I played with a guy last year who was pretty close to midget status; he was lucky if he was 4 and a 1/2 feet tall. He carried his bags too, which made me want go to "awwww" and pat his little head. He had the most god awful swing I have ever seen. He actually followed the clubhead in the back swing such that he ended up looking up to the sky behind him and then transitioning into the ball from there. However, he was pretty good. He had this nice little low draw and hit the ball really solidly. It was his first round of the year and I think he broke 80 with that god awful move.

Not sure, as they left after 12 holes. He was probably taking 7-10 strokes per hole, though. Would have been awesome if he had game like tzwien's buddy and schooled us all. Have definitely had that happen with some interesting characters.

My friend has to do that move in order to make a full turn. I don't think it looks that bad, though. Swing is still on plane and it gets the job done.

My friend carries his bad, too. I don't think he has ever been to Canada however lol.

What do you do on elevated tees? Tee it lower? Swing easier?

They look so fun but if I have any kind of hook or slice off an elevated tee it's going to end up in some trouble obviously. Tips? Other than "hit it straight" lol

I played a hole that looked almost exactly like that one linked earlier and the headwind was pretty intense. It was probably gusting like 15-20mph. I took out my 3 hybrid on a 170yd hole that was 200 feet below me and barely got it onto the front of the green!

I bias my club selection and target towards safety/bailout zones whenever it's windy or there's a severe elevation change that adds extra guesswork to making a shot. If it's very windy and it's severely downhill then I'm extra special careful not to select a club or aim at a point where a wrong guess will leave me in trouble. I never want to hit a good shot and leave myself screwed because I misjudged wind or elevation.

Shipped our Club Championship.

73, 76, 77. Played **** the last round, but could have been way more than 77 if I didn't have a bit of luck on 2 holes.

So I've decided to get fitted for clubs. I figure if I have my own racket for Table Tennis and my own bowling balls I should have my custom golf clubs.

So should I have a fitter modify my current, off-the-rack clubs, or sell them for as much as I can and buy new fitted clubs?

My swing:

Sorry about the lighting, took it with my phone at the range the other day. Unfortunately I don't have the front on view. Too me it looks like I'm releasing the club a little early. I'd like to get some better shots from both angles.

Do you snap hook it a lot and push it when you aren't on your A-Game?

No, my misses are much more subtle than that generally. I have a very strong grip, but I've used that for a long time. Sometimes I get too steep on my swing and this will lead to some pulled shots, but I've been working on flattening out my swing this year and that has helped. I lost a few right last time I was out, but it felt like it was mostly a timing issue. I've struggled a bit with finding a consistent tempo.

I have had an interesting new shot creep into my game. Let's just say I'm not a fan of the 45 degrees off target weak ass block to the right. I hit one into a pond two holes over yesterday. WTF.

Friend and I actually got paired with a regular person today! Of course he aces the third hole and hits the flagstick with his teeshot on 13. Yay free beer!

Am meeting up with 2+2er bjohnson tomorrow for a round in Houston. He's a 5 I'm a 28, hopefully he doesn't ask me if he can "play through" by the third hole

Play fast and be cheerful and he almost certainly won't care how bad you are. If you play fast and he's annoyed at your hacker ways then he's the problem not you.

There's nothing in this world more agonizing than a slow, grumpy terrible player though.

Thanks. 43 participants.

I won by 2 shots. Lead by 7 before the last round and 4 shots after 16, then I started hitting like ****. Couldn't really handle the pressure it seems. On seventeenth I made par and my opponent made a birdie. At 18th I hit my iron three straight into the woods and I could hear the ball hitting a couple of trees. My opponent hit his drive ~250 metres. We started searching for mine and just when we were about to give up I found it close to a tree. I played it out and onto the green and made a two putt for bogey. My opponent made a par and therefore I secured the victory. Was a close one though. Made only one birdie the last round, when I am usually doing at least 3.

Don't have any online scorecard unfortunately.

What a relief to know that, since I'm a fast, grumpy, terrible player. And I can usually keep the grumpiness in check when I'm playing with someone else.

Also, I'm loving my new job teaching high school. Get out at 2:20 (sometimes earlier if I have a free period last), go play golf after work.

Apparently one of you pissed him off so he got wasted and started his own golf thread elsewhere. Nice job dicks*.

I've been thinking of going to get my clubs fitted, I've never done this before so any advice would be helpful!

Just browsing google for local places that do club fitting and cpl of them seem to have deals with just one or 2 specific golf brands, stuff like "Taylormade and Ping drivers will be available for trial during this session" I don't wanna go to a fitting where I feel like the guy is trying to push a particular brand or be a salesman instead instead of getting what's right for me, is this standard at most places or should I look around a bit more for a fitting?

This is a great thing to admit and you'll be better for it next time. Keep putting yourself in pressure situations as often as you can and you'll start dealing with it better with time.

I used to hate how panicky I always felt in section events (lol pressure in section events). I was a scratch to +2 and I'd go out there and routinely choke my way to putting up 80s-84s, and that's with putting lights out. I always putted well.

But anyway, great job shipping the club championship! Do you have anything else coming up?

That's ridic. Usually putting is the first thing to go for me, followed by < 100 yd shots.
