the pizza was amazing. i had to rewind and check for cgi. i can't help but wonder how many takes that took, or if there was some kind of rig used. one thing though, the pizza looked completely different from the top-of-roof shot than it did when it flew up there a few seconds before.

and yeah, i know they're making it up, but they're doing a great job with continuity. even with old man tio knowing walt's full name - tuco actually said it out loud with him in the room in the first ep of season 2, when he pulled out walt's driver's license and said like "i thought your name was heisenberg...walter white"

"we have discussed all there is to discuss!"
"....i have dipping sticks.....?"

So good!

Last week I was hard on the guy mentioning the angel of death metaphors. However this week was really heavy on vision metaphors, Walt is so oblivious to his effects on others that he doesn't even notice he has a broken windshield and the episode ends with walt in the shower with shampoo in his eyes unaware that their are two guys with an axe directly outside.

Vince Gilligan quote from Sepinwalls blog re: pizza
Quote:
Our special effects expert did indeed work up some mechanism for getting the pizza out of the box and onto the roof, using fishline or somesuch. However, to the best of my knowledge, his rig was never used. What you see in the finished episode is take one, in which Bryan basically just did a Hail Mary toss and got it up there in one try!

Ok... so I have a few questions...

I thought I was watching this closely but I guess I wasn't.

What was Walt doing at the house in the first place? He had a suitcase and a bag... was he just bringing Walt Jr's stuff back? I could of sworn that Walt Jr. had his bag in his hand when Walt had the pizza. It appeared Walt also had a key, cause he got right in. Then he didn't have the bags and was trying to get back into the house? All the windows were locked... I'm just just confused why he was even there and what went down.

Second, I think I have this right, but thought I would ask.

The guy checking out Walt's house and adding the wire is Saul's "clean up" man. Saul knows the pollos guy. So Clean up man sees the mexicans, calls Saul, Saul calls pollos guy, pollos guy backs them off?

I don't think Saul was involved - he called Gustavo's dude directly iirc.

walt was at the house to move his own stuff back in because he was pissed enough to make a move after skyler threatened a restraining order

walt had a key, yes, but it didn't work because skyler had the locks changed - that's why he had to go through under the house (don't know how you missed this). doing so got him very dirty, so he took a shower.

you are right that that was saul's clean up guy, but who it is he actually called is unclear - i imagine it was gus's mexican messenger (who was the guy that delivered the "38 pounds, 1 hour, 1.2 million, in or out" message to walt at the los pollos at the end of last season)

He just kind of got pissed and decided to move back to his own house.

Wire!

Jesse is the most underrated aspect of the show imo. More Jesse/Walt interactions plz.

I think Cranston may have just locked up his 3rd consecutive Emmy.

Great episode nonetheless

They shouldn't even bother having that award as long as this show is running. He's just been so far beyond next closest guy which gives me some faith in these award shows.

yea pretty awesome ep. The rest of this season should be great.

To be honest I think Jon Hamm is very deserving (his best work came in season 3) but it's super close. Along with Hugh Laurie and Michael C. Hall the best actor category is pretty stacked right now.
03-29-2010 , 05:21 PM
All Hugh Laurie has to do is limp around and act cranky.
03-29-2010 , 05:30 PM
Hugh Laurie makes a procedural watchable. That's gotta count for something.
03-29-2010 , 05:45 PM
Acting emmys are determined by one episode and I think it is unlikely that Cranston gives a better performance than Hamm did in The Gypsy and The Hobo.

Yes, I remember watching The Gypsy and The Hobo and thinking if he doesn't win for this he's never gonna win.

Did we know there was a connection between Saul/Winston Wolf and Pollo's dude before? I can't remember.

Saul originally told Walt and Jesse that he "knows a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy" when bringing up Gustavo the first time to them. It looks like this is that chain.
