Got a dozen Callaway chrome soft x as gift. They sound perfect for winter golf actually. Easier to compress in cold. I feel like playing a hard course with balls I got for free. Lol.

I was actually surprised my father knows nothing about golf but he actually got my a few boxes of Pro V1's as a gift. Probably the most useful gift I've had in years

I was shopping for balls yesterday and holy hell are they getting expensive.

I have a friend that's a 10 index and he swears by Wilson Zips. $20 for two dozen at Walmart. Anyone have any experience with them?

Balls are like any other piece of equipment, the only thing that matters is if they are good for you. What your friend thinks is irrelevant as far as your game is concerned. I know nothing about that ball.

I’ve heard about a possible ball and glove shortage coming. Have been told that Titleist has cut back their tour allotment from 6 dozen balls and 6 gloves per week to 4 and 4. When a company starts reducing tour allotment, I get concerned.

It could be nothing but you never know. I did make sure in the last month to have enough to probably get me through half the upcoming year.

That's pretty good. The "trash golf ball" or "golf ball you'll never hit" is the worst golf present. For years my assistant would get me a dozen golf balls for Christmas (her heart was in the right place, and I've never been a fan of staff giving boss' gifts anyway), and they're stacked in my garage, never to be hit. Given the above, I never felt it was worth saying anything.

Well since all golf balls feel the same to me and I've never noticed one to perform better than another I'll give the zips a try. Even if I hate them (highly doubt it) I'll only be out twenty bucks.

This has me seriously thinking about hoarding ProV's to use next year.

I think this sentry TOC is where I feel like these tour guys are just in such a different league. I've played that course years ago and shot a good score for me at the time (maybe like a 77 from the tips?) on a relatively calm day... but them just ripping off -4 to -8 like it's the simplest little muni down the street in tournament conditions is so unreal to me.

They keep talking about how open it is off the tee... but you still have to hit it pretty straight relatively or you're reloading off the tee a lot of the time... and it's always so windy out there. Like hole 17 is a huge fairway but it's still this huge downhill tee shot with crap both left and right... 18 too. Wish I didn't even think about that like those guys do.

I was a much worse golfer when I played it like 5 ish years ago and I agree. The wind is the greatest defense of that course. And agree, it can be tight in places. If you totally hose up an approach shot you are never finding your ball in the native grass. And even if you did you have a 0% shot of hitting it out of there.

Yup, made double, then got up on the next hole which has crap left and right, striped a drive down the middle, and made eagle from 225.

I've played with 2 pga pros this year and a bunch of mini tour guys, and the one thing that's soo consistent in their game is just how consistently they get off the tee. Obviously they do other things well too, but golf is so much easier if you're bombing it in play.

I used to love snow. Well, I probably still love snow but neither as much as I used to love it nor as much as I love golf. It's not even the golf itself that I love. It's the adventure. I can drive 10 mins to a dumpy 9 hole course and I'll never play the same 9 holes the same way again. The course itself breathes, grows, and evolves.

I still get out for a snowy hike from time to time, but I haven't been skiing in a long time. Like golf courses, ski areas seem to have personalities. Individual trails are unique to this very moment. The land and climate change as the clock ticks. We change. You'll never ski the same trail twice. You'll never be the unique person you were just a moment ago again. In fact it's been so long since I skied that literally every particle in my being has been refreshed by nature. My body itself has never been skiing. That was my old body. All that's left are memories in my brain of the sensations of skiing.

So yeah, I used to love snow.

I was just thinking today that this weekend would have been a great time to get out and do some cross country skiing. I used to love that as a kid, the local golf courses were great places to ski. A local country club even posted to Facebook this week that they were open for skiing. It's been years, think I'm going to add that to my list of things I want to do in 2022.

That said, I'm ready for golf season to resume. Not looking good for any opportunities to play in January.

Wedge gapping - would appreciate any thoughts people have

I currently have a PW from my iron set (Mizuno MP54) that is 46* and then I have Cleveland RTX-4 wedges at 50/54/58.

My stock PW carry is 125-130y
50* - 105-110y
54* - 95-100y
58* - 80-85y

Pretty decent sized gap from 50 to pw. I can do a pretty decent amount of working yardages from 45 to 110 with the 3 Cleveland wedges and using partial swings and opening the face, etc. I work a lot with my wedges at the range and short game area (I love it in fact and can hit shag bags for days). I suck at hitting partial shots with my iron set PW. Like Taking 10-20y off normally does not go well. I feel I should be able to hit partial shots but it's not as easy for me for whatever reason with an iron as it is my wedges.

Should I focus on that this spring on the range and course? Should my new set of wedges this spring be 48/54/58? Any other thoughts?

I have the same gap between PW and 50.

PW - 145
50 - 125
54 - 110
60 - 85

My 50 is next to be replaced and I am going to get a 48* and bend it to 49*. You could just do that and probably be good.

I like this idea.

Bo or anyone familiar with bending… Would 48 to 49 be the same as 50 to 49? Does it matter if you add or take loft off?
