I just moved to area and unfortunately sold my car and just flew out. I am starting work on June 1st so just waiting til then to purchase a vehicle. My question is if I bus'ed it to Shea/101 is that walking distance to CAZ? Or would it at least be a relatively cheap cab ride? I live off cactus/51 and seems like it would be a pretty expensive cab ride from there.

Shea/101 to CAZ would be a brisk 30-40 minute walk. And it's about to get really hot. Cab shouldn't be too much from there.

Yeah, the winter would be ok, full summer out of the question, but I'm not sure there's even a contiguous sidewalk which would make him walk in the street so I wouldn't bother.

I like to walk, but I wouldn't want to do that even during the winter. It would be about 4 miles each way, and probably farther if you don't want to walk right on the shoulder of the 101.

I didn't like walking from the parking garage to the casino.

Seriously, Shea would be a pretty far walk.

if you can't take a cab from 101/shea to the casino...you probably shouldn't be going to the casino at all.

don't you have any friends that would drop you off and then if you win you cab it home...if you lose you cab to 101/shea and then bus it home?

I've never taken a bus since I moved to Metro Phoenix but I think they're a pita as far as schedule/frequency goes. If the fellow above expects to just hop on a bus he's going to find out it doesn't work that way. I expect that you have to have their schedule down or just stand there like a yo-yo for however long.

I don't know Phoenix buses but my experience in nothern Va (last time I considered regular busing) says that even if you know their schedule you'll often be standing there in the rain (or in this case in the sun) for a while.

Cab is the only way to go until you get a car IMO.

If its only 4 miles, why not get a bicycle?

Not a bad thought. Is there a secure place to leave your bike at Talking Stick? Haven't seen it, but I drive from Tucson so never looked.

Yes, they have bikeracks near the pokerroom entrance. Only reason I know is cause a very well known regular rides his bike home every evening.

He has had a bike stolen before though. Plus, you would have to be able to take your bike on the bus, which might not be allowed, and definitely would be a PITA.

They have bike racks on the front of the buses.

I believe the closest bus stop is Hayden and Indian Bend. I have done this before. I believe it's about 2.5 miles but at least there's a sidewalk.

I can afford the cab just was unsure of distance and thought would be stupid to call/pay cab if it was a 10 minute walk. I've spent the last week taking buses various directions to just kinda get my bearings around here and it is surprisingly easy(had never really rode bus before). There is some waiting if you have to transfer but buses are at most 30 minutes apart and busy routes appear to be 15.

Yes, I could just have my brother take me on a weekend but I spend most days just sitting around or walking around(now bussing as its getting hotter). It's good to know its a viable option when I get bored on random weekday though. They do have bike racks on bus so looking into that but will probably take the bus to Shea and cab it sometime this week as I am running out of Netflix to watch.

It's easier just to live in the casino.

Is there a thread that has the current tournaments listed by date in here somewhere?

Just fyi I deleted the posts regarding another potential casino in the area; those posts should go in the Poker Legislation Forum if the casino is not certain to be built or if it does not have poker. If it's certain to be built and might have poker, you can discuss it in a HYPE thread in the main B&M Forum or in the appropriate Regional Communities sobforum thread. PM me or post in the mod discussion thread if you have any questions.

The juice in that tournament is absurd but the field is big and soft. I play it once or twice a year.

I will not be playing this weekend as I will be in Las Vegas. If I wasn't in Las Vegas, I think I'd be at the Twin Arrows grand opening.

If you don't want to wait in a long line or be an alternate, get there an hour early and play some cash after buying into tourney.

Does anyone know if they will be running warmup tournaments for the state championship like they did last year?
They were nicely structured tournaments for the value
