The partner banging the wife is completely fine if he hadn't been nailing her before the apocalypse. One month is a really long time in zombieland and it is completely unreasonable to impose non-zombieland standards regarding mourning periods. However I'm guessing that they were having an affair, didn't see any hints other than the partner being interested in how the marriage was going, but it's not like he was out of line asking about it or anything. It would just make more interesting TV if they were having an affair beforehand. And I doubt we'll find out next episode one way or the other.

The time line has to be 3+ months because of the wound healing, imo. He was still badly injured when the man and son found him, and he was healed when they finally left the house.

I don't think they were having an affair, I think she loved/s Friendly.

- she takes all the family photos
- she keeps relationship a secret from other survivors
- she removes wedding ring to have sex (but continues to carry it otherwise)

By the way, I will add that while I don't think they were having an affair, I do believe hammy actor partner dude was lusting after his partner's wife for a long time. IIRC partner brings up wife at the beginning of s1e1 and prods him for details of any marital difficulty.

Also, I think we're clearly supposed to think partner guy is a dick. Like I posted last night, his sneaking up on the woman in the woods was absurd.

this, was super irritated by that, just bad writing imo--even if he's joking around (an already untenable premise, at least in that fashion), does he really want to risk a loud scream alerting zombies?

and good to see all of the discussion re: the time period for shagging--I was surprised because I'm in the camp of people thinking the the context of zomebiewonderland changes everything

One more thing on the relationship between partner and wife.

I posted after the premiere that I saw it coming as soon as the main character woke up in the hospital and it became clear his family would think he was dead, because that's usually what happens in stories like this.

However as I try to think of which movies/books/series made me expect it, I can oddly only come up with one (Pearl Harbor) -- which is weird cause I'm sure I've seen the same set-up more than a few times. Especially there's a war novel, that I read years and years ago, but I can't remember which one, and it's bothering me.

Not to mention accidentally getting shot or something when somebody mistakes you for a zombie.

I get the feeling in zombie land sneaking up on somebody alone in the woods for a fun scare doesn't have the same appeal.

</nit>

I just hope they don't turn all the characters into cartoons. Alot of zombie movies rely on conflicts between the survivors, and that's fine, but the conflicts usually arise from real disagreements and you can see why the people in the situations would act that way.

The redneck villian on the roof is basically a cartoon character, who's supposed to be as vile and repulsive as possible.

Contrast that with the original night of the living dead, where there was legit conflict between the survivors in the house and you buy that these are real people with real motivations, highly stressed out and on edge.

Looks like 4.7M watched the 2nd episode so unsurprisingly the show has been renewed for a 13 episode 2nd season.
The Walking Dead Quote

Is that confirmed by the network?

The producer was claiming it got a second season renewed the other day but the network said they had yet to finalise that decision.

(not that i expect it to fail to get a second season)

Looks official, I'd bank on a 3rd season too.

YOU DON'T GET TO BITCH ABOUT OVERACTING IN ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE TV SHOWS

i hope this gets renewed for 21 seasons

The scene of destroying zombie body/walking down the streets with zombies was pretty incredible.

My only concern is that the racist/scumbag white-trash guy might not make it, he seems like he'd be an expert zombie slayer. But I'm sure he'll be back and as racist/violent as ever.

also why are people surprised that Friendly's sloot wife is bangin it out with his partner? It's a zombie show, where bitches ain't **** but hos and tricks
The Walking Dead Quote

Guys, I'm fairly concerned with Friendly's partner going forward:

As expressed in the beginning of the first episode, he had marital problems of his own and seemed almost overly-interested in sharing with Friendly and listening to his response as they calmly sat on patrol on what seemed like a normal day. What's going on in Friendly's mind as he looks for his wife? How conflicted and pained he must be. How is his partner living with the guilt of bedding his best pal and partner's lady just shortly after Friendly's death. These deep, emotional internal turmoils drive this show and will bring me back each week for more. If only they could find the sort of actors to really deliver the dramatic performances necessary for such a heart-wrenching tale.

Spoiler:
BUTNAHHHHHHHHHHHH, FRIENDLY'S BACKSTABBIN PARTNA GONNA GET ZOMBIEEEEEEEEEEEEED

Since this thread has been a Dallas Cowboys level of fail so far, let's talk about stuff that actually matters in zombie apocalypse stories:

Most likely to go next?

Blond chick's sister trying to save her
Skinny black chick who always looks angry
Crazy racist

I think are 1-2-3 in terms of likelihood of death

Crazy racist prob won't die tho, seems like decent outside shot

Fat black guy, Friendly, and Friendly's partner seem like locks to stick around at least a little while

Friendly's kid also a long shot to die, this is zombie genre after all

Some good people will die trying to save racist dude.

Racist dude will eventually die in an extremely gruesome and hideous fashion.

The racist dude really was poorly done, though, and I loved the episode.

I get that under the circumstances of high stress and everything people do weird ****, but this dude was like a cartoon character of ******* who apparently waited for the main character to show up(weeks after the outbreak!) to start acting out. Just sloppy characterization.
