Furious today

I just have not been able to make consistent contact all year. Cannot hit the ball in the general vicinity of the middle of the clubface to save my life. Mostly on the toe and low on the clubface with the driver, pop-ups with fairway woods, high on the face and toe of my irons. But really, all over the place too. It's particularly frustrating because when I actually make halfway solid contact, my swing is great and I'm hitting the ball dead straight and quite a ways too. But my mis-hits are so bad, so catastrophic that they almost always result in huge trouble, weeds, O.B, hazards, lost ball, etc. So, for example, today I shot a 41 with 2 double bogeys and a triple bogey. Yet I was -2 on the other 6 holes. So ****ing frustrated with this crap, been practicing a ton lately too. Usually this always happens in the spring, I can't make contact for a couple weeks but after that I settle in for the summer. That never happened this year. I never settled in, the contact never came. That's why I haven't posted much about my game this summer; it sucks ass. ****ing depressing as hell, this is the worst that i have been since the summer I started playing this game. Yet I'll be back for more...

Played 6-12 + 16-18 with a couple of friends after practice last night and shot +3 for those 9 holes. No focus at all, just whacking the ball and talking and having fun. Actually struck the ball really well apart from a couple of blocked drives. I really should learn to just relax when I am playing golf instead of trying so damn hard all the time.

New personal best w/ really bad iron play. Played the back nine first and putter was on fire. Bought new iron set on Wednesday and 2nd round with those with no range practice, so things are looking good. Also, will be spending winter in Malta so my road to break 80 will be a lot easier without Finnish winter season. Distances in meters, average 1-putt distance around 2,5 meters.

Another 77 today. Putting was much better than the disaster yesterday and ball striking was still pretty good.

Played 9 on two separate courses (both par 35)
42 on first 9 (24 shots 18 putts(yuck))
44 on second 9 (with an 8 and a 7)

38 (par 36). One 3 putt, one darkness-induced chunked pitch. Reduced the effort in my swing by a bunch and got good results.

I was thinking as I left that I wish it would stay light another hour so I could hike the other nine ... As it turned out when I got home I discovered a huge blister on the bottom of my foot.

91 on a very tough course today. playing the whites although very wet air and not too much roll

tons of pars and bogeys that should have been pars. and a couple of lazy doubles. too many triples and quads. had three penalty infractions from only 2 swings on one hole

so much to improve but wedge control really let me down (hadn't played a round in awhile though and very hilly course)

one thing i'd never thought of practicing before is recovery shots from very close to trees or branches in heavy rough. sounds stupid but cost me a ton of strokes today... and generally driving the ball lower for distance from the rough. maybe put a lower lofted hybrid back in the bag

you also need to convert some of those many bogeys into pars (as do i)

reminds me of a friend who needed to par on 18 to shoot 77. quadruple bogeyed it and hasn't come remotely close again since (5 years or so)

what was the basis for your great play on 1st 13?

hit some good shots, made some putts, got lucky that bad swings ended up ok

on 12 i hit it a mile left, there's a big fence left with people's houses on the other side, i hit it over the fence and it hit a tree and bounced back into the rough near the green.

also the course is quite easy as you can see from the rating

+2 for nine holes. Played an assortment of holes and tees trying to avoid people. 2 birdies.

37 (par 35). 1 birdie, missed three other real good opportunities. This whole reduced effort swing business is going quite well. Looking forward to stress testing it this weekend.

Also made a par on 10 before calling it on account of darkness and pizza.

heh. played with my one buddy today who wakes up in the morning and the first thing he does is roll 5 blunts for the day.

pretty sure he had one burning the entire round.

38-40-78. 2 birdies, 1 double. Almost every shot lost was a mental mistake, should gone low tees were way up.

39-36-75 on my home course (73.4 rated par 72).

It was in a stroke play tournament, so I'm quite pleased. Only other stroke play tourney earlier this year I went 81-81-85, but I'm hitting it much better and my short game has gotten steadily better too. Could have easily been a 72 or 73, but still pleased. Unfortunately it was a 100% handicap tournament, so I'm assuming with 1 shot I'll be about 6 back.

Shot a 38-38-76 yesterday too, which could have been better, but still fine.

71-74-74-76-75 my last 5 rounds after 4 straight rounds in the 80s.

edit: Also, hit some 240 yard steered push slice into the woods, then a nuked 3 wood through a gap from 275 to 15 feet. Sigh driver issues.
