How windy was it? And how many holes were you into the wind?

I'd play a 2p2 Open but the logistics seem like a nightmare.

Pretty windy, majority of the holes were played into the wind. Got lucky on 7 that It was blowing right to left instead of straight at me.

I'm up for a 2+2 Open, and I nominate Bandon as the location primarily to motivate people that haven't already made the trip to play the courses.
I can only imagine the $ in play at the evening poker games in Bunker Bar.

where's Brandon?

If anything, we can make a mini-tour. Cover 4 corners--whoever can make, makes it.
I suggest something like:
South Gathering (Texas?)
West gathering (Arizona?)
East gathering (South Carolina?)
North Gathering (Toronto?)

Everyone try to make it out to as many as possible.

Just a thought.

Should probably get a roll call of who would be interested and where is everyone located. I'm in Massachusetts.

Toronto

and yea, I was just making up the locations. (though I think Arizona has to be a top contender - The Arizona golfing thread is very active, plus, it's very close to LV and I hear the golf is great there, plus they have a lot of shooting ranges ).

Wouldn't be the fairest for high handicappers, but I think it would be cool to put a group or two together to try to qualify for the inaugural US Am Four-Ball in 2015. It's being played at Olympic Club.

I can make that. Love those courses. Fishy game with the drunk golfers. I'm an average poker player and I was stacking guys L/R.

How about Hoylake? About 45 miles from my house. Should be ok to get a tee time if we play in August.

I'd go to Bandon and/or participate in the Toronto open

Just did some quick research on Bandon, and it looks good. I'd also be in for that, pending the date.

http://www.bandondunesgolf.com/

http://www.bandondunesgolf.com/food-...the-bunker-bar

It'd be $250 for 18 holes per day or $375 for 36 holes per day.
$80 for caddies per round (optional).
Lodging would be about $300-$500/night, per person.

Located in a nice beach town.

To those who have experience playing/staying here, is the above correct? and what else is there to consider?

Clearly as nice as that is, it's probably easier to get people to go somewhere more affordable where they could play 5 rounds for that price.

Although I'd be in for that.

Incredible. I wish I lived near a few 2+2ers who golfed, tough to find anyone to go with during the week.

I'm banking on another (newish - high capper) to join.

Speaking of handicaps, I'm pretty sure the app I have (that calculates this) is inaccurate. It says I'm an 11.3, and I feel I'm more in the 15-18 category (but I could be wrong, and I do typically play some harder courses - but I really don't know)

I use Diablo Golf. No idea how to calculate handicap, so I'll assume it's correct.

So while watching the US open today it hit me that I stand too close to the ball, which has my hands to close to my body at address. Went out and played 9 after work and stood a tad further from the ball and put my hands further away from my body and I have to say the difference was stunning. I literally was unable to draw the ball (and most of the time played a slight fade to a big slice with longer clubs) a week ago because my address position was causing an over the top move, but today after that one simple change I hit most of my shots either straight or with a slight draw. Excited to get back out there tomorrow and play a full 18.

note: top right it says "Handicap index = 11.4" - I just don't see how that is possible.

Your index isnt your handicap. Your index is used to compute your handicap at all the different courses. Indexes are lower than the actual handicap

The handicap system in North America is more a reflection of your potential as a golfer than your average score. When you factor in ESC, slope, average of 10 best of last 20 rounds; it definitely starts to reflect the former.

Anecdotally, last year I got down to a 6.5 index in the middle of the summer and I think I only broke 80 once through the stretch. Most of my rounds were right in the 82-84 range.

Last edited by Spottswoode; 06-13-2014 at 11:09 PM. Reason: As break said, it was a 6.5 index

So, how can I calculate my hc with the above information?
