this would be the "BS" in the MISC/RANDOM/BS Golf Chatter Thread...

at the range most of last evening, perfect drive straight down the middle 280ish. in my follow through, i felt something strange and when i brought it back (still honestly watching the ball) it snapped.

never seen one snap in the middle of the shaft like that. just extremely random bad luck i suppose, only had it maybe 5 or 6 weeks too.

could probably figure out a way to send it back (though i bought it off ebay fml) but seeing how i have another shaft in my old driver, and you can sway them out for probably $20, just gonna have to bite the bullet b/c seems like it'd take a couple weeks to get it back from the manufacturer.

Well on the bright side, at least it was a good drive.

If I bought a driver off Ebay and snapped a shaft like that a few weeks later I'd be pretty worried about it being a knock off.

thought definitely crossed my mind.

assuming the head gets it further out than any other driver i've ever hit, how would i know?

ebay seller was a 99.8% positive feedback with like, 50,000+ golf club and related sales..

just gonna toss the old shaft in and chalk it up to bad luck i guess...

i just messaged him saying basically what ZBT said, that a shaft snapping like that after 6 weeks of relatively light use makes me suspect that the club may be a knock off/counterfeit and included the above picture in the message.

added that i'd probably just have someone add in the old shaft, but if that person suspects that the head is a knock off that i'd have to open an ebay dispute.

can i even dispute something from late april after using it for a month?

meh. probably will hit the old shaft better anyway, i thought going mid kick/mid flex might help but stiff is probably the way to go for me..

edit to add: i'll probably have it 'fixed' before he even responds, just wanted to vent a little at him.

Perhaps it was damaged in shipment or something? That is a really strange place for a shaft to break

i know.

i've snapped one right where the head/shaft come together, and seen it happen another time.

didn't make a sound or anything, it's just like the graphite split. i could feel in my hands in the follow through that something felt weird, but was still watching the ball until i brought the club back and next thing i know i'm holding onto nothing but 2/3rds of a shaft.

i've hit it enough times and not felt anything wrong, so i doubt it was damaged in shipment. just won the reverse 1:1,000,000 lottery.

try focusing on the next 40 irons and ~30 minutes of putting after that ****. lol

Our group is thinking of venturing down towards central/southern Washington for our yearly weekend trip. Previously we have played a lot all over BC interior and one year did the Bremerton-ish area of Washington, and got on at Chambers Bay as well.

Any recommendations for central/south WA? We may stop along the way and play 1-2 courses in the same area as before, but we have already done Gold Mountain (both courses), Trophy Lake, McCormick Woods, Chambers Bay and White Horse in that area.

North Oregon is also within consideration but less likely, as that's adding on a full day of travel to the trip.

Yeah. I got there the day before the roundup started and it was a ghost town. My buddies that had been before assured me itd be unreal busy. I obviously had my doubts. Woke up the next morning and my jaw dropped.

It was unbelievable.

Can someone explain to me what makes Fred Couples so "cool"?

The media constantly says how cool he is but I don't really see it.

I heard his name so often in the '90s that, a couple years ago when I got into golf and started researching players, I was shocked to find he only had 1 major. The media loves this guy. Based on how often I used to hear his name I would have guessed he was up there neck-and-neck with Nicklaus or some ****.

Things that I can see that make him "cool":

He's a handsome guy in shape. People equate that with coolness because women usually laugh at all their jokes even if they aren't funny. Fine.

His swing is pretty damn sweet, even if it's got some chicken wing at the top and he hits the ball a long way. That's cool. I can see that.

Other than this... his personality seems really dull and he seems kind of curmudgeony. And he's not just a cryer - he's a bawler. Not exactly "cool" traits.

I don't get it. Someone please explain to me why the media says this guys is SO DAMN COOL!

ARC,

Me and my dad gripe about fc all the time. Def does not deserve to be in the HOF. hes cool i guess because he left his wife and slays a lot of random chicks?

Another reason people like him i guess is because he has a smooth swing and hits it long as opposed to tiger who hits it longer but looks as though he is trying MUCH harder.

he was best friends with jim nantz and are probably eskimo bros so JN hypes him up all the time to his "friends"
And i cant really overstate how important it is to have a real ally in a prominant role in the media.
I mean when has freddie ever played a bad round? Tiger shoots 79? Well he has no control with his driver and can't hit a draw! FC shoots 79 (like he does every major he is in "contention" for the past 15 years) well his back must have been ailing him.

He just generally has the DGAF image about him, and I mean who wouldn't love to be that guy who dgaf and shoots high sixties on the reg.

::end rant::

I used to play a ton with Fred when he lived in Dallas. I was a standard college golfer who had massive puppy love for him at the time. He was a good guy who loved sports and was a guys guy.

From about 1989-1993 he was in the top ten what felt like every single week and top 3 a ton. So success combined with that swing and his swagger just made him the cool kid. It worked back then, but now I find watching him saunter around the course like his is the top **** exhausting. He just struts around WAY too much for a 52 or whatever year old.

ship was that you or someone else who ranted about him a couple years ago saying "it's not that he thinks he's better than everyone else, it's that he knows he's better than everyone else."

Somebody had a solid rant about how arrogant he was.

Yeah I think we've discussed that Couples is a jerk on here before with ship--this first hand knowledge.

When I went to practice rounds at Masters in 2000, he was by far the rudest player I saw. Watched him on two holes and I don't think he acknowledged one fan or smiled or anything.

Salish Cliffs. Newish course, fantastic shape, many of my friends prefer it to Chambers. Nothing wrong with playing it twice, and the casino is right there

follow up on snapped club: put old shaft in for $20. contacted eBay seller and told him, got back to me and said he'd ask Cobra. told him it was $20 so I'd appreciate $20 off something in his store or a new shaft. response started, 'cobra said since you already had it reshafted the warranty is void...' and I'm thinking '****'. I mean, I don't care and didn't expect much..

sentence finished, 'so I'm sending you $20 to cover the reshafting, thanks again for your business'.

$20 already in pay pal.

greatgolfsales I think is his name, pretty solid IMO.
