K everyone should be PMd/Emailed about everything. We should be able to get started tomorrow assuming primetime around to make his pick.

I did the coin-flipping for the two tie breakers on random.org Coff won the #11 pick and I won the #2 pick. Rigged obv.

as of right now the draft order can be seen HERE.

Someone should double check it once the minor league cuts become final, but we should be able to bang out 52 picks pretty quickly and get started on Free Agency.

thats the point of the minor league cuts, you draft to fill your minor league roster, which is capped at 10 players. To get more draft spots you can either cut a minor leaguer, or promote him to your active roster (non-reversible, starts salary clock).

By keeping a minors guy you're effectively using a late-round pick on him.

What times the rookie draft start? I know who i am taking but don't want to be out and miss my pick. I could post it here now and end all the "suspense"

This is open for discussion obviously, but how about by noon tomorrow? Then each person has 6 hours to pick, and midnight-9am doesn't count? I'll be PMing everyone as their pick comes up so that they're ready, it would be hard for someone to be skipped over.

and yea you can post your pick whenever

Noon tomorrow works for me. I'll be around all weekend, but if this extends into Monday for some reason I won't be able to make a pick until late in the evening. I have zero time/limited access at work.

Also, I've started filling in the rosters on espn. I never did find a better way than their one at a time method, but it's not taking as long as I thought.

Are guys like Freese (undrafted prospects from last year who've accumulated the requisite # of ABs/IPs) to be distributed through the prospect draft, or through the FA auction?

If a team has used all of its "projected" draft picks (ie, they've filled their minors system after X rounds), but still have an MLB roster spot open, could they draft a rookie who is known to be headed to an MLB roster for 2011 when their turn comes up again? Could they do the same thing earlier (where the rookie goes straight to MLB roster) and then pick again since they still have a minors roster spot available?

Let me know if that didn't make sense.

---------

Exit, could you please post a list of the minor league cuts so we can see who's newly available? I'm assuming cuts are going to be closed at some point here, but I'll leave that up to you.

Last year we said that any rookie who isn't on anyone's rookie roster at the beginning of the season is ineligible to be picked up, and enters the league via the next year's auction. It would seem consistent with this rule to say that you're tapped out on rookies once you're reached ten, even if you have room on your ML roster.

Freese and players like him (>130ab, >50ip) are available in the free agent auction, not this rookie draft.

Coff, you can still make a cut.

Pecota,

we're sorta just making this up as we go, but if i had to decide i'd say you cannot decide to 'draft straight to majors' and get to use more picks.

all,

i'll have my pick up in a bit, was back and forth between two guys last night and want to give it a few minutes now that i'm awake.

also i'll post a list of rookies already on rosters.

Right, but I was thinking that there are a lot of teams who have room for five or fewer new prospects in the minors, so they would not be exceeding the 10 pick max if they drafted a rookie who is headed for a MLB roster (aka instant promotion in fantasy terms).

Edit:

I'll go ahead and tip my hand here, but what about players signed over from Japan? That's what I was getting at. Think of Daisuke's situation when he was technically a rookie (no MLB experience), but was signed and rostered as an MLB player. Is he still only eligible to be drafted?

Should we have a special rule for something like that? I see why we'd want to prevent someone from stashing prospects/picks on their MLB roster, since it's kind of a loop-hole for adding extra picks, but if a player is obviously going to skip the minors altogether, would your answer still be the same?

Eh if they're MLB rookies i don't think they should be treated any different just beacuse coming from Japan/skipping minors.

List of Rookies already on Rosters

This year's rookie draft.

and it pains me to turn away my 2nd choice, but i'm gonna go with Brandon Belt with the second pick. Puts Awesomenutshot on the clock, we haven't heard anything from either owner in a while so this pick could possibly run out the clock.

if anyone drafting soon is interested in trading down, i'm interested.

Yeah, I hear ya, it just depends on this "obvious promotion" issue. Like, Nishioka is going to get 130 ABs this year, but he has 0 now, and is thus a rookie, and either gets drafted or hangs around until next year. I know you know that, and you're just wondering if an exception should be made for the "obvious" guys, but even if we do that I think they should be dropped into the auction rather than drafted. And of course it's a gray area, we'd all want to agree, etc.

Also, is it easy to post a list of cuts as well? I'm having difficulty piecing together precisely who was cut from the various spreadsheets, which given how I have things set up, is what I need to know.

Are we sure Myers is already rostered? I searched this thread (this is where we did last year's rookie draft) and myers didn't come up.

Yep, round 8 pick 4 of last year by Coff. It was spelled incorrectly on that draft sheet (Meyers).

i'll work on a cut list Levarkin, do you want a list of all players who were drafted last year that are no longer eligible (i.e. including players that are still rostered but promoted?) or just the currently eligible players that were cut
