don't think it will hurt their business overall. Will they be the owners?

Insert jopke here (the guests better hope not! ba-da-bum!).

They have to think it will help their business. There are so many of that type hotel in better locations for business travelers. OTOH, now that I think about it a bit more, they do have a new office park nearby, maybe it's mainly for that.

ETA: And the new ball park, too.

Don't like football pools cause I grind during the day mostly... But promotions don't matter to me much!!

Second $1 at $30. Room's still crowded, they'll never lower it, imo.

Congrats to "Southwest Poker News" for their writeup of the AZ State Champ, that was a terrific article. I wish it didn't take so long to read about it, but after reading last year's writeup, I knew SWPN would get it done and do it right even if it would take a month or so.

I have no affiliation with them, just an interested fan and player. Well done Chris Cronin and staff. Superb monthly newspaper.

P.S. You are one lucky winner, Packy!

P.P.S. You can't win a huge poker tournament without a TON of rungood obv.

Does money matter? The casino is ripping you off every freakin pot u win! My solution is to not play cash and stick to tourneys... of course, it helps that my cash game sucks a lot worse than my tourney game does... no temptation to contribute to the BBJ, ever.

Pro Tip: Cash games are less of a ripoff and much more likely for a long term profit than tourneys.

Understood, pope. I like the risk/reward scenario for tourneys vs. cash. I like the fact I don't have to tip the dealers every pot in tourneys. I like the drama as the tourney get later and later versus cash which is obv a flat line, emotionally speaking. Lose stack? Reload and carry on. Boooring.

I guess ultimately, it's the fact I play for fun and enjoyment rather than to "make money" which makes tourneys more appealing to me. Of course I like to win money, who doesn't... but it's not my ultimate goal, believe it or not. I like competition and I find tourneys more suitable as a competitive environment than a cash game.

And those are all very very good reasons to play tourneys over cash games. As long as you understand what you wrote, there is no reason for you to do otherwise.

And I enjoy mocking the tournament players relentlessly as they try to chop 15 ways.

And then they all think they are god's gift to poker.

But since in a non-chopped tourney, only one person isn't disappointed, so chopping is +happiness EV for sure.

A tourney story!

Years ago I played a FtMcdowell tourney. We get to 10 handed w/ me 2nd in chips, everyone else is 'yay!, chop' I'm 'lol,no', TD says 'you don't understand. We chop the final table.' Me: 'According to the chips?' TD 'evenly' Me: 'you mother ****ing, **** sucking ******* why don't you say that before the tourney? I'm playing to win and I could've busted instead of taking a nap into the final 10. TD 'that's the way we do it' Me: '**** you.'

So now The Fort has cut their poker room's size by ~65%. ****ers.

Lies lies lies, all lies.

We only chopped it 5 ways (evenly obv) on Tues nite.

Thinly veiled brag.

And for those who follow the rantings and ravings of the guy who quit poker after Black Friday/Tax Day (i.e. me obv)... I hope that gives you a chuckle.

I have no idea what they did last night cause I busted out just short of the money... but yeah I bet they chopped it even steven.

I had a very slight chiplead with 240K but all stacks were 200K+ and blinds were 15K/30K five-handed... lol luckaments.

At the time it was standard w/ all of the regs knowing about it. I hardly played there at all since they lost their higher limit games and that's why it's always a good idea to ask about the rules when visiting a new room. HOWEVER, who the **** would ever think that the rules state 'even chop once we get to 10 handed'? ****ers.

Not directly of course (well, I dunno about that particular situation), but I've heard a certain CAZ TD which will obv remain nameless intoning "time is your enemy, players" as the final table dragged on and on and on... does the TD want to get home early or what? That comment surprised me a bit at the time, although it was certainly sage advice in some sense... but who asked him for any advice?

Did they have a payout schedule saying how much each spot got paid? I would think you would have tried to see that before you got to the final table.
If it showed different payoffs for places at the final table, then that would definately have been false advertising.

Generally this is of course the best advice but, tbh, I don't bother checking out the payoffs in $60 tourneys. I expect them to be at least w/i the ball-park of each other. But it was years ago and I only played it on a whim.

How's this for another Ft McDowell rule (that I don't know if they still have)?

I was playing 3-6 while mom was blowing her money at the Wheel of Fortune slot machine and somebody has to post a kill. There are 2 players raising each other and I notice that they haven't gotten back to the kill poster yet so I say 'Hold up' to the dealer and point it out. He tells me that kill poster gets last action. I say 'you mean 2 players can raise each other all-in before kill poster acts and maybe he has AA and how are they supposed to know?' answer 'yes'.

LOL it's Fort McDowell. Who cares.

Also, has anyone heard for sure that the BBJ drop is staying at $2 permanently? It used to be a seasonal thing where sometimes it would be $2/hand and sometimes $1/hand.

As far as I can recall CAZ raked $4 + $1 during 'the season' and switched to $3 + $2 during the summer in order to maintain the BBJ fund. That was reasonable, imo. Since the new room opened the BBJ drop went to $2 except for a week when they lowered it to $1 for some reason. It's been at $2 for so long that I don't think they will ever lower it again.

the 2/3 omaha game was lively today. I got ~500 in preflop as a 2:1 fav. Not sure why more people don't play that game.
