The key to scrambles is just making putts. If you have 4 guys who are all average putters, you will have a very good chance at shooting 12 under or better.

I do if the course is legit, but then of course you could just cheat and I won't know

seriously though I do not think you could do this. I have scrambled 4 balls before playing alone on an empty course (I'm a 10 hdcp) and I made way more pars than I expected sadly. You also get really tired

BTW, just so you know, I didn't forget about the $100 I generously donated to you.

Have my fingers crossed to atleast have on 59 this year.

Tried to find you at the WSOP. I had dinner with Ballz and he said you were playing in the same game as him. Had a short trip tho so couldn't get to the Bellagio to pay ya.

Long story short, I didn't forget and still have hope.

With a scorer or just you alone? Over, with a scorer.

I'm about a 5 hdcp and I would take the over on myself too.

I think this line is pretty close. I'd put $100 on it against a free year membership to DC + DC hoodie ? Not sure if that is fair or not. But I'd rather keep it fun and a smallish bet.

We can have someone else in the golf forum follow me to keep score. But Im in Florida so my only request is we wait till late Sept or October because the heat and fatigue will just kill me if we do it sooner. Oct will be super busy for me (CPA exam on 10/15 and getting married on 11/4), but Im pretty sure I can get out and play a round.

I'd keep all my scores in OOB and if for some reason my handicap drops below 12 you have the option to void the bet. If it goes up I dont have the option to void the bet. But I'll probably only play 2 or maybe 3 rounds before then.

Sound good?

BTW I made my comment based on a course length of ~6800 (+-200). That is what I have seen most little bar league scrambles played on.

Oh and you would have to aprove of the course I select.

For those requesting a scorer. I have too much of a conscience to cheat. I wouldnt make a bet big enough that would entice me to cheat. But if everyone wants a scorer and it doesnt cost me any money to facilitate that I have no problem. This also gives me someone to talk to while riding in the cart.

We may need to go over some rules that Im not sure about for a scramble.

Like: It is lift clean and place for every shot (including bunkers) in a true scramble correct? Or are you supposed to mark where you are hitting from and take a drop (except on the green)?

I think that is the only one I've always been curious about.

Scrambles are all place-your-ball as long as you maintain the condition of the lie (i.e. if you are in a bunker, you can't place out of the bunker even if it's w/i the proper distance, which is usually a scorecard-length for scrambles).

K that is what I've always thought.

The other rule no one follows (except me). Is 1st ball in the hole counts. So if you have a 15' birdie put the 1st put misses by 2" and the guy walks up and taps it in you get a par the other 3 guys dont get to try the birdie put.

But no one ever follows that rule.

Normally you get either get a scorecard length or club length, keeping it in the same lie (you can't take it out of the rough, etc). And you get to place it. Then on the greens you get a score card length or putter head length. All no closer to the hole.

At 6800 yards I would take over -13.5 for a 15 handicap every day of the week. I think the real line for a 15 is something like -4.

And fwiw, most beer league/charity/BS scrambles play a lot closer to 6000-6300 than 6800.

I was really thinking like 6400ish (not 6800) but I figured that would make it look like I was trying to back down from my bet.

Most around here play from the white tees (6000-6400) but I just figured that would look really pussy on my part after the comment so I figured we could agree on the blues.

Im just pissed I could have got similar action if the line was -10.5

Well crap.

I'll live up to it because I think it will be interesting.

But Im pretty sure a better line would be -8.5 for me from 6600-6800 yards. Probably -10.5 from 6200-6400.

Im horrible at setting lines.

You could play it if you were sandwiched in between two foursomes on a weekend. Other than that playing 4 balls would take me forever. (Mostly because my shots spray EVERYWHERE and I'm definitely picking them all up.)

I do too, but I would lose way too many balls going for impossible shots after my first safe shot is in play where I want it.

I would just search on the club company's websites for certified retailers and go from there. Probably choose somewhere that has outdoor mats and a trackman or the Ping nFlight or something similar.

Funny headline on yahoo sports right now: Holmes to have minor brain surgery. Not quite in the class of Dizzy Dean, "Brain scan shows nothing," but still pretty good. You get the idea that surgery on the brain could be minor and the possibility that it is the brain that is minor. Anyway, hope it goes well.

That might be the dumbest headline I've seen in years. It's almost like fixing this problem in his brain is nothing more complicated than lancing a zit on his ass.

Going to try to join some group this weekend. I rarely do this, any tips or advice on best ways? Should I just call ahead and ask them to squeeze me in with a three some on the tee sheet?
