Blue Heron Pines, East Course. One of the most fun courses I ever played....completely overgrown. They shut it down like 5 or 6 years ago because they were going to build homes on the land....now it's just an overgrown mess. I feel your pain, schu_

There is a Donald Ross design in the Pinehurst area, Southern Pines. The current course is 18 holes and there is another nine designed by Ross that has been let go. You can still see tee markers and where greens and bunkers were. Kind of crazy to drive by it.

There is also a Ross design built for some tycoon that was abandoned a few decades ago which is now I think within the borders of Fort Bragg.

My uncle has a little place in north myrtle that had three courses that are all overgrown. Heartbreaking.

The course where I won my first junior tournament went out of business a while back and is reportedly overgrown. It was always in bad shape and poorly managed so I'm not surprised. But the design was really good, it was done by Dick Wilson who did Bay Hill and Doral, so its really a shame.

no, it's not. it's the one course available to my hometown, a small, very isolated rural community of about 3,000 people. A small 9-hole course on an incredibly beautiful tree-filled plot of creek-side canyon-side land. It means a lot to a lot of people, to the town, to the schools and youth, and yes - to me - since it's where I learned to play golf and spent thousands of hours playing and practicing and even working as a greenskeeper. That place means more to me than any place on earth. I think many golfers have a home course that they love and don't realize how much it means to them until it's gone.

That's not what I meant when I said let's go get bombed on the golf course.

Heh, missed this but that's been my approach for awhile now once the thread got pretty much unreadable. If you guys still want me to separate it, I'll draw an arbitrary line starting when Brocktoon correctly predicted the ensuing derail would take over the thread.

So, if there's anything overly important after this post I can go ahead and add it later, otherwise that's where the original thread will resume.

This would be awesome. There are now two threads on the front page, so if you want to go through the new one and make a note of the posts that would belong in the other thread, I'll go ahead and move them around as need be. Thanks!

Yeah - MikkeD, as I explained separately to cwice, I don't care all that much about either the original topic or the derail, but when skimming I noticed here and there the occasional post relating to the original subject. That was a few days ago though and the thought of going back through to find them again is offensive to my default laziness.

If you can be bothered to note the post numbers then I can find them quickly, select them all at once, and move them to the other thread. Else we can just be happy that they are two different threads now and just move on from here.

I went to one of those golf simulator 18-hole places recently. Once I figured out where to hit the ball into the screen it was actually really accurate in terms of distance. I'm sure the accuracy (left and right) was way off as I tend to hook the **** out of the ball when I swing too hard, which I felt several swings worth but it said it went directly straight.

All in all, was worth the $27 an hour we paid plus it was at a BYOB cigar bar with flat screens and big fat leather couches to chill on and watch when others were playing.

Driving from NJ to FL and looking for advice/recommendations about golf in FL.

Can anyone recommend a cheap course suitable for a hacker in the Miami area? Ideally somewhere easily accessible without getting stuck in traffic and not in a **** neighborhood.

Also, what can you say about the World Golf Village? I will probably stop by there on my way back up. Any course recommendations around that area (same conditions as above)?

Also, having the course available on Golfnow is a plus.

Thanks

Its in between the 2 places you mentioned but all of the PGA Reserve courses in St Lucie are good. You might be able to hit it up on your way from St. Augustine to Miami. Something cheap but nice in the same area is Sandridge Dunes in Vero Beach.

If you could move anywhere in the United States for affordable golf all year round where would it be?

South Carolina, Georgia would be my choices. Great courses, affordable, and not over crowded. There's also a ton of good players there.

I'd imagine some places like Alabama or Mississippi have affordable golf / cost of living too

Although I didn't play it (I'm working all week), I took a little walk on the Blue Monster today. What a gorgeous looking track, facility, club house and property. I really should have stayed an extra day and played it; live and learn I guess.

Yeah I don't think affordable and year round really exists unless you can handle the hot and humid summers of the south
