I played 9 holes at Eagle Bluff Golf Course, where the fairways are a bit muddy and the greens are punched this time of year. Three pars, a bogey, two doubles, but what killed me was an ugly 7-8-9 stretch on three holes. I managed a few good shots, and managed my several mi****s well, but several short situations just killed me.

I suspect this is a pretty typical result for a high handicapper like myself. Sure, there are players who can't shoot par on any hole, but most of the time our scores are dominated by the bad holes. The 7-8-9 stretch was really unnecessary.

I'll end this post with the following hole that kind of gave me trouble. well, actually I narrowly escaped it. I hit my driver tee shot in the perfect spot on the right fringe of the fairway, except it rolls too far and then dribbles down all the way down, but stopped 3 feet away from the water. Nailed the 100 yarder to the green btw. Note to self, hit 3w or 5w next time.

First round of the year yesterday. 12 stableford points. Sigh! But hey then there is room for improvement. Lots of room.

9/18 gir
6/14 fairways

i went -1 with 4 gir on the par 3's today, first time ive ever done that.

i had 5 approches inside 10 feet and walked away with only 1 birdie...need to work on putting.

other than that had a solid round.

Yet another round at West Mid par 69 length 6119 yards
Having read Stan Utley’s putting bible I was hopping for some improvement and did feel more confident in what I was trying to do at least. Still took 38 putts, 4 from off the green and two chipins meant no putts on two holes.
7 flubbed pitches\chips although two of those were very hard.
Two sevens although nothing worse on the card.
One lost ball due to an abomination off the tee.
All in all a mediocre 94

Played my first round of the year keeping score yesterday. 103 on a pretty easy course, all of my short game is a disaster and I got tired at the end and played the last two hole +7, which was awesome.

On the plus side though, it was me and 2 ex-college golfers (well, one played, the other had scholarship offers but went to a big state school instead) and we played wolf. I got 1.5 strokes a hole and came out par-par to start my "within one stroke" domination of them.

Also, I found out that I'm playing East Lake next year for our school tournament, so I'm pretty excited about that.

I started playing blues for the first time this year as I felt my game had improved enough to handle it. Last year I was shooting in the low 80's, including a personal best 78, from whites so I stepped it up a bit this year.

So far this year has gone 94, 94, 94, 92 until yesterday, I shot a second-best round of 80. The funny thing is, I feel like I left a lot of shots out there. I had good reads on quite a few putts that I just didn't hit hard enough, and I duffed two or three shots throughout the day. Still very happy with the round, I guess starting with a birdie on #1 isn't such a bad thing.
Course was Copetown woods in Hamilton Area, Ontario, 6500 yards.

it was my first time playing the course so to have a solid round 1st go is really rewarding to me.

32 putts
5/18 gir (didnt hit a single green on the front, although every single shot was no more than 20 feet off....)
8/14 fairways
finished birdie par birdie

Spring golf trip - 4 days

Sunday: Oak Hollow GC, High Point NC, 87
Monday: Little River, Carthage NC, 83
Monday: Southern Pines GC, Southern Pines NC, 88
Tuesday: Talamore, Southern Pines NC, 90
Tuesday: Foxfire (West), Foxfire Village NC, 86
Wednesday: Tobacco Road, Sanford NC, 81

Had great weather on Sunday. Oak Hollow is a Pete Dye course on a fairly small piece of land. Lots of small, elevated greens. Prepare to chip ... a lot.

Monday was windy. Little River is a decent course, played well. Southern Pines is an old Donald Ross design and was in much better shape than when I played it 3-4 years ago. Definitely recommended.

Tuesday was cold (high of about 50) and very windy, making for brutal conditions. Talamore has about a million sand traps and very soft sand which made for a long day. It was nice to have the course to ourselves in the afternoon - we saw one other group total.

Wednesday's course, Tobacco Road, is - for lack of a better word - unique. If tried to pay it without the yardage book you'd go crazy. Blind shots. Waste areas. Strategic options. It's nuts. Even though I generally prefer traditional layouts, I liked it. It probably didn't hurt that I was sharp, making 8 pars on the front nine. The wind came up on the back, making it that much harder.

I hit one of the most ridiculous shots I've ever pulled off on #11:

I didn't quite flush my third shot and got a terrible break as well - the ball kicked hard right down into this gigantic waste bunker. That diagram doesn't come close to doing it justice, but the 30 feet deep thing is legit. I'm a couple yards from the front wall and it just goes up and up and up. Opened up the sand wedge as far as it could go, swung hard, popped it up and it not only got out, the ball hit about two inches from the pin.

If you're in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill - Pinehurst - Fayetteville - Sanford area, you owe it to yourself to play this course at least once.

i hit all 9 gir on the front (first time ive ever done that)

on the front i had my best ball striking round ever...if i could put i would have shot 31... on the back i got paired up with 3 guys that had extremely poor etiquette (re: 20 mulligans a piece -- no bull****...) and they still shot no better than 55 on arguably the easiest course in the area. i let my patience get to me, speeded up my swing and played like **** compared to front.

Played on a new course in Bristol (7200y) which is a decent testing course, first time playing it too.

Managed to shoot 77 which is the first time i've broken the 80 barrier, never realised untill 4 days later when i shot 79 on my home course (Off the whites aswell, 6500y)!

Chuffed to break the 80's twice in a week, best shot was on the bristol course hitting a 5i 210 to an elevated green and stopping 7ft from the pin, shame i balls'd the putt up. I lashed the 5i and caught it good, went dead straight.

Handed some new cards in to my course for HDCP adjustment so hopefully i might get into single digits

West Middlesex par 69 length 6119 yards
91 45/46 and 35 putts
I have almost no idea how I played so much better today then last time and only beat my score by 3 strokes.
My putting was much better I still three puttied twice.
My short game was better; I got up and down in two from both the bunkers I went in and only flubbed one chip.
My driving was better, on the back nine I was twenty to thirty yards in advance of my usual landing areas. I also hit six out of eleven fairways missing only one by a significant margin.
I had one blow up hole a 178 yard par 3 I pushed my tee shot right into thick trees and instead of doing the smart thing and declaring it unplayable I took two shots to hack it out one pitch onto the green and then three jacked it.
I made another horrible error of judgment by going for the green in two on the last only to get lucky and find my ball had come through the trees id blocked it into.

90. Nice symmetry - 3 pars, 3 doubles, 12 bogeys. 9 over on each side. Yuck. I don't think I want to go back and add up my putts, had to be at least 40.

85.... 39-46

the 39 was really nice as it was windy and I had a few silly lipouts. The 46 was a few wasted shots, two decent tee shots that got bad bounces and ended up directly behind small trees, and my personal favorite, having to hit a shot while listening to "save a horse ride a cowboy". Seriously, this disturbed me so much that I duck hooked 3 straight shots and was +6 through 3 holes.

played great on the front, missed a 2 foot putt for birdie and 3 putt from inside 8 feet...so really should have shot 34 (missed some other birdie putts too...:/)

on the back i hit a bunker shot to 2 feet on #10 and managed to 3 putt (freaking slider....) from there i mentally lost it and shot ****.

I shot 75 today so net 2 over but I am really tilted at what happened on the second hole. Its a short, 315 yard par 4 dog leg left. It plays a lot shorter than that if u can go over the trees which isnt hard to do if u play a high draw like i do. I was on the tee and hit a sweet drive that went over trees as usual which should have landed less than 20 yards away from the pin ( pin was in back left). Its a blind shot from the tee so i could not see if there were people on the green or not. I went up looking for my ball and could not find it. Looked for about 5 minutes and had to go back and reload (a drive that didn't go as well). So i finish the hole and ended up have a 6 after reloading. Now I am on the 4th hole and see some people on the fifth hole, i asked them if they saw a ball when the were playing number 2. Apparenty there was a ball (Pro V1) which was on the green!! that they thought was left by someone who had previously played the hole SO THEY PICKED IT UP . It was in fact my ball when they showed it to me and if they left it on the green i would have been about 30 feet for eagle.

i had 38 on front and 37 on back

39-41 (80)

7/14 fairways
11/18 gir

had a great ballstriking day, but could not capitalize on short putts.

3 three-putt gir and only 1 biride out of 5 approach shots or so inside 12 feet. my wedges are absolutely on fire right now so i'm getting a ton of good looks, but i simply cannot captialize on the short putt.

im very excited at where my golf game is right now, i feel like if i practice putting a bit ill become a single digit and start to break 80 with more consistency in no time at all.

Shot 82 on Easter morning. Still very rusty from the winter, but several shots are worth mentioning...

1) Par 3 playing into a breeze over water. 150 yards to the flag and I striped a 7-iron dead on the hole. It landed two feet from the cup but rolled down the slope to the back fringe. Three swipes with the putter for a bogey.

2) Par 4 green guarded by a creek in the front. Dumped my approach in the water. Took a drop and got up and down from 50 yards for par.

3) Par 5 through a corridor of trees. Pulled drive left. Try a hook that doesn't hook with a 4-iron. In the trees right. Bang out a low iron that runs into the trees left. With 95 yards left I hood down a wedge to keep it under the tree branches and pinch it with a little 5/8s swing. Two hops and hits the flagstick. Tap in par.

I think I hit four greens in regulation.
