Was a solid tee shot with a touch of roll. Rainy season hasn't hit Florida quite yet so a ball can actually bounce.

Yeah the North looks fun. My friend is a member so I can play it if I want. The South is having a deal to play with the guest fee at $235 for the Friday before the WGC so all the grand stands will be up and the course will be very close to tournament conditions and that includes full access for the day to the practice range minus the chipping green, so that is the reason I am doing it.

That would be a ton of fun with the stands up. Playing Tiburon Gold with them up was a ton of fun. I get to play Tiburon Black tomorrow. HEars it's more difficult that the Gold and looking at the slope of the two, it sure is.

Man I need to do some googling. The poa is coming out and the greens are getting slow and bumpy whenever they aren't recently cut and rolled. I can't ever seem to get the speed down and wonder if a different putter loft would be helpful.

poa sucks, kindly share the secret when you figure it out.

Quick question. Has anyone ever gone to a U.S. Open practice round on a Monday? I am going to be at a buddy's house who lives right near Oakmont and we are thinking about going. I will probably do it just to see the course, but if anyone has any helpful tips about how to do this I would be open to hearing them.

Just buy a ticket and go. Not sure if they will have practice round tickets available at the gate, I doubt it but I am sure someone will be scalping some. You will get to see way more on a Monday then you will on the weekend should be fun.

Okay, I'm not crazy, I knew I had read some stuff about that

Quote:
Course conditions are also a factor. "For the average guy, unless you're on perfect greens, you need some loft," two-time U.S. Senior Open champion Allen Doyle told Golf World in 2009. "Most guys probably never think to increase loft on bumpy greens, but they should." Doyle, who grew up playing on bad greens, got so accustomed to a putter with 6 degrees loft that he continued to use it even during his tour days.
Now I just need to bend something so I don't go drop $250 on a Happy putter.

Still too expensive for what it does in my mind. Why can't they just do an app that does the exact same thing for $4.99? Just select the club on your app and tap when you hit each shot and use the gps on your phone since you gotta keep the damn thing in your pocket or on your belt anyway.

The app is free but not sure what it does. Maybe you input your shots on there while you play??? I can try in for a couple holes next time I am out to see how it does.

The app you have to input, game golf unit you just tap your club against your belt. If you don't mind pulling your phone out every shot then no reason to get the unit. Zero chance I would ever use it if I had to pull my phone out every shot though.

simple - maybe weird - mathematical question:

if i'm a 10 handicapper and i play myself - insert Johnny Carson lame joke - how many strokes do i get whites vs. blacks?

i guess i need to understand handicaps and different tees......

say i'm a 10........ ratings 68 and 71. slopes 115 and 128.........

i googled it and it looks it's just the 3 stroke difference in ratings... i would have thought slopes would come into play.... EDIT: when i reread it, it sounds vaguely like there's another step i.e. basic handicapping from the same tees.

not completely sure but i thought ratings were good for lower handicap and elite golfers whereas slopes were more for recreational golfers.....\

i'm pretty sure i'm more than 3 strokes better on whites than blacks... i would be thinking 600 yards difference........

i probably need to learn basic handicap math.

thx advance any help

I have no idea how the math works, but when I plug it into the calculator at the Golf Assoc of Michigan website I get that you're a 10 from the white, 11 from the blacks. So 1 shot.

It doesn't ask for course rating, just slope.

It's definitely weird.

Booker, thx....... i came across a calculator too.......... you convert to course rating. not sure if it's formula or some schematic (like a basic table) that the USGA updates periodically.

i think with that 1 stroke opposite handicap stroke... you then net the 3 stroke course rating difference........ a bit confused as to whether that makes it 4 or 2 stroke differential.. i think 2 but not sure i've done it right..

anyway, i will do the work and post the real world numbers here.

off hand, as 10 handicap. i think i would give at least 5 strokes to the black tee me. if not much more

basically my courses are :

NOTE: A,B,C calcs are wrong, but the basic data is ok

A) 130/116, 71.2/67.9....... 10 handicap self-match======3.3 course rating diff MINUS 2 point course handicap differential.......... 1.3 strokes. or 5.3 strokes? i think it's 1.3?

B) 138/124, 71.4/67.3....... 4.1 minus 1... so 3.1 strokes.

c) 126/118, 71.4,67.0..... 4.4 minus 1......

EDIT: now that i look at it. it's all additive.......... so 5.3 strokes, 5.1 strokes, 5.4 strokes........

so that makes complete sense........... about what i'd think. maybe 6 strokes. but not much more

I really should know all the answers to those issues with handicap and course handicap but I am fairly clueless about anything besides how to figure out my handicap.

Alright lately my driver has developed a little tail/leak to the right at the end. Not really a slice as much as a weak fade. Can't figure out if the club face is open or if I'm coming over the top or both. Any suggestions?

Where is the ball starting?

Starting left is most likely over the top. Starting straight is probably over the top but might be. Starting right and going right could be either but probably not over the top if you also hit some straight pushes.

All that assumes you are set up to the ball fairly square.

ball starts out straight and then at the very end it starts to leak. I'm assuming it's a swing path issue as opposed to club face
