The key to Ben Hogan being as great as he was, was taking the left side of the course out of play. Great words to live by. I used to hit draws or hook everything and I changed my grip....granted its uncomfortable for a looooooooooong time but once you get used to it, many strokes will come off your scores. Book it.
Probably not my grip:

I obviously have some swing flaws, and they are just worse some days than others.
.....anyway...played on Saturday...
not going to do a hole by hole, but had another odd round. 41-48-89 in 30-40 mph winds.
The 41 was ridiculous because I hit one OB (it actually felt good, but i never saw nor found it) on #2 which led to a double. On #5 I hit an 8 iron from 177 well over the green, duffed a chip, and made a double. And I missed a 3 footer on #9. So that is ~4 shots pissed away. And I was still quite happy with a 41 on that side.
Oh a fun hole: The 9th hole is a par 5 and it was into the wind. I smoked my drive right down the middle (208 yards). I smoked my 3 wood dead perfect (209 yards). I smoked a 5 iron from 150 pin high onto the fringe. Just thought the yardages of my shots were pretty funny.
The back 9 was a disaster. I made 2 eights. One I hit it in the water twice and just had a rough go of it. The other one I made a mental mistake and tried to do too much on two shots in a row, leading me into awful awful situations. I also missed 2 or 3 short putts. And I barely missed an eagle putt and almost made a hole in 1. I had a lot of bad breaks too. On #18 I drive the ball to 56 yards and it is stymied behind a tree and i end up making double.
Anyway, I really do feel like I'm getting close to getting it all back together. I just need to make good decisions 100% of the time, not miss short putts, and chip the ball onto the green. I had a bad chipping day. 2 or 3 yip chunks.
