to be fair, 33BB online is like 100BB live (at least in texas/loose games). Where standard open is ~$45 IP at 1/3 over 3-5 limps instead of $15.

but yeah deepstack ftw

they used to run those CAP games on Stars and Tilt back in the day. not sure if they still do...haven't seen them anywhere else?

they were 30bb buy in limits. weird info to retain, but I believe Jeremy Ausmus was about the best CAP player before he moved to mtts - knowing how to navigate 30bb stacks is certainly a huge advantage in tournaments

Yeah I remember those. They also had deep stack tables.

My particular niche was the full tilt 100 and 200 nl deep 6 max tables. Deep was only 200bb

I remember the deep no blind increase heads up sit n gos. One dude would sit in his trap and wait for someone to accidentally register then time down every decision for hours until the person either quit or started shoving every hand.

I think I know who complained to CAZ management and raised the 20 bb minbuy @3/5.

20bb min-buy in live poker is pretty absurd but I suppose not as absurd as running spread-limit games.

in London the main game at most poker rooms is 1/2 40-400 buy in but you can always match the biggest stack.

So it's not at all rare to be sat at a table with 3 or 4 stacks of 500bb + and then some filthy short stacking scum with 15-30bb who can actually have quite a big impact in terms of re-opening betting

My underground games usually started with a minimum 50bb buy-in. But if you busted could buy in for a lower amount (was I think $100 in 1/3 and $200 in 2/5 - might have been $100 in each). So late at night usually had a few big stacks and 1-3 min stacks.

Have to say overall it was +EV for me as the guys buying that low were pretty bad and most could be counted on to rebuy 7-8 times.

Took me a while to adjust to spread limit after we moved to Arizona. I made a bad judgement when we were looking at Tucson as a possible next location -there was a movement in the state in at the time to set up strip NL poker rooms (kind of like in Texas now). There was a guy who was spreading 5-10 games fairly close to the house we bought. But by the time we actually moved the NL games had been shut down and it was all 1-2 games with a $200 max bet in the local Indian Casino. Now at least the spread here is up to now $680 per bet with a $1500 max buy in the 2-5 games. So there is still some money to be made

$200 max bet isn't too too bad for 1/2 spread limit, but for the most part I've not been a fan of the spread limit games I've played.

1/2-100 wasn't bad, as long as stacks weren't really deep. 2/5-100 sucked, and I can see why it didn't run very often.

This is definitely true in Minnesota, and I'm haven't played irl in quite a while, but 2/5-100 would run regularly and the 'pros' would slum the 1/2 while waiting and try to run everyone over because they were used to getting stacks in. It was fun letting them hang themselves.

When did Minnesota go to $100 max bet? Last time I played there it was $60, which was really annoying even at 1/2.

They were at 100max as long as I'd been playing...so it must have gone into effect around 8-9 years ago? My window was about 2 years playing live regularly in a card room.

jesus, playing at a table surrounded by fatties and with a $60 or $100 max bet...

really glad i'm able to effectively skip the 1-2 stage of my life and gives me super incentive to play higher, even if out of practice and just for the lols

I was in a Hippodrome £1/2 game at 4am when somebody turns up wanting to play the biggest game possible and has over 20k in chips. We tried to turn the game into a 1/2 deep or 2/5 to get around the buyin limit (50% of max stack at Hippo which meant he could sit with roughly £750 iirc) and one old rec refused to change the game, despite the fact it would have absolutely no bearing on his ~£50 stack. Since then, said fun player moved over to the PLO games and was by all accounts one of the biggest spots whenever he played and was content to dump thousands per night, at least a few nights per week.

The worst part of this was that there were 2/3 other normal 1/2 games with seats available that the rec could have moved over to if he didn't want to play higher stakes.

Huh. I must have been at the tail end of it, then. Do they still run those NL cash game "tournaments?"
