Back from summer inactivity. Sorry i dropped off and didnt do any commish stuff/left it on PECOTA. Seems like he has it under control now though? I forgot, do we have a trade deadline/did it pass? If not I wanna shake some things up.

That's ok, I haven't had a chance to make those salary fixes yet, but I've got it covered.

According to the league constitution, our trade deadline is August 19 (I have extra pitchers!)

All transactions and associated salary issues have been reviewed and fixed. It ended up not being a big deal, despite my urgent announcements earlier (I forget that not everyone makes a ton of roster moves during the season like I do).

Please refer to the tracking sheet before making any future roster moves though, just in case your numbers have changed slightly. Also, some teams are at or near the $0 mark, so keep that in mind too.

Primetime sends Hunter for Sergzs' Jaime Garcia, with PT picking up Hunter's remaining salary.

We're still doing the 2 day thing right?

Yes, I've been going with 48 hours from the time the trade was initially posted before approving it. I'll go ahead and post an announcement on the CBS page too.

I'm in the market for a starting 2B.

I have depth at MI and other areas, but I'll be needing a 2B specifically for next season, so let me know if you'd like to unload a depth player for something more useful.

I'm not sure how we're planning on doing offseason free agency, but I think it would be a good idea if we did it similar to how we do it in my dynasty NBA league.

Basically it's silent auction style and we'll do 5 "weeks" of free agency. Each week is a tier of quality of player, for this league we can do it like :

Week 1 : Only bids > 100
Week 2 : Only bids > 50
Week 3 : Only bids > 20
Week 4 : Only bids > 5
Week 5: The rest

There are 2 parts to each week, and every team can bid as much as their cap space allows. After the initial bidding period, all bids are announced and the Top 3 eligible bidders will have a day to submit a rebid. These bids will either be sent to the commish or 3rd party(this can easily be done in a way to prevent anything unethical or shady)

Example :

Week 1 and 5 teams bid on Pujols

Team A bids 150 with a cap space of 220
Team B bids 190 with a cap space of 190
Team C bids 140 with a cap space of 250
Team D bids 200 with a cap space of 200
Team E bids 130 with a cap space of 300

In this scenario Teams A C and D are the top 3 bidders and are able to submit a new bid.(note that Team B, while having the 2nd highest bid, is not eligible as the most he can bid is 190)

Also note that you can only bid up to your cap space, so if you have 250 cap room and Pujols and Hanley are FA's, you will probably only be able to bid on one(you could bid, say 125 on both, but you will probably not be in the top 3)

Another thing to note is that you can retract bids during the rebid period if you are not the leading bidder. An example of this is in Week 2 and you have 250 cap space and you've bid $80 on Jeter, $80 on Cano, and $70 on Mariano Rivera and you are in the top 3 bids for each player. During the rebidding process you still have $250 to bid on these players, and you could withdraw your bid on Jeter, bid $150 on Cano and $100 on Rivera.

Here are the rules from my league that might better explain it, though it's obviously a little different with the basketball rules :

Quote:
(1) On the first day of each of the Free Agency Bidding weeks, each team may submit an e-mail to the Commissioner with their contract bids on available Free Agents. Note: Bids may not be submitted before the published date for reasons of administrative integrity. If the Commissioner owns a team in the league, he will arrange with another owner to e-mail his bids to that other owner prior to the end of the Bidding Week. (Basically, the Commissioner is required to decide on his bids before each weekend in order to eliminate any possible bias or advantage.) The deadline for bids to be submitted is midnight Eastern (9pm Pacific).

(2) The Commissioner will tabulate all bids and determine which teams have the highest bids for each player. If only one team has bid on any given player, he immediately signs with that team. If a player has received one or more max contract offers, he immediately signs with the team which finished lowest in the previous year's standings. If a player has received 2 or more bids for amounts lower than the max, then a "re-bidding" process takes place among the top 3 bidders for his services. Only bids which are capable of winning the player may participate in the re-bidding process.

(3) The (up to) three teams with the highest bids for each player will have the opportunity over the following two days to either stand pat or increase their bid to any player that they are in the top 3 in bidding for. (Example: Team A, with $25M to bid, bids $12M on Jordan, $7M on Ewing and $6M on Pippen. They are the top bidder for Jordan, the 4th highest bidder for Ewing and the 2nd-highest bidder for Pippen. Since they weren't in the top 3 for Ewing, they are out of the running for his services. Team A will have until Tuesday to increase or withdraw their offers to Jordan and Pippen, at which time the final winning bidders will be determined.) If a team is not the top bidder for a player (meaning it is 2nd or 3rd, then it has the option of withdrawing that bid in order to divert those cap dollars to another player(s). The deadline for re-bids midnight Eastern ( 9pm Pacific).

(4) After each week’s Re-Bidding deadline, the Commissioner will determine all winning bids. In the event of equal bids on a free agent, the player will sign with the team that was lower in the standings the previous year. The Commissioner will then send out an e-mail to all owners with a list of all free agents which were signed during that Week, as well as the amounts they were signed for. Once a player is signed to a Free Agent Contract, he immediately joins his new team’s roster as a C1 contract at his new salary and may not be waived until after Opening Day. If that player had Bird Rights, those Bird Rights are eliminated as he begins a new contract.

to be specific, i eat the difference in the salaries. So neither team's 2010 payroll is affected. So, i eat Victor-$20-$4

and for the offseason draft, the silent bidding thing sounds kinda cool but i'm not totally sold yet, we could just have a month long free agency, have all the free agents able to be bid on w/ our remaining capspace. i'm looking forward to it however we do it.

also lets keep the trades comin! I have atleast two more players to sell! Zach Greinke anyone? Matt Holliday?

Top 5 places pay, if you're not improving remember your competitors will be!

I kind of prefer an open auction format for free agency actually. It was a lot of fun for the initial draft, and i think the same format would work well for free agency.

THE TRADE DEADLINE IS TODAY (AUG 19) AT 11:59 PM. PLEASE HAVE ALL PROPOSED TRADES POSTED IN THE THREAD BY THEN.

Also, if you have the major details of a trade in place, but are still haggling over a few dollars or a minor player, I don't see why such a trade couldn't be posted and then finalized within the following 24 hours.

·Pennington, Cliff SS OAK

The regular season trade wire is now officially closed.

Coff and Thayer's trade has been approved.

Thayer, please note that even though Dominic Brown has spent all season in Coff's minor league system, now that he's been traded to you Brown must be placed on your major league roster, thus activating his service clock. Per the rule stated below:

If the player is optioned down in real life 10 days or fewer after the trade is finalized, the new team may exercise a one-time option to send him down. This team may recall him if he is ever called back up for the rest of the season.
Exit and/or Karak, can you please confirm that I've interpreted the service time rules correctly. The way I understand it, 2010 will be equivalent to a full year of service time (1/6) for Brown, despite his spending most of it in the minors thus far.

In addition:

Also Coff, I've changed Utley's salary ON THE CBS ROSTER to $0 in order to negate any limitations you may have experienced from being over the cap (since Thayer is paying Utley's remaining salary). Pay special attention to what your actual payroll is listed as on the google doc when making additional transactions.

yep you got it, Brown can't be on Thayer's minors, and this now counts as the first of his 3 years at the rookie salary (4), same for Ryan Kalish and me.

Thanks for that.

Actually I had meant to post that I think V-Mart's salary was wrong, and that is why I was over budget. I traded Yunel Escobar ($17) and Ryan Kalish ($4) for Victor Martinez ($47) but Exit would be eating the remaining salary, so should Martinez's salaray reflect only 21$? his 47 less the combined totals of Yunel and Ryan?

The Utley's 2010 salary should just be $9 correct? The combined salary of Pennington and D. Brown.

Am I doing this wrong? Bc both trades had the other parties eating any extra salary to keep from changing the overall payroll.
