probably not pool weather by the looks of it

----

I'm travelling to vegas for a couple of weeks from 14 November. I'm a vegas virgin, travelling by myself looking to have a holiday and pay for it on the 2-5 and 5-10 tables...

First thing I'm looking at is accom. From what I've heard the Venetian, Bellagio and Wynn are the best places to grind 2-5 and 5-10 games. It looks like there's a bunch of hotels around those places that are all pretty basic and cheap: Treasure Island, Harrah's, Flamingo and Imperial Palace in particular. Is there anything separating these places really? Looks like I can get the best deal price wise at Imperial Palace, but I'm wondering if there are good reasons to maybe spend a bit extra and stay elsewhere. I'm not too bothered what my diggs are like, so much as wondering if the $20 saved per night is likely to cost me $30 on extra costs on something else. Like I said, I've never been to vegas, but from afar it seems like there are all sorts of hidden costs/benefits offered by different hotels and casinos...

Running Routes on Strip?

Going to vegas for first time on Sat, staying at Monte Carlo.

As well as playing poker and eating in'n'out, want to exercise each day.

Obviously got the Hotel gym/treadmill, but as it's not going to be boiling hot, was wondering about decent jogging routes for 5-8 mile runs. If I start relatively early in morning (9-11am) is just jogging up strip feasible, or is that stupid idea -and if Strip sucks where should I be looking to go for a good run?

be sure to factor in "resort fees" at places like TI (i'm staying there nov 14-18). run a search for Bally's, i've read threads in this section stating the rooms are ok, nothing spectacular, but super close to the Venetian and no resort fees.

Cheers for the tip Looks like I can get a deluxe room at imperial palace with no resort fees for $35 a night. Given there'll be tournaments at the Venetian while I'm in town are there any good reasons I shouldn't go ahead and book that?

It can be a bit noisy, if that bothers you. You could ask for a room on the far side.

I always try (and almost always fail) to get in at least 1-2 runs while in LV. Strip is doable, but I absolutely HATE the slick concrete on the sidewalks. Also, going north from Mirage gets kinda bleak fast. Going south is a bit less feasible because of the overpasses. Best bet is to go out to red rocks if you happen to have a car. It's like a 12-13 mile loop; well worth it.

Heading to Vegas this friday... Ive heard to say no tunnel to the cabby - but I usually like to stop somewhere and get a case of water + carton of smokes. Whats the best way to go about that?

Here's a great reason- it's the f'ing Imperial Palace. It is truly, truly a dump. If that is OK with you, then by all means book it.

Well if you're in the tunnel (which means on the freeway) then that would be by far the most inconvenient way of getting to a store for your stuff. Where are you staying? There are several Walgreens/CVS stores on the strip. I doubt you'd need to make an extra stop before you get there which would really run up the meter.

Good places to eat that are cheap that are really close or in IP? Last time I went to Vegas I enjoyed the food but it was getting expensive..next time I'm trying to make things as cheap as I can and will stay at IP and don't want to spend like $30 per meal.

the pasta place and korean restaurant in IP are both good eats. The kiorean place has prices inline with the other two korean joints on the strip though. Not ip prices. The burger joint there sucks.

Don't know what kind of cigs you smoke but Marlboro brands run $42-$45 a carton out here. Walgreens would be your best bet for smokes, cigs, water etc. If youre taking a cab just have him stop while you run in.

The steak special that youre talking about is probably the one at Ellis Island casino. It's at the corner of Koval and Flamingo.

So, I'm heading to Vegas next week... Is it actually worth checking out the WSOP final table or is it just incredibly boring to watch live? Any sort of spectacle that is worth checking out?

IME you have to sit through the entire presentation to get the free room. It's not pleasant, but you probably knew that. There's a presentation, then usually some one-on-one time where they pressure you, and then some waiting around while they "respect your decision" and "get your paperwork ready" while someone pressures you some more. Obviously this process varies from company to company, but basically they're not giving away free Vegas trips without strings attached, and the more valuable the trip, the more strings there are.

If your name is on the room, you might also have to sit through it. If not, you might be able to skip the presentation. Read the fine print, or else you'll get screwed by sitting through the presentation and only then realizing you don't qualify for the free room.

Skip the mexican place at IP. I tried it last time I was in town for *****&giggles and it was quite possibly the worst mexican I'd ever eaten.
