you have a couple options itp, but none of them seem really feasable if you're not looking to spend 25k+ up front and 1k/month or so in dues.

as others have said there are some awesome courses up in alpharetta/john's creek that have super low initiations or deferred notes right now.

I live in buckhead and make the trek up 4-5 days a week, just have to avoid the traffic times.

I work 8-6 so unfortunately the trek means I could only ever play on weekends as even going to the range would be 1.5 hrs of driving roundtrip. I did come to the same conclusion about not really having any good options at all though.

I'd heard they were opening up from being an all Jewish club. That's a sweet deal for that place.

Yeah I'll be one of the few without the last name Schwartz or Goldstein for the time being haha. Course is awesome though

Had an interesting situation come up today that I would like peoples' thoughts on. It might be in the rules of golf somewhere but yeah.

So on a fairly long par 3 I rip a 5 iron long and left. Have a line on it but am not entirely sure on what's over there. Provisional off the tee is hacked into a ditch maybe like 50 yards off the tee. In the interests of saving time, I dropped the provisional and played 5 from there on to the green. I then went over left to where I thought my original tee shot was and found it, next to a pond on some bare mud. Hit a real nice shot and then 2 putted for a 4.

Is what I did ok? If I had gone to look for my original tee shot after I hit my provisional, it would have been a 100 yard walk there and back had I not found it. This was not a competitive round either, and not played for money.

Personally, I see nothing different from what I did there to like taking a putt out of turn if your playing partner isn't ready. All about saving time and not having the group behind get up our ass.

My interpretation of the rule is you're good to go. Bolded seems pretty straight forward.

Quote:
27-2. Provisional Ball
a. Procedure
If a ball may be lost outside a water hazard or may be out of bounds, to save time the player may play another ball provisionally in accordance with Rule 27-1. The player must inform his opponent in match play or his marker or a fellow-competitor in stroke play that he intends to play a provisional ball, and he must play it before he or his partner goes forward to search for the original ball.

If he fails to do so and plays another ball, that ball is not a provisional ball and becomes the ball in playunder penalty of stroke and distance (Rule 27-1); the original ball is lost.

(Order of play from teeing ground – see Rule 10-3)

Note: If a provisional ball played under Rule 27-2a might be lost outside a water hazard or out of bounds, the player may play another provisional ball. If another provisional ball is played, it bears the same relationship to the previous provisional ball as the first provisional ball bears to the original ball.

b. When Provisional Ball Becomes Ball in Play
The player may play a provisional ball until he reaches the place where the original ball is likely to be. If he makes a stroke with the provisional ball from the place where the original ball is likely to be or from a point nearer the hole than that place, the original ball is lost and the provisional ball becomes the ball in playunder penalty of stroke and distance (Rule 27-1).

If the original ball is lost outside a water hazard or is out of bounds, the provisional ball becomes the ball in play, under penalty of stroke and distance (Rule 27-1).

Exception: If it is known or virtually certain that the original ball, that has not been found, has been moved by an outside agency (Rule 18-1), or is in an obstruction (Rule 24-3) or an abnormal ground condition (Rule 25-1c), the player may proceed under the applicable Rule.

Random side note about clubs and food minimums- yes it is an added cost but you get food in exchange for that money and it is often pretty good, so don't add the food minimum and view that as the cost of the membership to play golf. My food minimum equals one family dinner at the club/month and the kids love it as the staff know them and treat them awesome.

36 hole leader in the euro event was (T2 now) former Illinois golfer and euro tour rookie Thomas Pieters.

I watched him play in the 2012 US amateur at Cherry Hills and he beat Jordan Spieth in the round of 64. Pieters lost in the next round (to Canuck Albin Choi) but I saw him make a hole in one, his first ever. I had an awesome view as I was directly behind the pin.

I'm thinking I may play wearing pants instead of shorts this year. What is a light weight pant that is comfortable and not that hot? At this point I'm just trying to be best dressed.

I always wear pants, keeps the sun off. Men look a bit foolish in shorts in my opinion.

I always want to wear white pants like these guys do but my 26 handicap won't allow me to finish the round with the pants still looking clean as ****. But if I was good at golf I'd dress really well.

In the "had to be there" department, I saw the craziest thing this weekend. Random old guy I'm playing with tees it up way high, and while teeing off on 15 the ball falls off the tee while he is 3/4 through his down swing, but he hits it before it hits the ground. Coolest thing was he hit his best drive of the day, straight down the middle. Haven't seen anything like it.

Looks like she dropped about 5-10 pounds. I kept waiting for a good look at DAT ASS but Jason never showed us. Wait, what?

I love how it looks like it took her 90 minutes to get ready and he spent 3 minutes then the other 87 asking her to hurry up she looks great.

Sends out wedding invitations during the weekend and breaks up a few days later.

A bit of a sudden "OMG, WTF am I doing!?" reaction triggered on his way out of the post office there I guess.
