It's bizarre because the guys on Liv do genuinely seem to be enjoying it. Unless they are lying in interviews and really great actors.

I'm sure big money is part of it, but isn't part of the dream of being a professional athlete having people watch you play?

Koepka FTW. That was actually a decent finish.

The DP World Tour was correct to impose sanctions on members who appeared on the rebel LIV circuit without permission, an arbitration panel has determined, in what marks a public embarrassment to the golfers who challenged the penalty. It is now likely players such as Lee Westwood and Ian Poulter will never feature on the DP World Tour again.

sux to be Greg Norman -- persona non grata on Tour and now ANGC

Greg Norman ‘disappointed’ with Augusta National over ‘petty’ move

Quote:
“Funnily enough, I haven’t been invited. As a major winner I always was before, but they only sent me a grounds pass last year and nothing, zilch, this time around. I’m disappointed because it’s so petty but of course I’ll still be watching.”
Quote:
In what would be an incredibly strange scene, Norman has stated that all of the LIV Golfers will congratulate a potential LIV Golf Masters winner on the 18th green if they were to get it done, telling NewsCorp on Saturday:

“They’ve said that if one of them wins then the other 17 will hang around and be there to congratulate him around the 18th green,” he said. “Could you imagine what a scene that would be, all these players hugging the winner. You only see things like that in the Ryder Cup, although it’s happening in our events more and more.”

U.S. District Judge Beth Labson Freeman issued two provisionally sealed orders on Tuesday in favor of the PGA Tour.

First, she granted the PGA Tour’s request to conduct depositions of Public Investment Fund of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (PIF), which backs LIV Golf, and PIF’s governor, Yasir Othman Al-Rumayyan, in the U.S. instead of in Saudi Arabia.

Second, she denied PIF and Al-Rumayyan’s motion in opposition of U.S. Magistrate Judge Susan van Keulen’s authorizing the PGA Tour to subpoena PIF and Al-Rumayyan, requiring they testify at depositions, and share emails and other sensitive materials.

LIV folks must be loving this. Rory and Justin miss the cut. Koepka, Mickelson (of all people) and Reed (again, of all people), could take 3 of the top 5 finishing positions..

except having the winner trumps all of that by a factor of 100

I am anti-LIV. Koepka is the only player I miss watching. Cam Smith too, I guess.

But LIV didn't need a win here to get a good narrative - They just needed a good showing (1) near the top (2) by more than one player.. They got that.

Doubt it will change the landscape at all, but this is a great ending for LIV, regardless of who wins.

Two of the most vocal PGA anti-LIV folks missed the cut, and it doesn't get much more annoying than FIGJAM and Fatrick doing very, very well...

i mean they had 18 players in an 88 man field where around a couple dozen or so aren't even factors

not having a couple near the top would've been a long shot

There will be casual golf fans that didn't really know what LIV golf was and who actually switched over. I'm sure them seeing a few of the big names a top the leader board will peak interest.

Just LOL that people actually wanted these players banned from the Masters this year. It was a fantastic week of golf.

Yeah can't call this anything but a good week for the Liv guys, even though I was happy to see Rahm beat Keopka today.

Three in the top 4, 12 made the cut. Obviously at least some of the guys on Liv can still play. Will it help the Liv tour in terms of fan interest or ratings? I doubt it.

Agree I guess but 3 in the top 4 is pretty solid.

Liv still sucks as a product and will probably not exist in 5 years. But I'd say this helped dispel the notion that the top guys on Liv were going to get worse due to lack of serious competition. They can still play. Niemann for ex was a top young talent on the PGA Tour, easy to forget all about him now that he's gone, but he's still a major talent. It's a shame he chose to play where no one watches.

3 in the top 8 (not top 4)

i agree it was a notable result for LIV. obv it goes without saying a LIV player winning would be exponentially more important to the infant league

all this said, the bigger field majors (i.e. the other 3) are going to be a better barometer of all things LIV as it relates to the sport's biggest events

an important thing to keep in mind is that LIV players for next year's Masters (and other majors too) is likely to be cut in half. the Saudi league has a limited window to make hay at the sport's biggest events

Why LIV Golf participants at 2024 Masters could be cut in half

Yeah - with the past champs LIV signed and the number of guys in the field this year they were due to have a decent showing. Will be curious to see how the PGA and US Open go as Phil is less likely (although **** that was impressive) to contend on a course he's not a wizard on. Same for Patrick, etc.

I do feel like the majors for that extra storyline this year when they are already great events - so excited for the remaining 3

Two things can be true:

1) Having the LIV guys in the field leads to better golf competition.

2) LIV golf is not a good product.

Big week for LIV with the first tournament of this season outside of the USA. Australia is starved for high level professional golf. Will be interesting to see how many people are going to attend.

I presume it will be pretty well attended - South Australians generally love their sport.
