That was fun to watch.

Well except for JJ and Durbin but what can ya do

I agree, we can't let JJ hurt us at the major league level while he is trying to figure it out.

Just have to fake a small injury to tell the press and have JJ go to AAA for some "rehab" games.

Yeah I was wondering myself what the breaking point with JJ is. I know they'll be stubborn and give him plenty of chances at the major league level to try and figure it out (a la Derek Lowe last year), but if June 1st rolls around and he's still this ineffective I'd have to think something will be done considering we have 2-3 guys that could replace him and be more effective if he continues to pitch like this.

Offense looks great. Our lineup is super deep when everyone is hitting to their career averages and not having the worst year/month of their career (like Heyward, Prado, and Uggla for awhile last year). Let's just hope we can stay consistent and keep scoring lots of runs.

Also what do you guys think about Pastornicky? He has been pretty bad offensively. Even though Jack Wilson is not nearly as good defensively as he was in his younger days, he's still an improvement on defense over Pastornicky. I'd think at some point if Pastornicky doesn't pick it up we'd be better off just starting Wilson at SS. I wonder when this point is (I'm thinking mid May?). I think they put Simmons in AA to leave a spot open in AAA if Pastornicky struggled and we had to send him down. We could call up Drew Sutton to be our backup SS/utility guy and start Wilson at SS while we try to find a SS on the trade market between then and the trade deadline. Thoughts?

Going to G Braves tonight, who are the upcoming stars on there?

It's a tough spot. They're waiting on two guys to develop at the same position. Yet, it's nice to have two guys developing at the same position. I could see a trade for a SS for one of our pitchers. Probably nothing major, just a stopgap until one of the others are ready.

Yeah this is along my same line of thinking as well. It's obviously the one position where pretty much no matter what it's going to be a bit of a black hole in our lineup, but assuming Pastornicky continues to play like this it's obviously a spot we could easily improve either internally (Jack Wilson) or via trade (and it wouldn't cost THAT much). If we weren't going to compete I really wouldn't mind just sticking with him and letting it ride out, but there is no reason we shouldn't look to have the best possible person out there that we can.

I think most likely we do nothing unless Pastornicky is truly abysmal. And then if Simmons is still producing in AA i have a feeling Wren and co. wouldn't have any problem calling him up judging by how close he was to winning the job in spring training and how they've jumped other prospects to the bigs.

If both are struggling then yea stopgap time.

Wilson should not be starting any games...like seriously.

Simmons is putting up a nice .265/.342 3 BB 5 SO 3 SB line so far in 8 games btw. yum

I'm curious why you think this. His defense is still pretty good (used to be elite; clearly better than Pastornickys) and offensively he's pretty bad, but it's not like Pastornicky is any better so far. I'd prefer NOT to have Jack Wilson start a bunch of games, but if the option is him for a month or two while we try and get someone before the deadline or Pastornicky (assuming he continues to struggle offensively) I'd pick Wilson in a heartbeat.

Below average range, slow release, okay arm strength. He's not going to KILL you out there defensively, but he's certainly below average. He's being replaced for defense late almost every game which isn't something you should be thrilled about if the guy also can't hit.

Also I'm not totally opposed to giving Simmons a shot, but the reality is if he's called up he'll probably struggle for a month and then we'll be right back in the same position we will be in if Pastornicky continues to struggle. Big problem, though, is the SS trade market is going to be pretty bare. I can't even think of a SS that any team would be willing to trade to us that would be enough of an improvement over Wilson/Pastornicky/Simmons to make giving up any pieces in a trade worthwhile.

Should be interesting to see what happens. I hope Pastornicky just starts hitting a little bit then it won't be such a huge deal. We just can't have a below average defensive SS hitting sub .200 and not upgrade at some point.

I dunno i just see it as starting Wilson has like no upside. Best he can put up is like 0-1 WAR..most likely -1 - 0 WAR.. because he is just that bad offensively. Once Pastornicky starts hitting like he's supposed to he'd be good for like 2-3 WAR probably. His ZIPS line still looks solid. And he will hit...all his peripherals so far are in line with his minor league numbers. Except for his BABIP obv..and a little uptick in Ks but not bad. He's been pretty unlucky so far.

Even if Pastornicky struggles and doesn't come close to meeting his expected numbers he'd still be more productive than Wilson would be. And even if Pastornicky was playing so bad that Wilson would actually be an improvement i'd still rather have Pastornicky in there because of the upside.

Like starting Constanza over Heyward when Heyward was sucking even though a sucky Heyward is still better than Constanza.
