39-40 = 80

Played a tee back from usual, shot my handicap. Played great for me, bogeyed the last four holes. 80 is about the sweet spot for qualifying tomorrow: just out of championship flight, top of first.

1 Birdie/3 Bogeys/1 Double.

Round my home track in a stableford comp. Managed to get 42 points. Double was on a par 5 was in the greenside bunker for 3. Caught it super clean and went flying over the green near the club house. Had a lot of people watching me hitting my next shot thankfully I hit a half decent one and then 2 putt for a 7.

Playing a decent course tomorrow should be way more of a test. Last time I played it I did a awful but didn't have a clue on where I was going think I went round in like 90 so hopefully I can do a bit better than that

Lol. Qualifying round for match play, worst round I can remember, literally. Crazy thing is, I actually played fine, the breaks just didn’t go my way. I was battling very strong winds, and didn’t adapt. Started on back nine and had five pars, but a triple (should have taken an unplayable, had multiple shots out of thick grass) and a double hurt. Still, I was feeling ok with my game, then just disaster as the wind picked up. Double #1 when what I thought was a good drive blew into the heavy. QUADRUPLE #2, a very short par 4 that was straight into the wind with a lost ball. Beautiful drive on #3, but my second shot caught the wind and put against the high lip of the green side bunker where I had no shot but to nudge it further into the bunker; another double. I was pretty damn demoralized at that point, and grinded through the rest.

I put a very small percentage of blame on this, but our round took 5.5 hours. My usual rounds are 3:45. I don’t do well waiting.

In theory this means more golf this week if I don’t blow up. My first match is against a 14.5 handicap (I’m at 8.8) who shot 98. If I win, second match is against either a 12.5 who shot 88, or a 14.1 who shot 100 and has only posted three scores this year.

That would drive me absolutely nuts. A loooooong round for me is 4 hours.

44-41-85 yesterday. probably the absolute highest i could have shot (zero birdies, 39 putts)

Me too; monthly team play usually goes 4:30, and I HATE it. Yesterday we waited on literally every single shot.

If I were to critique the tournament committee, I would recommend putting younger eyes in as spotters. They had spotters at the locations where they should have them, but they were horrible. From my group we probably had a total of 10 balls go into the thick stuff with spotters, and found one of them. Yeah, the grass is BAD, but come one....for my lost ball the spotter said he "saw it come down and about where it landed," but then wandered off to watch someone tee off?

The whole day was watching groups high step through tall grass.

I started off terrible ducked hooked a iron and was 3 off the tee.

Settled down on the 2nd hit over water onto a island green and got it within 10feet but massive swing on a fast putt managed to 2 putt for par.


Can't really remember what happened during most of the round but I want to highlight 2 tee shots with a 4 iron. Now these tee shots were down hill and it was running so hot it was insane.

I zapped the 1st green it's a Par 4 downhill and when I zapped it with slope it was 230ish. I hit it took once bounce went running by the pin and over and then it just bushes thankfully I had a sort of bump and run into the bank and then chipped it on to a foot to make par.




Now hole 12 which is where it gets a little stupid. It's super downhill and get right the line you will run down like this. I did hit it pretty well but I don't think it mattered all that much. iirc I had 50 to the middle and 80 to the flag which is stupid for a Par 5. I don't know why but I thought I would bump and run this up the right to let it come back to the left. I played it to far right and ran through the green. Made 5.



I had another one on 16 where I hit a 4 iron off the tee and it went 280ish literally 10 yards from the flag but **** lie blade it to the over side and make 5. Taking 4 shots from 10 yards


Personally I've never experienced a golf course running so hot was fun and annoying at the same time.

More pars than usual and way better control of the driver.

Match play: won 8&7. I was +3 when we finished.

Not exactly proud of it given my horrible qualifying, but happy with how I played. I was up 8 though 8 before my first bad hole, a double. Next match Wednesday.

After a few more high 80's, low 90's scores, it goes the other way yesterday: tied my PB (76) for the second time this year.

38-38, one double and two bogies.

Golf still maddening...

Nothing exciting on the golf front except I won $66 over Sunday and Monday. Considering the low stakes we play for that's a nice haul.

In North Carolina this week for work and some golf. Got out and played TPC Piper Glen today. 8 holes before it poured for 10 minutes. Finished 9 then heard the thunder and called it. +3.

Tomorrow I made a last minute tee time for Pine Needles. Should be fun.

Tried to play 9 Sunday, and got caught in a downpour. Didn't finish.

61-58-119 today at my local. Couldn't stay out of the trees, water or sand. Even lost more balls than I found.

Time to reconsider my life choices.

34 putts

Putt speed was really lacking. Had a lot of long second putts.
2 Three putts

Driver continues to be my glaring weak spot.

Feeling really good 120 and in.

I feel you!

So, I'm still struggling with a pull hook with my irons (7-9). Wife and I went out to play the 12 hole pitch and putt near my house and it was BRUTAL. It was windy which didn't help, but not being able to trust a starting line makes playing near impossible. Add to it that the course is riddled with dunes and lakes, and it made for a long afternoon. (Did I mention the greens had recently been punched and sanded?) Going to need some serious time on the range just working on alignment. Wish me luck!

Wednesday Match Play Match: Won 4&3.

Should have won earlier. Played really well, but had a couple blow up holes where he DIDN'T.

Today: Won 3&2.

Much more competitive match, we're both around the same handicap. It was a mini-roller coaster, neither of us were up more than 2 until I won, an I was never down more than 1. Off the top of my head it went - / +1 / +2 / +1 / +2 / +1 / +1 / +1 / - / -1 / -1 / - / +1 / +1 / +2 = win

This is my first match play tournament, ever, and I love it. Love the strategy involved. Helps that I'm winning. I play a good player tomorrow, so we'll see. I'm happy to have advanced this far.

I love playing match play, unfortunately my club doesn't hold event match play events for the men only for the Seniors and the women. They might do next year as 1 I'll suggest they do it and 2 they've had a big influx of men golfers.


Years back I remember me and my partner got to the like the quarters or semi's in our knockout event. Playing partner didn't show up and I had to play 1 vs 2 I took them all the way down 17 which I ended up losing but for me that was a win

Level Par tonight in the 9 hole roll up 2 birdies 2 bogey's got me like 22 points only real mistake was a 3 putt on the 6th. Ended up coming 3rd with 22 points playing off 4 for 9 holes. 1st and 2nd were 2 higher handicappers 10+ I think 24 and 26 points. Hopefully I can play this well in the morning.
