This is my experience in mid- to late April and mid- to late October (notwithstanding current heat wave). The number on the thermometer looks OK but you freeze your a-- as soon as you get out and the wind hits you. Fine for just sitting on a chaise though.

Tech Ed. 5k attendees.

SAP conference at the venetian that week. On the plus side, SAP sales guys and engineers make very good bank and many like poker and are way worse than they think they are at it.

That site brings some great trivia like .. Which will have more attendees?

A: The International Sourdough Reunion
B: The American Society of Tax Problem Solvers
C: American Payroll Associations Seminar on Payroll Administration in the UK

Dry air makes the moisture evaporate much quicker which cools the surface way more. Same reason you sweat profusely in humid heat but less in dry heat.

Kinda wondering, how does chip handling in the poker rooms work? Can you actually buy chips with you creditcard / traveler cheques or do they prefer cash?

you can not buy chips with a credit card. you can get a cash advance with your credit card but the fee will be like $40.

you can buy chips with traveler cheques, yes. redeem them at the main cage though, not the poker room.

Is there a law or something about buying chips with a credit card? I think (may be wrong) that at the Bicycle in CA you could buy in to their tournaments with one. Just curious.

Most credit card agreements state that the purchase of monetary instruments such as money orders, travelers cheques, or casino chips are considered the same as a cash advance with the applicable fees and interest rate. Unlike purchases, where a signature is all that should be asked for in the United States (Chip and PIN in Europe), the cash advancer can request identification to protect itself since replacing cash costs a lot more than merchandise.

The Bike, for instance, will ask for your ID or Bike casino card (which has your picture on it) if you choose to buy-in with a credit card, and you will be charged for a cash advance of the buy-in (Fees + immediate accrual of interest) rather than a purchase (no fee + grace period on interest).

Thanks, that makes sense.

Now that I think about it more, if that weren't the case I could see people buying chips and cashing them back just to accrue massive amounts of reward points.

Money that is knowingly lent for gambling is not considered an enforceable debt in some (most?) jurisdictions. That's why ATMs are just sitting off by themselves, outside of the gaming areas.

Quote:
It is the law of Massachusetts (G. L. c. 137, Section 3), Connecticut (Gen. Stat. Section 52-553 [1960]), and New Jersey (Stat. Ann. Section 2A:40-3 [West 1987]), that a contract to pay money knowingly lent for gambling is void. New Jersey, however, has an exception to this rule, its so-called Casino Control Act, N.J. Stat. Ann. Section 5:12-101 (West 1988). That statute, essentially, provides that a loan made for casino gambling in Atlantic City is legal and enforceable. See Gottlob v. Lopez, 205 N.J. Super. 417 (1985). The Kommits are Massachusetts residents who hold a Mastercharge card pursuant to a credit agreement with the Connecticut National Bank of Hartford (bank). The bank brought this action in Massachusetts seeking payment of $5,500 borrowed by the Kommits with the use of their card. The Kommits refused to pay because, as appears from Richard Kommit's affidavit filed in opposition to the bank's motion for summary judgment, he borrowed the money for gambling. It seems that, "on diverse dates" while at a casino in Atlantic City, Richard Kommit used his Mastercharge card to withdraw a total of $5,500 from an automatic teller machine. That machine was located in the "pit," the gambling area, of the casino. He claims that the machine was intended "to advance funds expressly for the purpose of gambling." Denying none of these facts, the bank argued that the debt is enforceable under New Jersey law. The Kommits relied upon Massachusetts law. The judge concluded that there was nothing in the undisputed facts which "offended Massachusetts public policy" and allowed the bank's motion. Because New Jersey law is not controlling and because there is a disputed issue of material fact, whether the bank knew that the money it lent to Richard Kommit was intended for gambling, we reverse the judgment.

I believe that is untrue in Vegas.

The credit card companies charge 3% juice, or thereabouts. Walmart eats that because it's taken into account when they price their goods. Casinos are not going to eat it. There is also some danger that a disgruntled gambler mey get a charge reversed.
