I didnt think that the laundering process would involve Hank handing over cash then receiving cash back? (always thought cash would transformed to legit business income or something)

But it is next to washer and dryer, so I can understand the confusion.

Awesome; I'm glad you liked it. Yeah that last scene is a heart-breaker. But my favorite is still the basketball court. Holy crap -- the pan to the deflated ball, then to the shaking legs... so intense.

Yea, it is a chilling scene for sure, but Fresh expresses next to no emotion leaving the viewer a little perplexed.. then again the final scene wouldn't have been nearly as powerful as it was had he done so.

Thanks for recommending it.

He asked her if they really need to be special diapers for new borns (extra small I guess) and they were out of stock, which makes the lie ok imo. Having the Bartender handing him a beer with a "here you go" in the background isnt really that smart though.

This would be really stupid.
If he leaves now, Jesse will wake up, see his dead girlfriend rolled on her back and pulled a jimi hendrix. If the money is missing though, he will know there is more to it. So I am pretty sure, Walt will just tape up the door again and leave.

I'm having a hard time with the last scene. I guess I was hoping for a more hollywood style trajectory. I realize that the girl must die for business reasons. She is a lose end, if not today, then when her and Jessie run out of money or split up-- you can't trust a junkie.

But letting the chick die was unforgivable. He goes over there because, as someone above indicated, Walt realizes that Jessie is more than just his partner. And we almost demand this from him because Jessie is a lovable ****** in need of direction.

Instead Walt is presented with an opportunity to eliminate a threat for which there is no apologia, and he takes it. So he'll now leave with the hope that Jessie is actually much less his partner than before, but more his slave (I can control him/He'll do what I say)-- which Jessie was already willing to be if Walt could have finessed things differently.

The plotting ins and outs of take the money or not, re-tape the window or forget, father of the chick involvement, etc., all pale in comparison to a turn of his character that I'm having a hard time with. A ballsy turn in the story/character, but it leaves me a bit sour.

There. Got it off my chest. Still love the show.

Shemp,

I predict we will become horrified by many more of Walt's actions to come.
05-29-2009 , 05:03 PM
Yeah I think they named the show Breaking Bad for a reason
05-29-2009 , 06:19 PM
Shemp,
Were you not aware that he's supposed to become the new bad ass of the area? I've already read the spoiler link so I can't say too much, but Walt becoming a ruthless killer is inevitable.

Definitely and that it what is going to continue to make the show so freaking good. I hope the show wins the Emmy this year. It definitely deserves it.

Assuming you are referring to the series title (as opposed to e.g. the episode title), I think you are misinterpreting the title in a poker sense (e.g. "the cards are breaking bad")... as used in the title of the show "breaking bad" is street slang for "being a badass", or, in this specific case something more like "going from non-badass to badass".

you're right - I was thinking in terms of bad breaks - I guess I'm not street enough - I saw that "turning bad" theme in the show obv, but didn't realize the title was referencing it as well. Cool.

It's a fine line between anti-hero and pure villainy. I don't know where it is, but I'm afraid it doesn't work well as a permeable membrane! Somehow letting her die struck me as the absence of any code.

I only watch the show and have read most of this thread. Have no idea what might happen beyond my imagination based on what has been on the screen and the comments in here. I really/obviously enjoy it muchly.

I CAN'T WAIT FOR TOMORROW EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

OMG TOMORROW CAN'T COME SOON ENOUGH

I just need to remember to stay off this thread till I've seen it.

I gotta stop getting into shows in the middle of later seasons. Knocking out all the eps in short time then having to wait a week for the finale, THEN having to wait till next season with a cliffhanger is going to drive me up a freaking wall. I gotta wait till they're off the air or right when they start.

As perfect as this show is, one thing that bothers me is the criminal stupidity of Walt. Has he not ever watched a gangster flick?

Never trust a junkie; yet he keeps the money away from a dumb junkie who feels entitled to it, with obviously disastrous consequences. Cash payments draw suspicion; so when he finally gives the money to dumb junkie, he doesn't tell him to not travel with fat cash on him or buy big ticket items with the money?

It works for the show because Walt is clearly learning the criminal ropes, but some of this **** just seems too obvious for a genius (chemist) to not think about.

It's also a reference to breaking off bad behavior. The title embodies the duality of Walt's predicament. He has a desire to be a hardass and also needs to find a breaking point where he can stop his criminal and morally questionable activity.

And then he directs Remember The Titans. Rough artistic down slope.

My girlfriend is coming over and we're going to see the new Pixar movie Up. She's never seen Breaking Bad. I'm recording it on DVR. The test for me will be how long I can put it off before telling her... "OK, look, can you keep yourself busy for 44 minutes? Thanks."
