Who will win the 2011 NL Rookie of the Year?

I'm okay with trading JJ if the idea is to rebuild the farm a bit and to use the salary saved for THIS team. If we take his salary off the books and just sit on it then I'm not a fan.

Really not a fan of trading Prado unless the return is super solid. Just think Chipper could realistically miss 40-50 games and don't want to watch some scrub playing 3B. I'm all for signing a LFer and moving Prado to the bench, but I just don't see the need to trade him at this point given our 3B situation.

Kimbrel or someone who doesn't deserve it.

Is there even 2 players at SS/OF that anyone would get excited about and won't cost > $10-15M in free agency?

The top 2 SS (Rollins, Reyes) FAs will probably both get more than we can afford, so we're looking at an AGonz type at around $4M imo.

The top OF FAs we could afford are probably Carlos Beltran, JD Drew, Grady Sizemore, and Maglio Ordonez, if they're willing to take cheap short-term deals. I'm not sure what the market is going to look like for these guys though.

I can't imagine us getting any better by trading Prado. Dealing Jurrjens gives us enough financial flexibility to go after one of the better FA OFs, so I'm fine with that.

my feelings exactly.

The recent talks were with the Royals in a deal that would send JJ/Prado for Cain/Myers

We would be gaining two young outfielders who could make an impact this year as well as for years to come.

Would also free up some salary to possibly make another improvement.

However... This does leave us week for 45-50 games at 3B and god forbid Chipper has a serious injury, could really hurt us.

So overall, not sure how I would feel about a trade like that.

maybe its just me, but he just doesn't seem like an impact player to me, kinda reminds me of a McLouth type.

Just read this from MLBtraderumors :

"The Braves plan to increase their payroll over 2011's $87MM Opening Day figure, sources tell Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com. Atlanta could bring back arbitration eligibles Jair Jurrjens, Martin Prado, Michael Bourn, Tommy Hanson and Eric O'Flaherty, and still be able to increase payroll, but "trading one or more of those players would enable them to spend more," according to Rosenthal. We've already seen the Braves try to trade Jurrjens and Prado, but a potential deal with the Royals fell through."

That is nice to hear

In addition, here is another link with some additional information

Yeah I know. But there aren't any "impact" OF FA available. All the guys mentioned are all on the downsides of their careers and/or injury prone.

I have no idea what Wren will do now that the KC trade fell through. Still not a fan of trading Prado, he's too valuable as a super-utility guy. I'm just hoping Wren doesn't overpay for a old, washed up FA.

Sounds like all of us are on the same page.

1.) JJ is expendable

2.) We want an impact player but don't want hole at 3B if Prado is traded.

3.) Ideal situation is to get 2 impact players, an OF and a SS while keeping Prado as a super utility that will likely get enough ABs that would still qualify for a batting title.

I think it might be optimal to trade JJ, sign AGon to a cheap-ish deal, and sign Beltran with the extra money to play LF and occasionally CF...while moving Prado to the bench.

This is basically the ideal situation IMO given our payroll limitations. I'd be so happy if this happens.

F$ck Seth Smith , Prado is way better

Mark Cuban Rumors....

"David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution wonders if Mark Cuban would have interest in buying the Braves should they hit the market at some point. Just as importantly, would MLB have interest in letting Cuban buy a team? The Dallas Mavericks owner has a reputation for challenging the status quo."

This would be pretty amazing for Braves fans. Cuban seems like the kind of guy that won't give a **** about the money, and would just want to win.

Does anyone remember when Ted Turner owned the Braves? Oh you need a Fred McGriff or Greg Maddux to make a run in the playoffs? No problem, get it done. I vaguely remember a Schuerholz interview where he talked about how much easier his job was when he could just call Ted and get a $5-10M payroll extension.

I can't even imagine how strong this team would be in a couple years if they got a legit owner that wasn't afraid to spend some money, and we spent it wisely.

Yeah I don't think Cuban will ever own the Braves (or any MLB team). I'm pretty sure when he made a push to buy the Cubs a few years back he basically was made aware that he'd never get approved to buy the team. MLB owners are like a boys club, doubt they want Cuban mixing things up.

With that said, it would be great to have ownership that knows when to raise payroll when you are in a spot where 10-15m could really put you over the top and give your team a great chance at winning a WS (which is worth a ton of money, obviously).

Something makes me think something significant will happen this week for the Braves, but we'll see (aside from Kimbrel winning the ROY).

MLB hates Cuban, unfortunately. He doesn't care about losing money and lost a ton making Dallas a contender and then champion. Money is all MLB cares about and will not let Cuban do that with one of their teams.

But wow that would be awesome if he bought the team.......

Kimbreling is the new planking, according to the Braves Facebook page

Kimbrel standing behind the Kimbreling Moylan, Medlen, and Hanson in what is probably Hawaii for Moylan's wedding recently (not a stalker, just read an article in my hometown paper about local boy Kimbrel, he was in Hawaii when interviewed by local writer about ROY)

but this tiny little girl Kimbreling takes the cake

Baseball America must not like Beachy or Medlen.

Seems they are overrating Mike Minor?

I'm kinda excited about following Joey Terdoslavich in the minors next year

Braves Interested In Trading For Eduardo Nunez

No thanks! His hitting doesn't cover his SS defense and it isn't good enough for a corner outfielder.
