I obviously have some swing flaws, and they are just worse some days than others.

.....anyway...played on Saturday...

not going to do a hole by hole, but had another odd round. 41-48-89 in 30-40 mph winds.

The 41 was ridiculous because I hit one OB (it actually felt good, but i never saw nor found it) on #2 which led to a double. On #5 I hit an 8 iron from 177 well over the green, duffed a chip, and made a double. And I missed a 3 footer on #9. So that is ~4 shots pissed away. And I was still quite happy with a 41 on that side.

Oh a fun hole: The 9th hole is a par 5 and it was into the wind. I smoked my drive right down the middle (208 yards). I smoked my 3 wood dead perfect (209 yards). I smoked a 5 iron from 150 pin high onto the fringe. Just thought the yardages of my shots were pretty funny.

The back 9 was a disaster. I made 2 eights. One I hit it in the water twice and just had a rough go of it. The other one I made a mental mistake and tried to do too much on two shots in a row, leading me into awful awful situations. I also missed 2 or 3 short putts. And I barely missed an eagle putt and almost made a hole in 1. I had a lot of bad breaks too. On #18 I drive the ball to 56 yards and it is stymied behind a tree and i end up making double.

Anyway, I really do feel like I'm getting close to getting it all back together. I just need to make good decisions 100% of the time, not miss short putts, and chip the ball onto the green. I had a bad chipping day. 2 or 3 yip chunks.

hole by hole for today b/c its stupid and weird as usual. Very windy and storms a brewin'...early morning round:

#1:
Nice drive, drew a little bit too much or took a bad bounce. In the rough under a tree, 85 yards to the pin. I try and hit a low five iron and chunk it really bad and leave it short of the green. Pin is over a ridge and chip is really tough. Hit it and land it perfect, goes to three feet. Center cut for the par. Good start.

#2:
Playing through old men. I pull my drive left but hit it solid and it is downwind. 65 yards in, no green to work with over a bunker and a tree. Hit a really nice half lob wedge right at it. Goes a bit over on the fringe for a 25 footer. Still guessing on the green speeds as it is moist and humid, but putt it to a foot and tap in par. Yay E thru 2.

#3
Here's where the fun begins. Drive would've ended up good but I hit it kind of thin and it only went about 15 feet off the ground. It was drawing back into the fairway, but it caught a tree and it caromed across the fairway and very short. 228 in. I hit a 5 wood and I push/hook it but before it can hook back to goodness, it went OB because of the line it was on. Drop in same spot, hit exact same shot but started it off on a little better line. Ball took two bounces in the rough and just kicked straight right OB again. Drop in same spot, 6th shot started right at the pin, landed short, ran across the cartpath and ended up completely short sided with about 4 feet of green to work with off of a hardpan lie over a bunker. I hit a really nice flop shot that didn't go far enough and went into the bunker. Bunker shot is still tough but I hit it okay to the fringe from 12 feet. Barely miss 12 footer. Tap in for a 10. Awesome. This is a case of me being stupid. I could've easily just punched the ball forward to 100 yards, hit it on the green, and had an easy bogey and par opportunity.

#4
Hit a nice shot with a 7 iron. Hit a foot short of being really nice and went into the bunker. No green to work with, instead of trying to hit the perfect shot, I just blasted it to 20 feet and two putted for bogey.

#5
Perfect drive, but got no roll. 460 yard hole, straight downwind, had 180 in. I chunk hooked a 6 iron that ended up short left on hardpan with no green to work with. I bladed it a bit, but it had a lot of spin and left me an insanely hard 40 footer. I hit it perfectly and as the ball was feeding towards the hole down a very steep ridge, it just randomly stopped 10 feet short. Such crap. Putt straight downhill. Drained it center cut for a bogey. +8 thru 5!!

#6
Stupid hook 7 iron. Duffed the crap out of the chip and had a 40 footer from 10 feet off the green. I decided to putt it obviously and holed it center cut for par.

#7
Perfect drive into the wind about 5 feet off the ground. Teeing the ball way down is working. Water in front of green, 165 in, ball is in "a ballmark?" or something..awful lie. Punch it forward to 85 yards. Pull a gap wedge that hits on the green and spins left into the water. Dropped onto the fringe which you can do there, putted it awful to 7 feet, and drained the putt for double. +10 thru 7.

#8
Really nice rescue club to 85 yards. Hit a full and perfect gap wedge (still into the wind) to 15 feet over the pin. Burn the edge on touchey putt, and tap in for par.

#9
Perfect drive into the wind about 5 feet off the ground. Accidental blade 3 wood 5 feet off the ground. Highly effective...to 120. Hit a perfect pitching wedge over the water and judged perfectly to 15 feet. Left putt short in the center of the hole, tapped in for par. +10 45 on the front...awesome. (12 putts/2 greens/4 fairways)

#10
Pwedge downwind from 150. Perfect shot to 6 feet. Hit the putt perfect but didn't trust my read and missed it. Went 4 feet bye. Touchey stupid one coming back and made it center cut tyvm.

#11
Perfect drive into wind 5 feet off the ground. Had 150 in, hit a thin but straight and okay 6 iron short but only about 30 feet from the hole. I was about 15 feet off the green still, and putted it too hard and it hit the hole and popped up, going 6 feet bye. Drained that center cut. Par.

#12
Crappy antihook swing (ob left) 5 wood that went 5 feet off the ground to 125. Hit perfect pwedge to 15 feet on a severe green. Putt broke about 6 feet. Drained it center cut. Birdie!

#13
Perfect drive to 85. Hit a perfect lobwedge with a big cross hook wind. Wind did absolutely nothing and the ball just farted itself short and right. I putted from some pretty thick rough to 5 feet and made a downhiller for par center cut.

#14
Anti hook swing kept ball in bounds on Par 5. Fairway runs out and you have to hit it over a tree or fade it. I did neither. I had tree trouble on my pitchout but hit it perfectly to 115. I hit a gapwedge OVER the green, ugh, and had a really tough putt from the fringe. I completely misread it and I ended up with a 15 footer for par. Drained it center cut. Most confident putt of the day.

#15
131 to the back. I hit a pwedge perfectly and got completely robbed. Ball went to far into a bunker, and had a really touchey bunker shot. Hit it nicely, but it ran by about 20 feet. I kind of went for the putt and putted it 4 feet past the hole. Mental Midget putt missed horribly. Double.

#16
Perfect 5 foot off the ground drive into the wind to 165. 185 to back pin though, into the wind, so I hit a rescue. I hooked it and it really should've cleared the water, but I never found it and took a drop. I putted it from a sidehill that feeds into the water to 8 feet and barely missed a touchey downhiller. Double.

#17
Perfect 5 foot off the ground drive to 115. Straight into the wind, I hit a 9 iron that landed about 5 feet from the hole. Not a lot of depth to the green and I got screwed and the ball went over onto some hard pan. No green to work with, rough in my way. I just kind of decide to putt it through the thick rough and take my medicine. Ball goes to 30 feet, barely miss putt, bogey.

#18
Hit a 5 wood really thin like 2 feet off the ground but straight. Silly thing is, I measure it with my skycaddie, and the ball went 255 yards....silly game. I have 80 yards in and hit a perfect gap wedge right at the pin. It lands a foot short and kicks into the rough. I putt through some more thick rough to a foot and tap in for par. (6/7 fairways 2/9 greens, 14 putts)

45-39/84

This somehow lowered my handicap from a 7.7 to a 7.4

49-57 106, 25 stableford points. Had 8 par putts, made 2, 2 of the were very long though.

Driver was erratic, putter ice cold, starting to get some reliability from my irons which helped keep the round together, best strokeplay score in a very long time.

Highlights:

4th par 4 254m extremely uphill the first 120 m. Hit a good solid drive, a nice 7 iron from a difficult lie to the apron in front of the green, chipped to about 4 feet and made par.

6th par 5, 497 m. Hit 3 good shots to be 25 yards from the green in the left semi, chipped with a 7 iron hit the stick and the ball stopped 4 inches from the hole.

Technically yesterday, but whatever.

New course, 6673 yards
58-50 - 108 with 9 fairways, 2 GIR and 40 putts

Kinda disappointed with the round since I thought things were starting to come together, but my iron game was a disaster for the most part today. Most of my drives were good, but a few were yanked hard left because I was clearing through too quick with my hips. The back 9 was pretty short and dog-legged so I teed off with a 3i probably 3 times and hit it really well.

I would like to do a hole-by-hole but I can't remember every shot. I knew I should've done this earlier.

I will put up a few high/low-lights though

#1 - decent drive, but I chunked my second shot (3/4 pw) left into the water. That pretty much crushed my soul early on since I'd actually had a pretty good warm-up on the range.

#2 - that same water from 1 reared its head again as I hit a 7 iron way left and into the water.

#3 - after a great drive, a bad decision with a fairway wood to try and reach the green in 2 ended up with a topped ball and then 4 more shots to get on the green before triple bogeying.

At this point I'm +11 and needed to do some serious mental work to keep myself in the game. It worked well enough since I played the rest of the 15 holes at a reasonable (for me) +25, but I need to be better about stopping it before I ruin 3 holes on my round.

#5 - crush a drive about 325. I'm not a super long hitter, but I'm 6'3 with a very flexible upper body, so if I get a hold of one it'll go. This one ran nicely for me too, and I ended up with <100 yards in to the green, which of course means I triple bogeyed after some bad SW play and a 3-putt

#6 - drive a little left, but playable. 6i a little left, but playable. PW a little left of the green. Chip up and 2 putt for a bogey.

#9 - dogleg left (worst setup for me) and my drive just barely runs in to the bunker. Try a 9 from 130 out and still hit it fat enough that it comes up short. Standard bad short game follows, but I sink an 8 foot putt to keep the match play tally for the front 9 even with my roommate for the 2nd straight day.

#13 - 205 yd par 3 means trouble for me. I try to swing to hard and hit a 4i right in to the water. Sand problems follow and I hit a 6, making me +8 through 3 par 3's.

#15 - 168 yd par 3. Originally I had a 7 lined up for this shot to a back pin since it was a little downhill, but then my roommate hit a 7 and he's usually a solid club longer than me. I figure my par 3's have gone poorly enough today that I'll follow his lead and put a 6 within about 10 feet. Nasty side hill putt lips out on the high side for me and I tap in for par, and to even the back 9.

#17 - Par 5 and roommate starts talking trash in an attempt to psych me out and win back the money he lost yesterday. I hit a great drive that takes a ridiculously hard bounce off the fairway and jumps in to the fairway bunker at the edge of the dogleg. The ball is nestled just against the lip too, so I can't even take a full swing and instead punch it out to ~130 yards. Somewhere on this hole my towel falls out of the cart while my roommate's driving (I say purposefully) so I'm a little extra angry now. I knock it pin high, but just off to the right of the green. Chip up and putt it home to take the hole 6(4)-5 (I get 2 strokes on the 5 hardest holes) and lock up another win.

So yeah, my short iron game sucked, but the putting was noticeably better than before. I have a few drills I want to do on putts 4 ft and under just to get used to putting the ball in the cup that I think will help me a lot since my speed, while not great, is certainly better than my green reading abilities.

Very happy with my new driver. I was being told by pretty much everyone that my decade old steel-steel driver was holding me back on distance and I can't believe just how much of a difference it makes.

ugggh....shot 43 after finishing double-double this weekend...Windy as hell. Both par 3s were playing as tough as possible ( 198 and 220) dead into the wind and only 1 hole was truly down wind. Pretty brutal...

Nasty.

Played my home course today. An easy, short par 72. Shot 35/45, which for me is way above average / below average. Coincidentally, I had two hamburgers and bought beer at the turn. Highlight of the round was birding 3 of the last 4 holes on the front.

My heaters only last 45 minutes.

that's very interesting....i actually read somewhere that if you consume a large amount of food at the turn your game will **** the bed on the back nine...actually if you eat a large amount anytime during the round, once your chemicals in the brain get unbalanced your game will **** up for a few holes.

i'd be curious what you did on 10-12 because your game prob fell apart starting on 12 or 13 if it was due to food. as far as beer is concerned, i play better until i have about 6 or so on the course.

look at tiger when he is play...he is constantly eating small amounts of food so his brain will remain in balance...

West Middlesex par 69 length 6119 yards

Better ball competition I was on the winning end for once.
Played mostly Ok until I got near the green.
The round in numbers
1 blob; third shot on a par five I hit a club too many into knee high rough behind the green and lost the ball.
1 treble; took a Fw off the tee for safety and blocked it right into a stream.
6 doubles
8 bogies
2 pars
3 Girs
6/12 fairways
36 puts and off course I didn’t finish one hole.

I'm trying to remember. Played the first three holes decently, as a player dropped at the turn and we played a 3 man robin to finish. I put the first guy 2 down. Think I won #10 with a par, tied #11 w/ a double, and missed a 7 or 8 foot birdie putt on #12 but won the hole.

EDIT: I remember now for sure.
Par .....4 4 4 4 3 5 3 5 4
score: 4 6 4 6 3 5 5 7 5

Played my last round on saturday. The monthly medal.
Would have won if I didn't make that 12 on the par 5 16th.
Knocked my first teeshot OB, then the second on the exact same place on the right side. Third was in the woods on the left, couldn't find it.

2 rounds this week.

Shot 75 at a course with a dbl on the last hole :-(. Lost the tourney by 2 as a result.

Played in scramble yesterday. Made 3 eagles. Where I hit a hybrid, 5w, 3w from 225,235,250 all within 20 feet. Was the sickest I've ever hit successive fairway metals from the fairway.

Group sucked and still only shot -11 and finished 4th :-(. But I played well!

Oh yeah, I won the Long Drive too

Shot 42-39=81 today at Olde Mill Golf Club in Schoolcraft, MI. Course is your standard late 60s-early 70s muni kind of design. Very walkable, small greens.

Got away with a few shots in the rough that I wouldn't when the trees are filled out in the summer. Played alone in just over 2 hours (riding). Sand traps had 0 sand in them, greens rolled well for the most part.

No doubles, no 3-putts. Hit 6/7 fairways on the back, after not hitting one until #9 on the front.

Brag: New i10s should be in tomorrow.
Beat: Leaving for job interview near Chicago tomorrow morning.

Par 69 5649 yards

Looks easy enough on paper doesn’t it but every hole had the same horrible knee high rough and thick bushes lining its narrow to average width fairways and five foot of moderate rough. Anything more the twenty yards left or right of the middle of fairway was on nearly every hole was in knee high grass and stinging nettles and probably under a mature bush.
22 stableford points

7 doubles

Shot a 68 today, and only my 3rd time out so far this year. Catch is its an all par 3 course so I was 14 over : )

1 put 6 of the last 9 holes to get my best round there of the year. If only I had friends interested in golf that I could go to legit courses with.

I still cant hit my woods off the tee : (

I shot an 81 today. Much better than recently. I have been hooking the ball so bad and I know I am taking it back a bit too far on the inside, so I made the long overdue adjustment of "take it a little steeper." Swing is obviously on plane again, I'm such an idiot. I am still such a mental midget too.

I 3 putted from 20 feet on the 15th hole, missing a 2.5 footer after talking myself out of making it. I don't know what it is about 2.5 footers. 6 footers/15 footer/30 footers no big deal.

I did something with a really simple chip where i completely yipped it. I went straight underneath the ball and it didn't move an inch. It wasn't even in thick rough, just fairway. Then I chipped it well and it almost went in and ran 5 feet by and I missed that too. So a double which should've been an easy par. This is why I putt from thick rough. Score wise, it rarely makes sense for me to chip.

Missed the green by 20 yards from 85 yards and I hit the shot solid. Just a weirdass shot, I think my swing randomly fell of plane and I hit a high terrible fade that went more right because of the lie.

Had about 80 yards in needing a birdie and a par to break 80. I bladed a lobwedge (little yippy) and it went over the green and OB. Dropped, hit it to 4 feet, made the putt for bogey.

I left A LOT of shots out there. Still though, I did have 2 balls that were within litereally 1 inch of going in the water that I could barely play they were so close to the edge.
